OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mail Has Stopped Getting New Messages?
May 14, 2012
New mail messages appear in Mail on iCloud but, after working perfectly for weeks have suddenly stopped downloading to Apple Mail on the computer (Snow Leopard). I'm not aware that I've made any change that might produce this result. The same failure has occurred on both my iMac and my MacBook.
I'm using Mail 3.6 on OS 10.5.8. I have three email accounts I manage through Mail. My main email account has stopped receiving emails. I can still send but not receive. My other two email accounts both send and receive just fine.Â
Mail had prompted me to import messages after a restart right before this account stopped receiving mails. All of the emails (from all three accounts) imported successfully and I'm sure what prompted Mail having to reimport emails in the first place. This main email account had grown quite large, around 46,000 messages and I've since got that number down to 28,000.Â

The Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.
I am unable to retrieve new messages in mail on IMac. Went to mail preferences and checked account info which are the exact settings as of yesterday and matches the same preferences in my other IMac. I have my wifi connection working just can't get mail. What to do next? I did run Main Menu and Repair Disk permissions. Mail is working on my MacPro and other IMac.
My MacBook runs Mail 4.5. I use it to access my work email, which is through Outlook. I can't find a way to archive messages. A friend of mine has a newer version of Mail, and she has the option to archive, so I'm not sure what's going on
I have some people send text messages to my email, and until recently I could read them fine. Now they started showing up blank. When I view the messages on a windows machine I see a .txt attatchment that I can open, that has the message. Why am i unable to see that in Mail?
I recently did the mobileme to icloud swtich to keep my me.com email.Since Snow Leopard doesn't have an iCloud option and the MobileMe account option no longer works, I had to switch to create a new IMAP account with all of iCloud's server info.Ever since, the mac mail.app has been downloading messages practically non-stop.Every few minutes it will download 5000+ messages and growl notifications will fill up my screen. My mail folder is currently at 20gb and growing. I know there isn't that much mail data on the server as I originally had my mobileme limit set much lower. I tried deleting the account and creating a new one again, however it still happens.Â
Mail [snow leop] stops displaying messages in viewer window until I open a new viewer window. That is the message text in the right window section does not show. I have looked for an item in Preferences and find nothing relating to this. This is an issue that occurs more often now. What need I do?
The Mail program stopped retrieving new emails. It shows my last email came last night, but when I sign into [URL] I have 8 new emails there. Tried closing/rebooting but no luck. Also it's not giving me a password prompt like it sometimes does, so I know it's not a password issue.
I went to send a message from my apple mail (gmail account) and it won't send. Says smtp.gmail.com is offline. I didn't change any settings but when I went in to check them, they were all gone. I added back smtp.gmail.com under description and my complete email address under server name. I then went to advanced settings and made sure the Use default ports (25, 465, 587) was checked and also Use Secure Sockets Layer was checked. I chose Password for authentication and added my complete email address for user name with my password. It still says I'm offline and won't sent a message.
"Photoshop CS" and "Acrobat 6.0 Standard" suddenly stopped working in my iMac, apparently after I upgraded it to MacOS 10.6.8 (the latest version of Snow Leopard). Both programs had worked normally until that OS upgrade. I deleted Photoshop CS and tried to re-install it from the original CD, but the installation never proceeds because I get an error message entitled: "Install Adobe Photoshop CS quit unexpectedly". This is the full error message:Â
Process:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â LaunchCFMApp [1516] Path:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â /Volumes/Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) CS/Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) CS/Install Adobe Photoshop CS.app/Contents/MacOS/Install Adobe Photoshop CS Identifier:Â Â Â Â Â com.MindVision.InstallerVISE
Suddenly my 'Mail' program does not 'Get Mail' when I clik the button or choose the command in the menu. Nothing happens, no sign of downloading anything.Â
But the red dot on the Dock icon shows I have 8000+ unread messages.Â
I haven't added any new software or upgraded the OS for a number of days. Worked OK this morning. I've tried restarting both the program and the computer.Â
I work with Safari, my provider is Free, my adresses are also Free. For two months I have been searching how to repair my mail boxes : I can send messages but I do not receive incoming mail.Â
I do not know whether this is a problem with Apple or with Free (who have not yet succeded in solviing my problem) .Â
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Safari and Free
Apple Mail stopped working after replacing and restoring the Main Hard Drive in the upper bay. Internet connection is good, and the Mail client troubleshooting (Comcast) was no help. I can start the App, but it does not retrieve or send mail through Comcast anymore. I have a MacBook Pro with the same settings and Mail works fine.
iCal has stopped syncing using .mac and I can't use iCloud because I'm on Snow Leopard (can't upgrade yet due to Lion's lack of support of previous versions of Microsoft Office). The iCal sync option is turned on in system preferences. Has Apple changed something already in .mac to cause this?Â
Mail has worked flawlessly for me for several years. But this week, it stopped loading (retrieving) my messages from my .mac/me/iCloud service. For some reason, my .mac account in Mail is offline. When I try to take it back online, mail tells me that my password isn't being accepted. (But it works just fine if I go to my iCloud account and use it to log on and check my mail there. And it's no prob retrieving my mail on my iPhone, either.)
(I have several other e-mail accounts set up in Mail, and they work just fine. Only my .mac/me/iCloud account stopped working.) I've tried to change various settings in the preferences for the account, but it's been to no avail. Some of the various error messages I've received after trying to fix the prob: And here are info panels I see when I check the account in Mail's preferences: Note how port 993 is greyed out here; it's not greyed out for my other email accounts (and it's the same port w/ those, too).
I have 6 identical messages in Apple Mail dating from 2006. I cannot delete them or move them. I've been told it is due to the messages being corrupted. OK. How do I get rid of them?
Info: MacPro 2x2.66 Ghz, 500 Gb, AT1900, Mac OS X (10.5.2)
I am using Mail 4.5. I used to have a Junk button next to the Delete button. I would select a long list of messages and click the Junk button. I was making adjustments in my Preferences (to stop certain filters), and must have done something to make that button disappear. Also, it seems to have stopped filtering junk. My Junk Mail preferences still show: Enable junk mail filtering, When junk mail arrives, move it to the junk mailbox, and all the rest of the boxes are checked.

I have quite the issue. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard (from Leopard) via USB install disk [thumb drive with Snow Leopard .dmg, Mac OS journaled formatted, GUID...] and everything seems to be working just fine EXCEPT...
My interwebz stopped working!
The airport seems to be working and recognizes the other networks in range, and says that it's connected. When I try to load a page, Safari continues to try and load but eventually says that the 'page can't be displayed'.
I've tried everything - Resetting router, switching browsers, renewing DHCP Lease, toggling airport, etc. It won't even work via ethernet cable from the router. I've read some other people that have had these issues but have not seen any fixes.
Running a Unibody Macbook Pro 2.8 GHz, 4GB RAM
I'd really appreciate any feedback you guys have. If you are having the same issue, please post here so we can collaboratively figure this out.
I went to use my tablet today, and nothing happens. It shows up in the USB bus list, but when I check the System Preferences under the Wacom icon, it says no tablet is connected. I tried d/l'ing the latest driver from Wacom[a 2010 update for my Intuos], with the same result. Could this havee something to do with the iTunes update that fixed a drag and drop bug?
Time machine has stopped backing up. Under the 'Backing up' progress bar it says that it is scanning thousands of items followed by preparing thousands of items and then cleans up. However, after all of this the latest backup remains the same and no fresh backup is made. I think the problem started when I added a new user restored using time machine (my wife's computer was in for repair and she needed a temporary home!).
I have a mobileme account with a further 3 names added using mail only. Because of legacy I cannot move to OS Lion at the moment. Can we still use our mac.com/me.com email addresses after June without signing up to icloud. If one or more of the email only account holders update to Lion and icloud, can they transfer their emai accounts without the main account holder doing so. If we all have other apple devices ie iphone and ipads, and sign up to icloud, can we then use our mobile me mail addresses also on our OS Leopard macs.
Info: MacBook Pro (17-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
So far today, we've got about 10,000 new messages in our mailbox but they're all old ones that were deleted long ago. If we try to delete them now, they come back again.
