system preferences not responding in snow leopard
Info:MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011)
Every time I open up my system preferences(like to change my wallpaper) the rainbow color wheel just shows up and doesn't go away. I end up just having to force quit the application every time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSystem Preferences is inactive. On the dock the Icon has a question mark on it.
I tried other solutions on here, but nothing has work.

my System Preferences sometimes hangs when i open it in Snow Leopard and i have to force quit it and then reopen to use it properly.
trashing its cache seems to relieve it temporarily but it soon starts to happen again and ive tried trashing its preferences file.
i lost my ssystem preferences on my macbook pro snaow leaopard. How do i get it back

System Preferences appear corrupted within 10.6.8 - mouse will not activate any commands within any preference and will not close Finder windows (or initiate apps with a double click as it used to). Have tried rebooting and resetting PRAM and NVRAM.Â
Another user account on the same machine appears to working without issue. Think my young son may have dabbled with system preferences after he downloaded Minecraft last night.Â

I have a mid-2008 Black Macbook that is giving me issues. Any time i go into the system preferences, my last window up will be shown, then when i go back into the main menu and click on what i want (Desktop & Screensaver), i just get the rainbow orb of death. The system preferences then show not responding and i then have to force quit the system preferences. Can somebody please tell me what is going on and why it keeps doing this, and how to prevent it from happening again.

I am unable to access system preferences. When I choose it under the apple it brings up the icon in dock but you can't access anything in it.

Whenever I need to restart my MacBook Pro, a bunch of my preferences are lost. For example, I have to drag Google Chrome back in the dock. I lose my Expose preferences, login items I've disabled still pop up. Keyboard shortcuts with Spotlight (which I keep disabled because of a program I use), get set to default. It's terrbily frustrating to have to reset all these things over and over again and I can't find the answer. Part of it is I'm not terribly saavy with computer language. I can find the Terminal and type in commands though.

My HP photosmart printer has stopped responding. The pinwheel comes up and freezes the computer when ever I try and access the printer, or anything to do with the printer. I have also tried going in through system preferences and the I cannot even access it. The pinwheel again pops up. I have not added any software lately. I have tried to update my software both for the Mac and the printer. There are no updates available. I am using Mac 10.5.8?

I have my Energy Saver preference set to turn off my monitor after 20 minutes of idle time. But the display never goes off.Â
Energy Saver used to work, now it doesn't and I have no idea why not, or what changed.Â

My system preferences is not responding, I have tried to restart the computer and even shut down. When I access system preferences it still stuck in the place where it originally froze. What to do?

I recently discovered after installing the new Snow Leopard OS that I did not have a bluetooth option under my system preferences. I own a mid 2008 Macbook Pro (pre-unibody, more info below) and I know that I've used it before. I recently took my computer in to be repaired by Apple because the keyboard and trackpad were inconsistently responsive, and to fix it they simply replaced the entire top panel (with the keyboard and trackpad). I have also checked under the system profiler and it says that there is no information available for my bluetooth...what exactly does this mean? Did they forget to reinstall it? or what?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI watched a video and it was very loud so I went to System Preferences and turned the sound down. But now I can't mute by clicking the F9 button as I normally can. I can mute by going to System Preferences but I don't want to do this. Before I changed the volume in System Preferences, the keyboard keys worked fine for volume adjustment. I could make it quieter, louder or mute.I have tried with checking and not checking the option to display volume on the screen (in System Preferences).

I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MacMini Server. Just set up the computer up and am trying to get user accounts for all of my family members. I have set up two Admin accounts, and want to set up a standard account for my child utilizing Parental Controls. When I set up the user, there is no box to check that says "Enable Parental Controls" and there is not Parental Control Icon in the System Preferences>System tab next to the "Accounts" icon. I have updated the system software using "Software Update" and have no programs or apps installed that did not come with my server from Apple.

I need to update from OS X 10.5.8 Leopard to OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard on my MB Pro. (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB SDRAM)Â Before I begin, can anyone tell me if there is a good way to keep my system preferences and applications preferences without having to "start over" after the system upgrade? Will I have to reinstall every piece of software?

I was going to delete something in trash and suddenly finder stopped responding. I don't want to break it. I've thought I should restart the computer or somehow fix it in disk utility... but I don't remember how...

I have an iMac G4 with Leopard, and there seems to be a glitch with my System Preferences. I can lock and password protect all of the panes available as I would normally. I have however discovered an issue. These locks seem to unlock themselves after powering back on. I'm not sure if the same happens upon logging back in, as I never log out to start with. Any solutions for this? Better yet, am I the only one who experiences this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Mac Intel Base running OS 10.6.8. Finder seems to be corrupt. I have checked the system and it seems to be working properly. However, my Mouse and keyboard stop responding when I relaunch finder, and I have a very slow start up time (10 to 15 minutes till the mouse and keyboard respond). I ran Disk Warrior and got a lot of permission and file errors. Disk Warrior says they are fixed, but every time I run Disk Warrior or Disk Utility the same errors keep showing up. Trying to go to safe mode to check to see if extensions are an issue doesn't work because mouse and keyboard do not respond so I can't log in.

I am having trouble starting my 21" iMac running Snow Leopard after I had shared the HD with my MB-Pro. I had removed the "everyone - Read Only" rights on the HD (on the iMac) and opened sharing so my MB could attach to it. Grey Apple Logo and progress circle upon startup now.Can changing these rights cause the system to not boot? I can go into single user mode but I am not sure what to do then.

I've just tried running the security test on the Shields Up! site, and I note that even though my firewall is in stealth mode (and Shields Up! reported that all the ports it probed were stealthed), it failed the test because it replied to an ICMP ping request - and yet the Snow Leopard firewall specifically states that when it's in stealth mode, it won't respond to such requests.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust partitioned 150gb for bootcamp on my 1TB HDD. I installed XP Media Center OEM without a problem at all. I then put the snow leopard disk in and it autoexec'd and then looked like it was installing stuff. Then it went to screensaver and would not respond to keyboard or mouse input.
