I am using at work a wifi connection that requires fixed ip and specific proxy.
When i go home, i am using another wifi network, so every day i have to change the advanced network settings of my mac.
Is there any way to attribute different advanced settings for each network and save it, so it will be changed automatically?

MacBook :: Volume Icon Grayed Out On Lion?
May 16, 2012I was listening to my itunes through headphones today, and right after I took the headphones out, my volume icon and slider are grayed out and unresponsive, and my volume buttons bring up the volume square-thing with a white "no" circle under the volume level. I've restarted my computer multiple times, blown out the headphone input with compressed air, verified my disk through disk utility and it said everything is fine, yet the problem persists.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Canon LBP6000 Print Driver - No Printer Appears In The 'add Printer' Section?
Apr 1, 2012I was having problems printing from my Canon LBP6000. Print jobs remained held in the queue. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Mac CAPT Ve r340 driver from Canon's website, no improvement. The printer works fine with my Windows laptop. I found an option to remove all printers from the Print preferences section. I can't remember how I did this, but all printers were removed. I reinstalled the above driver, but now in the 'print & scan' - 'add printer' section, I have no printer options. And no idea how to get printer options.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: HP CM1312nfi Printer - Scan Not Working & Printer Pausing?
Jun 16, 2012I have an iMac 27" (intel 3.4 GHz, Intel core i7, and 16 GB memroy) purchased a few months ago. It is running the latest version of Lion 10.7.4 I run this computer on our network along with a iMac 24" 3.5years old and a Macbook Pro 2.5year old.Â
This computer seems to have a beef with the Hewlett-Packard printer (HP colour laser jet CM1312nfi MFP) which I have had for about 3 years. I can not get the new computer to work with the printer properly. It allows printing but it pauses all the time when you resume the print it starts printing from the begining of the document againIt will pause any prints sent to it across the network after the first 1 or 2 pages are printedIt won't allow scanning at allWhen you launch the scanner it takes forever to connect (3 - 4 mins)If you try to scan using any of the scan options (if it loads the devise) it then states it can not connect to the device, or all the scan buttons apear but greyed out.This is odd as it will still allow printing??Â
Also, all the other PC's have the same version of Lion 10.7.4 and have the latest HP Driver installed (these were released on the 14 Dec 2011). Other useful infoThe scanner is hard wired to the 27" machineYou can only use the printer if one scanner is hard wired as it does not have wirless capacity.I have uninstalled and installed the software more times than i can count trying all different trouble shooting etcI can only conclued that there is somthing the 27" machine is doing to prevent the scnanner registering properlyNone of the other computers can use the scanner correctly either. As you can only scan a page at a time using the "Scan" button. If I wish to scan multiple pages on with either of the other computers I need to use the "scan to folder" button.Â

Jun 23, 2014I am backing up my data from my mac book pro for a second time. I plug in my external, and it says it doesn't have enough memory to back up my computer. I have 1 TB hard drive and used about 650 MB for the first back-up. Obviously I don't have enough to back up everything for a second time. I just want to back up the new stuff. When I go to exclude the current external from the new back up, it's grayed out. Do I have to delete the contents of the hard drive and re-back up the entire computer?

Nov 28, 2010I am trying to sort my files by date and type. I can sort by Modified Date and File Type. Every time I sort by file type, the files are listed alphabetically within their folder type lists. This is not what I want. I want to see all the .rar files in chronological order
As I recall from Windows, I can sort by Modified Date, then Type, and the files will be listed by type, and then secondarily sorted by Date. Is there a way to do this on the Mac?

Jan 7, 2011Am trying to use Mail (version 3.6 on OS 10.5.8) and when I view a message would like to be able the 'To' and 'Cc' fields without having to use Long Headers or Raw Source options (which I found under the View - Message menu). These give far too much unnecessary information, but I need to be able to easily see who else the message has been sent to. This seems really basic for an email program and I suspect it is really obvious, but I've looked everywhere and on the web with no answers!

Basically, I am a pastor in a church, and I have many things in my calendar.
It is all working for me at the moment, but I would like to massively expand what I do in my calendar and to-dos.
Basically, I want to have an extra calendar item that lists all the sermons and sermon series that have been planned for the year (which I wouldn't want to display them in my normal listing of calendars, as its not as if they are booking me in anymore than normal). I would love then to be able to add to-do items/tasks to calendar events so that each calendar event can act like a bit of a project (so if I am organising a service one week, it would be great to have that service in my calendar, and then have a list of linked to-do's to it).
Does anyone know of anything like this? I hope I have explained myself properly.
I have looked at a lot of the GTD apps, but unfortunately they don't have calendar systems attached (i.e. they only seem to be to-do systems).
OS X :: App For Advanced Mouse Preferences?
Jun 22, 2009I've been getting of my oversensitive Mighty Mouse.. the side buttons are way too easy to click so I find my windows constantly rearranging for Expose when I'm doing anything from dragging an icon to scrolling.
Is there an app that can change the preferences for mouse behaviors, such as needing to DOUBLE click the side buttons to activate its function?

OS X :: Cannot Access Fields In Disk Utility When Trying To Partition
Apr 13, 2010First off I am new to Mac's and I am trying to repartition my harddrive. i did it once before and was successful and when i tried to adjust the size, windows kept getting errors.
On the advice of my friend he told me to completely wipe out my machine and reinstall Mac OS 10.4. I have since reinstalled SL 10.4 and downloaded bootcamp. However, I do not see a boot icon in my applications or utilities folder, but I do see a disk utilities icon.
When I click that and click the only hard drive that is there and try and partition it, the slide bar will not work for me to divide the hard drive into the size i want and none of the fields or dropdown boxes will work.
MacBook Air :: Cannot Click Links Or Fields In Safari
Apr 20, 2012Just purchased a new MacBook Air for my wife. While it is a huge step-up from the previous macbook, we've run into a very frustrating problem. Every now and then Safari will no longer accept any click on links or the ability to enter data into fields. You tap and click and it's like a brick wall--no response. We've tried forcing a refresh of that page, still won't work. If I quit Safari and then go back to the page, it's works. But unless I quit the app, it just remains an unclickable webpage.Â
Any thoughts?? I've never encountered this before and it is hard to duplicate as it is not consistent with specific sites or work flow.

When I start the playlist, the first song will play fine but if I don't have the window active it won't advance to the next one. It'll just sit there loading. I plan to make an update to my site and I would like to know if there is any mac ftp program which supports several ftp functions like the ones described below:
- Rename all files of the remote hosting server, at once (like _old_site_files_filename). Also exclude the renaming of existing folders.
- Add files to folders that already exist, without overwriting/replacing folders themselves, but just adding the new files inside folders. Keep existing folders without replacing them. Some folders have special permissions attached to them, so it would be a mess to replace them because then I would have to set all permissions from the beginning...
I hope there is a solution for these tasks in a mac os x ftp application.
ITunes :: Advanced Library Organization?
Jun 16, 2012I have the 2nd gen macbook air with a 256gb ssd, and I am down to my last 20gbs. I've also got an external hd. I moved my entire itunes library on the external hd, but I didn't like not having the capability to acces my content when I didn't have the hd in possesion. So I moved everything back.  Is there anyway to move certain items into the hd while retaining other items on my mac and still maintaining a unified syncing from both sources via iTunes?    Â
As an example:Â Let's say I've got all 3 Toy Story movies. I always want Toy Story 1 to be on my mac no matter what. But soon I will not have space for future content, so I have decided to move Toy Story 2 & 3 onto the external hd.So is there a way to move Toy Story 2 & 3 onto the hd and still have them be considered as a part of my itunes library - so that when I sync my iPad, the items that are on the external hd will only be available to sync when I plug the drive in?Â
If so, this is going to save me tons of time, without having to manually drag and drop each movie file from my external hd onto my itunes library whenever I want to sync them. I'd rather iTunes just be smart enough to figure out that theres a movie on my mac that I want to sync to my iPad, as well as several others that are stored on the exteranl hd.Â

Oct 27, 2010I want to upgrade one of the two 500GB HDD I currently have in my MBP 5,3 with a 1TB one. Given that I had good experience with WD, I am looking at their offerings. While their standard WD10TEVT is hardly available around here and if it's much more expensive (for what ever reason), I am interested in the WD10TPVT. Now that HDD has the new Advanced Formatting with 4k sectors which seems to be only a problem for WinXP. But could any Mac user share its experience with that HDD? Is it gonna work the same with Time Machine, backups, file transfer between disks or can issues occur when files are exchanged/transferred between disks with different sector sizes? Only want to upgrade one of my HDDs for now, so is there any preferable setup (in terms of which HDD to have the OS and which the files)?

Apr 24, 2010I bought a new Hard Drive today.
It's a 1.5TB Western Digital GreenPower WD15EARS with "Advanced Format" and a huge, 64mb Cache. I wasn't intending to get anything special, just more space.
Apparently "Advanced Format" means the drive sectors are 4kb instead of the usual 512b.
This has apparently been in the works for some time but is just now being phased in.
OSX back to Tiger (10.4) supports Advanced Format drives with no issues.
The big hold up has been Windows 5 (XP) and earlier. Using one of these drives with XP could cause a real slowdown unless special precautions are taken.
The drive installed and formatted normally under Snow Leopard. According to AJA System Test, the 5400rpm GP drive is indeed slower than my WD Blacks (duh!) and a 7200rpm Hitachi. I have yet to compare it to one of my external "regular" GreenPower drives by mounting one internally.
