I just purchased the Lacie 1TB hard drive. I've plugged in the power wire and the 800 fire wire. The setup assistant is supposed to appear on my desktop, but it doesn't. Do I have to plug in all the wires that came with the HD?

Since I tried to install Leopard and uninstalled it again as it has to many bugs (at least with my configuration) my external LaCie 500 Gb USB drive for back-up doesn't show on the desktop anymore. In disk repair the drive appears and repair shows "no problems". On an other internal disk I still have Leopard installed, and if I boot my G5 under Leopard the disk is visible and works fine.

Odd stufff, I have a 500 gig Lacie ext HD that my user uses on her Vista machine...
I am setting up a replacement for the Vi$ta machine, which is a 24 inch imac.
I plugged in the ext HD and nothing happened after I powered on the ext HD.
I checked disk utility and it showed up but as a 2TB size ext HD...
I unplugged the Lacie and plugged it back in and all the info showed up correctly.
But ALL the buttons under "First Aid" are greyed out so I cant verify permissions, disk, or repair disk or permissions.

I have a Lacie Rugged 80GB with Firewire 400/800 and USB 2.0. I was using it just fine last night to back up my 12 PB. Then I yanked out the Firewire cord without ejecting it. Now, this morning it takes like 20min to mount. Then it says Read only, Time machine cannot write to this drive. I have tryed two different computers, all three interfaces and different cords. Now, It will not mount at all, no matter how long I let it sit. I hear the hard drive spinning, but will not mount and I can't see it in Disk Utility either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst, the drive kept triggering a "your external device may have been disconnected improperly" message. That despite repeated erasing of the disc and restarting of the set up a Time Machine backup usinig this 500GB USB2 drive with its own power supply. Finally, I placed the drive on its fronot panel and it stopped disconnecting. Then, it started the backup. It is now 9:30 in the morning. I started this backup at 9:30 last night. so far it has managed to accomplish 23.79 GB of a 64.45 GB back up.

I just bought a LaCie 3TB external. When i turn my computer on and I'm at the login screen my trackpad and keyboard are frozen. When I unplug the LaCie (i know really bad) my mouse and keyboard start working again. Is the LaCie trying to work as my primary drive? Is that why it freezes my mouse and keyboard? How do I work around this (besides unplugging it from the computer)??

Has anyone successfully connected multiple 3TB LaCie d2 Quadra drives using daily chained Firewire 800 to a 2011-model 27" iMac? Has anyone else had process lockups when connecting multiple 3TB LaCie d2 Quadra drives using daisy chained Firewire 800? How was this problem resolved?New 27" iMac (2,7GHz i5, 2TB internal disk, 8GB RAM, OS Lion 10.7.3)). I connected two LaCie 3TB d2 Quadra external drives, daisy chained to a single Firewire 800 port. (Yes, I performed LaCie's software update to the d2 Quadras.) The finder locks up every day or two; Aperture locks up every few days. the iMac sometimes doesn't go to sleep as specified in the power saver settings. Emptying a few GB from the trash can take DAYS. Copying a 60 GB Aperture library within the internal hard drive can take many hours. Forcing a Quit of Finder or Aperture doesn't allow them to be correctly restarted. The iMac will not shut down from the menu. It must be powered off by holding power button for 6-10 seconds. VMWare Fusion 4 and MS Office 2010 are the only non-Apple software on this computer.

Sometimes my external HD doesn't appear on my desktop (connected with Firewire).It spins up, and all I generally have to do is turn it off and turn it back on again for it to appear.But obviously I wish it would just work the first time.Using 10.6.1 on a Mac Pro, external drive is OWC Mercury.

I am using a Belkin DVI to HDMI cable. My problem is that when i hook up the TV it cuts off part of the desktop image (mainly the menu bar since i put my dock on the side). Is there any way to fix this? Such as how can you adjust screen position on a tv maybe? (and yes i tried the displays preference pain but i couldn't get the desired results).

I have an aluminum macbook (April 2009) and when I use a picture as a desk top image, even HD resolution pics it never quite fits well as wallpaper. I have tried all options (stretch, full screen, etc).
When I had windows pics would always fit nicely. With my mac its either too stretched and just doesn't fit well
Anyone else have this issue? Am I missing something?
I just got a new flash drive and it worked fine on my iMac yesterday, and now suddenly it no longer appears on the Desktop or anywhere else on the computer that I can find. But when I pulled it out of the USB drive, it said the device was not removed properly, so it must have recognized something was connected.

I'm trying to connect to a small (10) local network of imacs all running Mavericks 10.9.3. I'm using Remote Desktop over Bonjour and also trying to share an iTunes library using Home sharing. None of the computers will respond. I get an error (-3170) on the target computers for the home sharing and RD tells me they're all sleeping when I can see perfectly well that they are awake and logged in. They all have RD client 3.7.1 installed but the response I get from RD when I try to wake them is 'this is not supported on these computers'.Â
This system worked wonderfully well under 10.6.8 and now it's completely screwed with Mavericks. as all the computers respond readily via the 'Go/connect to server/browse/connect method'. They are obviously all connected it's just this new OS just doesn't work.

After correct behaviour during 2 years Garmin Colorado only appears for a short time on the desktop from a MacPro with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and disappears. Announcing an error: not correct disconnected. act is that the power of the colorado batteries had crashed down, and I didn't realize this in time. Additional Information: the Connect-picture on the Garmin-display stays permanently even when shutting down the MacPro. Correct disconnecting of the Garmin then is impossible. Further use of the Garmin requires disconnecting from the computer, causing new error. Questions: May be possible such behaviour has disrupted the USB-driver or some else software in the OSX or whatever, and what can be the source of the error? On WIN2000Pro same bahaviour: no connect.

When I pick up my pop email (thru apple mail) on my iPhone, it doesn't appear in Apple Mail on my desktop. I don't delete it and have to rules or prefs that tell Mail to delete it or remove it from the server.
When I use Thunderbird on my desktop, that doesn't happen. In other words, I open Apple Mail on my phone and read my email. Then later I open Thunderbird on my desktop and the mail is still there. Open Apple Mail on my desktop, the mail is gone.
Just because I read an email on my phone, doesn't mean I don't want it in a folder on my desktop.
I love my MacBook Pro -it's used all the time in schools, without hassle.
However, when I try to connect to a Sony VPL ES1 data projector, the screen resizes (normal and OK) but the data projector shows a completely different desktop image and I can't see a cursor.
Presume this is a bug, but is there a work-around I'm missing?
One wired thing I realize when using Leopard is that whenever I mount or connect a drive, it does not show up on the desktop. But in facts that the drive is connected and only shows at the side bar under the Shared panel.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an annoying problem with application switching since I have upgraded to Mac OS Lion from Snow Leopard.Now switching between applications doesn't work as good as it was in Snow Leopard.
Right now I have Finder and Xcode opened. Xcode is assigned to only one specific Desktop and Finder is assigned to None. And when I am in Xcode for example and use Cmd-Tab to switch to Finder, it deactivates my current window, but doesn't move to the space with Finder or makes Finder active. Then, I press Cmd-Tab again, and it makes Finder active (My top panel controls show Finder now) but I still stay in the space with Xcode. And further switching doesn't do anything. So I then need to manually to click on the Finder icon in the Dock. And the same is vice versa when switching from Finder to Xcode.Â
If I switch by clicking the Finder Dock icon it then works in two steps: first time it deactivates current window, and after second click it moves to Finder Desktop and makes Finder active.Â
Another issue is with Safari when I am in Fullscreen mode and have also Activity window opened. If I am in Finder and switch with Cmd-Tab to Safari, it just shows me the Activity window in the same Desktop no matter how many times I Cmd-Tab. To switch to Main Safari window I need to click on the Dock icon.If I switch only by clicking the Dock icon, then I again need to click it twice.Â
Option for moving to space with selected application in Preference Pane is switched on and Automatically rearrangement of last used applications as well.Â

I have a number of folders on my desktop that contain movie files, jpeg files, you name it. When I try to import from the desktop, the import media window only shows the files and not the folders they are in! I have included a screen shot of what my window looks like when I select the desktop to import media. Again, I have a number of folders that don't show up, only the files in them. This is maddening when trying to import files! I know i can move the files to my hard drive but i am used to desktop work flow.

Upon launch, it opens in the assigned desktop, but if I'm on another desktop at the time I launch it, the blank spreadsheet opens on that desktop and not the one assigned to Excel. I know it launches on the assigned desktop because it switches to that desktop momentarily, but then switches back to my current desktop to open the blank spreadsheet.Â
If I open an excel spreadsheet while on the Excel desktop, it opens there and stays there, but if I click on the Excel icon in the dock to open a new spreadsheet while on another desktop, the spreadsheet opens on that desktop and not on the desktop assigned to Excel.Â
Most of the apps I've assigned to desktops in Mission Control work fine, but Excel and Word don't follow the rules.

I've noticed over the last few days that whatever i save, (word doc, iphoto, e-mail, iweb, final draft scripts) or create a new folder... it doesn't show on the desktop unitl i either restart the machine or log out and then log back in... and then all the files that haven't been appeared at the time show up.Any ideas on how to stop this without giving my machine a clean instal?
