OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Unable To Retain Year Setting In Preferences

Feb 3, 2012

iMac 2.66 GHz

OS X 10.6.8

Unable to retain "short year settings" in Preferences > Language & Text > Formats.

Am able to set the year setting in the customize window to two digits with the pop-up menu for the year, which then appears correctly when the customize window is closed.  However, after the Preference window is closed and re-opened, the year appears in 4 digits.  The is occurring on one of the accounts.

The same procedure was used to set the date formats in the Administrator account, where it worked correctly.

OS X :: How To Retain ITunes Library After Clean Snow Leopard Install

Aug 27, 2009

I want to do a clean/fresh install of Snow Leopard tomorrow. I can deal with reinstalling apps, etc. but I really don't want to lose my iTunes library, mainly my play count. Crazy, I know, but hey lol.

What's the best way of doing a fresh install without losing it? File->Library->Back Up To Disk? Will simply saving my iTunes folder to an external, then copying it to the fresh install work?

OS X :: Setting Up Network Printer In Snow Leopard?

Jul 11, 2010

I have a Mac Pro which I just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I have an HP Multi-Function 2840 hooked up to the router via ethernet. This printer previously worked through Leopard.

Now, my understanding is that for SL, the drivers for this printer are in the operating system and can not be downloaded from HP.

How do I set this up as a network printer? I would like to be able to print from my other computers in the house as well.

Please Note: Snow Leopard only provides drivers for the printing function of this machine. I am going to have to revert to other means to use this device to scan.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Screen Resolution Setting Changes After Log-off?

Apr 9, 2012

I can't be the only person experiencing this, but I can't find anything on the 'net about it.   I've got a 15" MacBook Pro (early 2011) and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. About 1/3rd of the time when I logoff and go back to the Snow Leopard login window, the purple Aurora background is smaller than the screen's displayable area, and pushed up into the top left corner of the screen.  A wide band of solid blue takes up the right side of the screen and a narrrower one appears along the bottom of the screen.

The login window still works, and if I log into a user, the user's desktop is also limited to that upper left part of the screen -- a roughly 9" x 7" area, instead of the 13" x 8" displayable area of the whole screen.  The mouse pointer won't leave the (now limited) desktop area.

I've just figured out that  the display resolution shown in System Preferences-->Displays has been changed from the normal/default setting of 1440 x 900 to a setting of 1024 x 768!   It happens when logging out of any of (at least) four different users, including two that are rarely used. Restarting the system sets everything back to normal again, as does using System Preferences to set the display resolution back to 1440 x 900.  what could be causing the screen display resolution to change after logout?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Setting Up SSL With Apple Mail?

Apr 19, 2012

my email server was recently hacked and the hosting company I use has sorted out a new server to use with the option of using SSL for incoming and outgoing mail.

Inputing the details of the standard incoming and outgoing mail servers is fine - I'm just trying to work out how I can input the SSL options?

Using Apple Mail 4.5 - how do I go about adding the Incoming Mail Server (SSL) (without a port number) and the Outgoing Mail Server (which does have a port number)?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Setting The Default Webcam?

May 31, 2012

I have an external webcam that I would like to use instead of the webcam built in to the iMac. For audio, I can go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Input and select a device for sound input.  With video though, there is no such option I can find. I can manually select the webcam when I use FaceTime or Skype, but I have to manually go into the preferences for each application every single time I open it. Neither application nor the operating system has a way of setting a default webcam that I can find.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Preferences Will Not Save?

May 26, 2012

I have just recently upgraded to Lion and created a Snow Leopard partition to run some of my old pieces of music software. I've got a bit of annoying problem where I can't chnge the mouse preferences in the Snow Leopard partition.  I can change the dropdown boxes to set the right click etc. and they stay populated all the while that System Preferences is open.  However, the funcitonality of the buttons does not change and when closing and re-opening System Preferences the dropdowns are populated with the default options again.

I've tried deleting SystemPreferences.plist but this hasn't helped. EDIT:  I've also removed the Documents and Downloads stacks from my dock and since restarting these have appeared again.  As has the System Preferences icon in the Dock.  It seems to be more widespread than just mouse preferences.

OS X :: Setting Up User Accounts With Snow Leopard On New Mac Book Pro?

Dec 28, 2010

As an administrator (without FileVault protection) on SnowLeopard, I created a standard user account (test user1) with FileVault protection. I just want to get familiar with it before creating real accounts. But as an administrtor I can't look at files created by test user1. I get a message that I don't have permission.
Do I need FileVault on for the administrator in order to do this?

If not, as an administrtor, why can't I see what's on other user is doing?

Is there a way as an administrator I can see what's files are downloaded, created, websites visited, etc? I'm aware of creating a user account with Parental controls, but would that give me the ability to see what's in the folder?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: When Loaded Computer / Setting Were All Screwed Up

Apr 19, 2012

I turned on my mini, and it loaded as normal, but the date and time we're set to receive 12, 2000. Ny Internet was not connecting, apparently I need to redo it. There are a bunch of things asking for permission to accept incoming network connections (nfsd, named, nmbd, portmap, mDNSResponder) I don't even know what these are. Should I allow permissions? I am hoping that is all that is wrong, at least that is all I have noticed. Do you think I have a virus? Or is this just a glitch with the update from yesterday?

System Preferences appear corrupted within 10.6.8 - mouse will not activate any commands within any preference and will not close Finder windows (or initiate apps with a double click as it used to).  Have tried rebooting and resetting PRAM and NVRAM.

Another user account on the same machine appears to working without issue. Think my young son may have dabbled with system preferences after he downloaded Minecraft last night.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Keyboard & Trackpad Preferences Keep Resetting

Mar 12, 2012

I've had my MacBook Pro for just over a year now and it's been awesome (it was my first Mac after being a PC user for 20 yrs).

As soon as I got my Mac I modified the mouse & keyboard to act more like windows:modified the control key to work as commandenabled secondary (right) click on the track pad

This worked fine for a long time, then all of a sudden in the last month or so these preferences keep being lost and I need to go back in and set them up again.

Have I 'unlocked' some setting that allows these preferences to keep resetting? Or is my mac suffering from windows-like OS issues?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: System Preferences Not Saved After Restart MBP 10.6.8

Jul 3, 2012

Whenever I need to restart my MacBook Pro, a bunch of my preferences are lost. For example, I have to drag Google Chrome back in the dock. I lose my Expose preferences, login items I've disabled still pop up. Keyboard shortcuts with Spotlight (which I keep disabled because of a program I use), get set to default. It's terrbily frustrating to have to reset all these things over and over again and I can't find the answer. Part of it is I'm not terribly saavy with computer language. I can find the Terminal and type in commands though.
