OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Setting The Default Webcam?

May 31, 2012

I have an external webcam that I would like to use instead of the webcam built in to the iMac. For audio, I can go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Input and select a device for sound input.  With video though, there is no such option I can find. I can manually select the webcam when I use FaceTime or Skype, but I have to manually go into the preferences for each application every single time I open it. Neither application nor the operating system has a way of setting a default webcam that I can find.

PowerPC :: Setting Up Webcam To Stream On IbookG4

Feb 12, 2009

I have an ibook G4 which connects wirelessly to a netopia router via airport card (under keypad on laptop) Recently came across Evocam and sounds like great software as just what i wanted to keep an eye on my dog whilst i am at work

but the problem i am having is that i can not view this webcam remotely (eg from work) I think i have tried every avenue but no direct help hence my query is being posted here! So what have i done so far:downloaded the 15 day free trial (not going to buy unless it works)got that going ok and interface showed IP and 8080 port clicked on view in browser and hey presto it work - but that is on local "internal" network and wont work over internet - so found out about port forwarding static IP etc so set a static IP which starts 192.168..... and got up router browser and opened/configured port to 8080. - still not working then was told i need my public IP when configuring the IP in the airport network page (sys pref - network - airport) so i did this and again came up fine on evocam interface but then realised I had no longer internet access so had to revert back to the original IP's, sub net mask DSN numbers so i could go online to see what i did wrong which is where i am now.

I understand from other forums and FAQ's that this is suppose to be pretty straight forward but i don't no where i am going wrong so this is my question need help to set up evocam on ibook through wireless and configure airport/ip/router CORRECTLY to make this work.
I have been in contact with evo support team over a number of emails but it all general info i am given and no step by step MAC process (for instance it says go into base station to port map view airport admin untility I go to this but no base station shows up for me to click on or re-configure is it because i just have apple airport card and not base station.I would appreciate it if anyone can help or know the steps i should follow to get this up and streaming my dog while at work

OS X :: Default In Snow Leopard / 32-bit Or 64-bit?

Sep 6, 2009

I'm a little confused with Snow Leopard, I have been reading and it looks like in order to enable the 64-bit you need to press key 4 and 6 when booting, I installed SL the next day it came out and since than my apps are running in 64-bit (looking at the Activity Monitor) without have to press 4 and 6 (it looks like 64-bit is the default on my macbook) which wasn't a problem until today that I wanted to run office 2004 and it didn't work, I was reading and it looks like rosetta wont run in 64-bit so, I don't know how to run my system in 32-bit.

1 - How can I turn the 64-bit off?
2 - Is it true that I need to run office in 32-bit?
If question number 2 is true, what if I want to run some apps in 64-bit do I need to reboot?

OS X :: Setting Up Network Printer In Snow Leopard?

Jul 11, 2010

I have a Mac Pro which I just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I have an HP Multi-Function 2840 hooked up to the router via ethernet. This printer previously worked through Leopard.

Now, my understanding is that for SL, the drivers for this printer are in the operating system and can not be downloaded from HP.

How do I set this up as a network printer? I would like to be able to print from my other computers in the house as well.

Please Note: Snow Leopard only provides drivers for the printing function of this machine. I am going to have to revert to other means to use this device to scan.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Screen Resolution Setting Changes After Log-off?

Apr 9, 2012

I can't be the only person experiencing this, but I can't find anything on the 'net about it.   I've got a 15" MacBook Pro (early 2011) and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. About 1/3rd of the time when I logoff and go back to the Snow Leopard login window, the purple Aurora background is smaller than the screen's displayable area, and pushed up into the top left corner of the screen.  A wide band of solid blue takes up the right side of the screen and a narrrower one appears along the bottom of the screen.

The login window still works, and if I log into a user, the user's desktop is also limited to that upper left part of the screen -- a roughly 9" x 7" area, instead of the 13" x 8" displayable area of the whole screen.  The mouse pointer won't leave the (now limited) desktop area.

I've just figured out that  the display resolution shown in System Preferences-->Displays has been changed from the normal/default setting of 1440 x 900 to a setting of 1024 x 768!   It happens when logging out of any of (at least) four different users, including two that are rarely used. Restarting the system sets everything back to normal again, as does using System Preferences to set the display resolution back to 1440 x 900.  what could be causing the screen display resolution to change after logout?

OS X :: Setting Up User Accounts With Snow Leopard On New Mac Book Pro?

Dec 28, 2010

As an administrator (without FileVault protection) on SnowLeopard, I created a standard user account (test user1) with FileVault protection. I just want to get familiar with it before creating real accounts. But as an administrtor I can't look at files created by test user1. I get a message that I don't have permission.
Do I need FileVault on for the administrator in order to do this?

If not, as an administrtor, why can't I see what's on other user is doing?

Is there a way as an administrator I can see what's files are downloaded, created, websites visited, etc? I'm aware of creating a user account with Parental controls, but would that give me the ability to see what's in the folder?

There are a bunch of things asking for permission to accept incoming network connections (nfsd, named, nmbd, portmap, mDNSResponder) I don't even know what these are. Should I allow permissions? I am hoping that is all that is wrong, at least that is all I have noticed. Do you think I have a virus? Or is this just a glitch with the update from yesterday?

The same procedure was used to set the date formats in the Administrator account, where it worked correctly.

OS X :: Safari Toolbar Reverts To Default In Snow Leopard

Just installed Snow Leopard (10.6) a few days ago, and most things are working as expected. However, I find that when I customize the Safari (4.03) toolbar, it will remain in that form until I quit. But when I open Safari again, the customized toolbar appears for a few seconds, and then reverts to the default. Very frustrating, as I have to customize it each time I open it in order to use buttons that have vanished. Firefox (ew) is fine, by the way.

Mac Mini :: Should Hold Off On Getting Until Snow Leopard Comes As Its Default System - CS3?

Mar 13, 2009

I am currently the owner of an aging Dual 800 Quicksilver and running Tiger on it. Been working on this machine for almost 7 years and still runs like a champ. It is starting to show its age big time, especially in CS3. Just wondering if I should hold off on getting the Mac Mini until Snow Leopard comes as its default system? Do you think Apple will give the mini another boost in specs this year? I'll be getting the Mini this year at some point with the Dell e-IPS 22" monitor. I'm a little nervous since I have heard so many issues with CS3 and Leopard (at work, we tried it and it constantly crashes). I don't want to bother with CS4 (or CS5 for that matter).

How much faster would the new mini be compared to what I have now? And ONE last thing. I know the 2009 mini has only been out for a short time, has anyone attempted to put in more RAM than the 4 GB supported? Photoshop is a hog for RAM if working on multiple layers, etc.

OS X :: How To Set Default Settings For All Files And Folders In Snow Leopard

Dec 11, 2009

I'm pretty new to Mac and I'm currently quite confused about how to set default settings for all my files and folders in Snow Leopard. Specifically, I would like for all the icons in Finder windows (and preferably also in the "Documents" stack in the Dock) to automatically be displayed as large icons and also for all my files and folders to be arranged by Kind - all of this in "List View". In "Icon View", all of these things do work (except for in the "Documents" stack in the Dock).

In "List View", when I select "Use as Defaults" in the "View Options" panel (View>Show View Options), it does not seem to apply my settings automatically to all my folders and files. Likewise, when I right-click in a Finder window and select "Arrange by > Kind", it only seems to arrange by Kind in that particular folder.

I have read several other threads, but none of the solutions seem to work for me. One thread suggested that I hold "alt" after I have right-clicked so that the option "KEEP arranged by" shows up, but this does not seem to happen in "List View".

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: How To Restore Preview To Be Default Reader
