I don't speak or read Portuguese, and I have never done anything that I'm aware of that would cause anything in my system to be in Portuguese.And yet--here's a sample from my current list of Service Preferences.

My Snow Leopard Services menu items (or at least most of them) are now listed in Portuguese! I have no idea why this has happened or how to switch back to English.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use my Mac for business for years, and until now, I've kept a Windows box to print out mailing labels.I finally got off my butt and got my contacts moved over into address book so I could just use one computer.However, when I went to print a test sheet of labels, I saw that there was no option to print the the Position of my contacts on the label...which I need to do for business.I'd prefer not having to put the "Position" into another field to get it to print, because I like to keep things organized.I'm not afraid of jumping into the Terminal if that's what it takes to get this feature added to my copy.I just need to be able to do it somehow.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to install some services that I created using applescripts and ThisService. The problem I'm having is that Services is not available in the menu when I right click on a folder or file. Looking under Keyboard in the system preferences, I can see all of the different services that are availible. I have the ones I'd like to use checked but no services appear in the menu when I right click. I've tried resetting defaults in the preferences, logging in and out, restarting and nothing helps. I found another post that said open terminal and run this /System/Library/CoreServices/pbs. When I enter that in the terminal, I get this message "No languages specified - assuming English" and nothing changes. I'm running 10.6.8 and I know that Services used to be avalible in the menu.

I've figured out this has to do with the services menu.. located under keyboard -->services in the left-hand sidebar. My question is how do apps put services in that menu.. and how do I remove rather than disable a specific menu item?
I guess my broader question is how do I completely uninstall applications when I no longer have the original app bundle? I'm just concerned about clutter acclumating over time.
I created a service with automator... I just want to assign a keyboard shortcut to it. How do I do that!?
Once I create the service it shows up in [keyboard > keyboard shortcuts > Services > General] with no shortcut assigned to it... there is no option to assign a shortcut to it, double clicking it does nothing. There's no button to edit or anything. 10.6.8

1. Apps in Finders Utilities folder disappear as one goes back in time using TM's "Enter Time Machine" command. The earlier in time you go to, the fewer the apps one finds.
2. iPhoto suddenly won't recognize .JPG imports from my camera (something it's been doing for years) when the camera is hooked to the Mac via USB cable.It works OK if photos are loaded to a memory stick and then imported.
3. In Excel, the Links button is never highlighted regardless of the status of the links!You can't tell by looking whether you have active links or not!
There were more, but the technician at our local Mac Clinic fixed them.But the three above are still there.He said that he had never seen anything like it.
We have six mac computers in our office and we keep our files on a network drive that is accessed wirelessly. One of our folders has 40 or so client project folders inside it. I've discovered that on my iMac, about ten of these folders have lost their original status when I booted up this morning (they were all originals yesterday) and are now aliases demanding to be fixed or deleted. No one has copied them, moved them, and some haven't even been opened since April. I've done some research online and it seems this problem often gets blamed on moving a file or copying a file and the file/folder itself is written off as dead. But the extremely crazy thing is on the other 5 computers in this office, they can access the files as originals (which they are). I had one of my coworkers make a duplicate of one of my aliased folders, which she did, and then I was able to open it and use the contents. But about an hour later, it was suddenly an alias again and I no longer had access. We've had this problem on more than one computer in the office, but never the same folder at the same time. It can always be accessed from somewhere, so what causes one computer to suddenly view an original folder as an alias, while another computer can view that same folder as an orignal.

Has anyone else got this issue? You have a bunch of files you want to move to trash. You highlight them all, then right click, but "Move to trash" is missing from the menu.
If I highlight just one, the "move to trash" option is there. But disappears when multiple items are selected.
Anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix I can do to get "move to trash" for multiple selected items back?
While I'm really glad that Notes sync between the iPhone/iPod touch and Mail.app, I wasn't aware that they could get mixed in with each other. See the attached screenshot.

Is it just me, or is some of the icons such as Aperture, Nikon, Tweet, and Phone View in the Snow Leopard lighter vs the other icons in the Snow Leopard and all the icons in the Leopard screenshot? I edited these in Snow Leopard and Leopard and it seems the icons done in SL are lighter than the ones in Leopard. Am I seeing stuff or is it really lighter vs the others?

One screenshot shows the contextual menu (Ctrl-click or Right-clik) of the selected png image file on my desktop.
The other screenshot shows the "services" menu (Finder—>Services) for the same file.
I believe that normally the two screenshots should show the exact same set of services available for that file. However, as you can see, the contextual menu is missing one service, namely the mail.app service that attaches the selected file to a new mail message.
How come? This is driving me crazy because the missing service is one I use regularly, and I hate having to dig into the menu structure to find it every time. Right-clicking is just so much faster.

I just opened my Trash bin, and there were maybe 12-15 items in ithere. But when I use Secure Delete, the pop-up box says there are 931 items, and it then proceeds to delete them---I guess.I only saw the 12-15 files, and that's it.

Unless I install Adobe Reader all I get is dark black screen. I've tried using Firefox instead of Safari but have the same problem.Somehow a pdf created with Adobe Reader can no longer be opened with preview. I've check and preview is the default app for .pdf files. I tried deleting Adobe Reader for Mac but when I click on the web link preview can't open the document.

A few minutes ago I realised that many of my (many dozens of) Smart Mailboxes in Apple Mail (v4.5) have become corrupted. That is, they all have the same name and have all lost their selection criteria -- putting each one in 'edit' mode, I see that each simply has three selection conditions, all of which are empty. I have a huge backstore of email and use smart mailboxes to organise it all (by client, by job number, etc) in conjunction with MailTags. The MailTags data seems to be intact, so I don't think that's the problem (besides, some of my smart mailboxes that do not draw upon any MailTags-generated meta data are also affected).
I have tried restoring the smartmailboxes.plist file from TimeMachine (from a date 2 weeks ago -- and to the best of my knowledge my smart mailboxes were all intact last night).

Yesterday evening I found that Address Book was empty - no contacts displayed and Mail did not recognize the group name when I entered it in the To field.
Actions I've tried but did not resolve the issue:Restoring Address Book from a Time Machine backup that was previous to when the problem occurred.Deleting the Address Book app~/Library Address Book Plug-Ins~/Library/Application Support/Addressbook and~/Library/Application Support/Yahoo! Sync
And then restoring these same items from a Time Machine backup that was previous to when the problem occurred.Deleting the Address Book App and then reinstalling from my Snow Leopard Install DVD.
When I restored AB from Time Machine all my entries showed in Time Machine (even the backups made *after* the problem began) all vCards are there and seemingly are restored. But, when I make any effort to use a card or change to a different card, AB quits and it's back to an apparently empty address book.

It works perfectly when I click on "Run" within Automator. My my new service shows up in the System Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts/Services and I was able to give it a Keyboard Shortcut. However, it does not show up in any menu,ie, Finder/Services.
Sometimes I am told my "Services" cannot be used, ie. "Initial caps to words".

I have an old G4 tower and no monitor for it. I wanted to go through old files and I used to just login remotely (screen sharing, SSH or AFP) and do what I need. I don't know why, but now no services seem to be running. I know for certain that the computer is connected to the LAN network. Basically, I'm trying to find out what services may be running. I'm not trying to get past any security, just access my files. If it's stuck at the login window, will no sharing services start? I guess not, since no user is logged in.
