I want to move a single application (Reunion 9) and various files created with that application from my previous MacBook to this MacBook Air. Can I do this with Migration Assistant, or is there some other way of achieving it ?

I am trying to set up a folder action to do the following... When a file is added to the "images" folder a new dated subfolder would automatically be created, and the file would be moved to this new dated subfolder.
Here's what I have so far (which I'm sure is way off base)
1) Folder action receives files and folders added to "Images"
2) Filter finder items - Find files where ALL of the following is true: Kind is ANY
3) New Folder - Name is "_" Where: "Images"
4) Add Date or Time to Finder Item Names: Add Date to folder name
5) Move Finder Items: This is the step that I'm stuck on. I don't know how indicate the newly created folder in step 3
Another question I have is how to make automator check to see if there's already a subfolder with the current date and put the file in that subfolder instead of creating a new subfolder with a duplicate name.

Here is what I have: Macbook Pro - utilizing around 80GB of HDD. I have a large iTunes library, a small amount of Word and Excel files, very few applications (VLC, Microsoft Office, Transmission, Toast, etc.), and a large iPhoto library. I have everything backed up on a Western Digital external hard drive using Time Machine. Over the past two years, I have accumulated a lot of files and extensions that I don't need or want. I am soon going to trade for either a 15-inch MBP or an iMac. Rather than restore everything on the new machine using my Time Machine back up, I just want to start with a brand new computer. How do I get single applications from my external hard drive to the new computer? For example, I want MS Office on the new one. How do I get it over without reinstalling with the disc?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got my old iBook G4 with loads of docs, musics, pictures etc on it, and have bought a recent 2nd hand MBP running Snow Leopard, and want to transfer everything over to it. I tried Migration Assistant but this doesn't seem to work properly Tiger to SL, seems designed for Leopard to Snow Leopard. So:
1) Should I upgrade Tiger to Leopard on the G4, and then use Migration Assistant? If so do I need a special Tiger to Leopard upgrade disc or will an ordinary Leopard disc do?
2) Should I aim to have the same username on the MBP as on the G4, or will this cause problems?
3) Any other tips on getting my stuff from the old computer to the new one!
I was migrating from my PC to my Mac through local wireless. The process was intrrumpted but in the Mac still showing the "transferinf info" How can I stop it?

I recently purchaed a Macbok Pro 15" the disk has only 3 user accounts Guest and 2 personal accounts. I have a SuperDuper backup of the Macbook Pro 17" disk and would like to restore the Users folder. However, Migration Assistant complaints all the accounts exists on the new computer! There are no accounts on the new computer with the same name. I rename the accounts but Migration Assistant complains those accounts exists. Migration Assistant restored Applications, computer settings and other folder. The option to replace the account is greyed and cannot be selected and renaming is not working.

I am transitioning from Windows Vista to a desktop Mac with OS X Snow Leopard my husband bought. I can't find any information as to how he got folders created and named to hold various related files. I have created two files I want to put into a new folder. How can I create a new folder to move them into? I have a manual and still can't find the information.

Ever since installing Snow Leopard, whenever I create a new image in Photoshop and save it to a file, and then I go into that file to look for it, it is missing. The only way I can find the file is if I enter the name of the image in the finder window and do a search - then it says that the image is in the image folder - where I put it - but when I go there, it isn't there. So the only way to find and then open that newly created image, is to remember what I called it, and then enter it's name in the finder serach window. The other problem that I notice with Snow Leopard is that the newly created icon images in finder are all blurry. The blurriness seems to be random. Some are, some are not.

I have a Time Machine Backup that I created in Lion 10.7 and I need to know if this will allow me to install it from 10.6.My HD is on its way out and I need a replacement. I never thought I'd say it, but after decades of PC use I am finally seriously considering switching to the world of Mac, which would entail a pretty massive data migration. Anyone know if there's a way to just link up my ATA hard drive from my PC to a Mac via USB or firewire or something, and just transfer the data (word docs, photos, music - obviously not apps) to the hypothetical new Mac? That would be a heck of a lot easier than burning a jillion CDs in order to transfer the data, which is my current best option.
Also, and this is more obscure, and might not even be possible, but I figure I'd ask - I've been using Eudora as a mail client for years (really old version, 3.0, still works under XP believe it or not). I would love to be able to migrate my mail. Eudora 3.0 stores the mail as text in these files marked ".mbx", but of course, it's not that simple, because to actually index them, the app has to refer to corresponding "table of contents" files with a ".toc" extension. I could transfer the .mbx files to a new mac easily enough - I mean, they're just text - but it would be lovely, so lovely, to keep the indexing. Anyone know of a converter out there that could carry that all over into a mail client, any mail client, for Mac OS?
One of these days, I may purchase a Crucial SSD (512GB).
I need to know how to copy the contents of my current factory HDD (seagate 5400rpm 500GB) to the Crucial SSD. Note that they are of different sizes.
What I have:
- Carbon Copy Cleaner
- Time Machine (with time capsule)
- Spare 750GB external HDD
Which is the fastest, safest, and easiest way to accomplish this task? Again, the drives are of different sizes, and only one can be in the machine at a time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI originally formated my Drobo to 2TBs which I've now outgrown and need to reformat to avoid having two partitions. That requires that I xfer the data on a Drobo to another HD. Right now I have 1.2TB of data on the Drobo. I'm pretty a 1.5TB drive will be able to handle this, but not 100%. Will it once it's formatted? Next question: is migrating data from a Drobo to an ext. drive as easy as using Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper and cloning the Drobo and then using CCC/SD again to send the data back to the Drobo? Do these apps see the Drobo as one drive and Drobo does the rest, as it normally does?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to a new MacBook Pro from my very Old MacBook, but it was running latest version of Snow leopard. I first tried the set up assistant to transfer all my Information from Time Machine Back up to New MacBook pro. This seemed to work fine except Mail.
Mail launches says that it is transferring my e-mails (11,000+) this runs OK, then it says that I am going to be upgraded and the little box says "Migrating data", this just runs and runs and basically nothing happens and I can't run Mail.
My iCloud is configured and this is all working from the web, also it is working fine on my iPhone 4s. I have also tried creating a Test account deleting the origional transferred account (my old Computer) then instead of using the Wizard I used the Migration assistant. This has basically done the same as the above.

Trying to transfer data from Mc 10.6.8 to a new Mac Air on my home wireless network. Starts off ok and after 15 minutes...Macair message says the other Mac isn't responding...Check network devices for connection and being turned on. All seems to be connected and on and all within 12 inches of each other.

View 3 Replies View RelatedReports have been cropping up on the Apple Support forums that users have been losing all their data due to a nasty bug in Snow Leopard, Apple's latest Operating System. Many users are reporting that all settings are being reset and most data is gone, according to iTWire.
The problem, can easily be reproduced when a user logs into the 'guest' account, either on purpose or by accident, and when they log back out of the account and back into their normal one, they find that their account has been fully reset with all data wiped and lost - the account is like a brand new one. The home directory still exists under "/Users/username" but is completely empty.
Users are reporting that the data is unrecoverable and cannot be found anywhere on the hard drive, and the only way to restore it is if the user has been performing backups on a separate hard-drive. Apparently the problem has been present since a few days after launch, as the forum post dates back to 12th September, but as of yet, Apple has been silent.
It seems the only work around at this stage is to disable the Guest account, or at least disable it and then re-enabling it so that it's a native Snow Leopard account. Another suggestion is to create a new account and enforce parental controls, if you really need a temporary account.
It's not clear how many users are affected, but it seems like any user who had Leopard before the upgrade, and had the guest account enabled are affected and are at risk.
Luckily... I'm a Win 7 guy.
I have been hearing that Apple has switched from using AccuWeather to Weather.com (The Weather Channel) for the weather Dashboard widget in Snow Leopard. Is this true? Anyone with the WWDC build or the newer build. The fact that my iPod touch (weather.com / yahoo) weather app and OS X dashboard (AccuWeather) never match is kind of annoying.

I'm wondering however, if I decide to do a clean installation, will I be able to bring back all my files with Time Machine like you could do with Leopard? (I remember when I first connected my Time Machine HDD to my current computer it asked me if I wanted to restore my data) Also, will my Apps also be in restored onto Leopard? Or would it just be my files?

When I put my snow leopard disc in my computer, it has 1 option which says: Install Mac OSX and if I press that it says, press continue to restart your computer and installation will begin (or something like that). It's not clear to me if it's gonna erase my harddrive or not.
