Sep 11, 2009I have another user on our network with an administrator account on my MBP, who normally logs on remotely. After upgrading to 10.6 there's no remote access to their account. When I tried to access the account from the machine, I get into the account but everything is unresponsive and the only way out is to turn the computer off using the on/off button.
Things are getting a bit desperate!

Apr 25, 2012I just made a TM backup of two user accounts (A & B) on one iMac.I now want to delete the files and accounts from the iMac and create a new user account.(A & B shared this computer and it is now going to be used by a third person alone. I don't want all the additional unused A & B account data clogging the hard drive.)Â If I delete the original A & B user accounts, will I still be able to access the backed up files? How?

Jun 25, 2012Up till now, all the family have been using just one user account on our iMac. (OK, I now know that's not a good idea!) I'm now going to be working from home so have set up a new user as Work. I've been using an IMAP mail service in Mail on the family user account and I've now set it up on the work account. If I delete the IMAP account from Mail in the family user account, will this delete my mail off the IMAP server so I cannot access it on the wrok user account?

Jul 21, 2010I really like the guest account feature that Leopard (and I'm assuming Snow Leopard) provides.I just got my first Macbook Pro... about a year old running Leopard... part of a client deal (you Mac people just got another application developer interested ).
Anyway.. I'm wondering... I"m getting rid of a few of my other computers on craigslist in the coming weeks and my girlfriend always wants to check her facebook. I'd prefer not to have her accidentally close something important so I setup & configured the guest account. I installed the server admin tools to fully customize the dock/etc.
Two questions however:
1: Thus far the guest account cannot access HTTPS (secure sites) websites. Not in Safari or Google Chrome. Is this an option somewhere? Something I'm missing? I've tried googling for about 30 minutes and have come up blank.
2: Without overwriting the default profile setup (incase I ever want to create new profiles)... is there a way to set a few default things for the Guest user? FOr instance... I know it wipes everything on close... I want it to remember that Google Chrome & Safari have run before (annoying that it asks "do you want this to be the default browser?.. or running the initial safari video).
Feel free to get as technical as you want... as I said I'm a seasoned linux & windows developer getting into the Mac world .
OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Preferences Will Not Save?
May 26, 2012I have just recently upgraded to Lion and created a Snow Leopard partition to run some of my old pieces of music software. I've got a bit of annoying problem where I can't chnge the mouse preferences in the Snow Leopard partition. I can change the dropdown boxes to set the right click etc. and they stay populated all the while that System Preferences is open. However, the funcitonality of the buttons does not change and when closing and re-opening System Preferences the dropdowns are populated with the default options again.Â
I've tried deleting SystemPreferences.plist but this hasn't helped. EDIT: I've also removed the Documents and Downloads stacks from my dock and since restarting these have appeared again. As has the System Preferences icon in the Dock. It seems to be more widespread than just mouse preferences.Â

I eventually found it in iPhoto preferences. Is this correct, or is my install (u/g from Leopard) broken? Also, what other Image Capture prefs were there, and where are they now?

Sep 6, 2009my System Preferences sometimes hangs when i open it in Snow Leopard and i have to force quit it and then reopen to use it properly.
trashing its cache seems to relieve it temporarily but it soon starts to happen again and ive tried trashing its preferences file.

At first, I thought his version of java is not updated but told me that it is updated based on the Software Update. Then I thought the problem's here is that the JRE's not turned on so I made him open the Java Preferences. But sadly, this doesn't open too. I made him gave me the logs on the Console to check the error.

Apr 26, 2012Suddenly in the last few weeks my Safari preferences won't stay. I set a home page and "a new window opens with the same page" and within a few minutes, Safari has forgotten it and when I open Safari I just get a blank page. I have tried deleting the com.apple.Safari.plist file which works temporarily, then it forgets everything again.I am also having a problem with my monitors holding a calibration. I use a monitor test kit and the monitors aren't retaining the icc profile information. I mention this as it could be related??I have a Mac Pro 3,1 with a quad-cor intel Xeon running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

Mar 12, 2012I've had my MacBook Pro for just over a year now and it's been awesome (it was my first Mac after being a PC user for 20 yrs).Â
As soon as I got my Mac I modified the mouse & keyboard to act more like windows:modified the control key to work as commandenabled secondary (right) click on the track padÂ
This worked fine for a long time, then all of a sudden in the last month or so these preferences keep being lost and I need to go back in and set them up again.
Have I 'unlocked' some setting that allows these preferences to keep resetting? Or is my mac suffering from windows-like OS issues?

Apr 19, 2012My computer just got back from the shop (in Vienna, im studying abroad till august) because my computer wouldnt start up anymore after crashing multiple times. They replaced the RAM and said that they couldn't get airport to work. but that wasnt exactly the whole story. Network Preferences apparently doesnt exist anymore. I've tried to locate the com.apple bits that should be resettable, and I've tried a PRAM restart. still no network settings, and no internet at all. Super frustrating since i just picked him up today.

Jul 3, 2012Whenever I need to restart my MacBook Pro, a bunch of my preferences are lost. For example, I have to drag Google Chrome back in the dock. I lose my Expose preferences, login items I've disabled still pop up. Keyboard shortcuts with Spotlight (which I keep disabled because of a program I use), get set to default. It's terrbily frustrating to have to reset all these things over and over again and I can't find the answer. Part of it is I'm not terribly saavy with computer language. I can find the Terminal and type in commands though.

Unable to retain "short year settings" in Preferences > Language & Text > Formats. Â
Am able to set the year setting in the customize window to two digits with the pop-up menu for the year, which then appears correctly when the customize window is closed. However, after the Preference window is closed and re-opened, the year appears in 4 digits. The is occurring on one of the accounts. Â
The same procedure was used to set the date formats in the Administrator account, where it worked correctly.Â

Aug 29, 2009I recently discovered after installing the new Snow Leopard OS that I did not have a bluetooth option under my system preferences. I own a mid 2008 Macbook Pro (pre-unibody, more info below) and I know that I've used it before. I recently took my computer in to be repaired by Apple because the keyboard and trackpad were inconsistently responsive, and to fix it they simply replaced the entire top panel (with the keyboard and trackpad). I have also checked under the system profiler and it says that there is no information available for my bluetooth...what exactly does this mean? Did they forget to reinstall it? or what?

Mar 27, 2012I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MacMini Server. Just set up the computer up and am trying to get user accounts for all of my family members. I have set up two Admin accounts, and want to set up a standard account for my child utilizing Parental Controls. When I set up the user, there is no box to check that says "Enable Parental Controls" and there is not Parental Control Icon in the System Preferences>System tab next to the "Accounts" icon. I have updated the system software using "Software Update" and have no programs or apps installed that did not come with my server from Apple.

May 24, 2012I bought this new MacBook Pro a month ago. When I try logging into my guest account, it froze. I had no other alternative but to get out of it by pressing the power button. Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem. Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in. I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.
