View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it's possible to play sound through the speakers and headphones of a computer simultaneously.
The reason I was wondering if it would work, is because I'm recording a song for school, and I can't hear the backing track through my speakers, but my computer still picks it up. However if i we're to use headphones and my speakers could be playing the same thing at the same time, everything would be fine.
When I put DVD's into my disk drive, I only hear the sound of the DVD like the commercials and voices and what not, but the screen is completely black. This has happened with every DVD I've tried, including ones I've used before.

I was wondering if it was normal for a Mac Pro to take about 5-10 seconds before it plays the Apple "dong" when it boots up? My Dell does the same, it takes about 5-10 seconds for the Dell boot screen to finish before going to the Windows boot screen.

I downloaded an .avi file and the sound won't play. It said the audio was in dolby ac3 code 8192 and I would need a plug-in. I tried converting to DivX and playing through Flip & that didn't work either. I tried placing the file in the library>audio>plug-in>component folder & that didn't work. There is no Quicktime folder to place it in.

how to get sound to play on my TV from my laptop for several days now. I bought an Mini Display Port to HDMI converter (Kanex Iadapt) off Amazon that is supposed to have audio support. I connected it with the HDMI cable to my TV and changed my display settings to mirror and the picture comes up fine but when I tried to change the output in sound settings to my TV my TV didn't even come up as an option. I went out and bought a Y audio cable figuring my laptop may be older than 2010 and needs an additional cable, plugged the audio cable into the same HDMI outputs in the TV and still no sound.

The sound works fine otherwise (though it's never loud enough on this machine - I think the speakers may have issues). Regardless, for youtube ONLY, it will play video fine and maddeningly... no sound! I got this machine used and I don't seem to recall that it had this problem a couple years ago, but that one day it just stopped having audio for youtube. I have already tried resetting the PRAM and PMU - no effect.

I realize that my airtunes can only play sound from my music lib. When I play movies on itunes, airtunes cannot stream it.
so my question is how to make very sound on itunes to be streamed via airtunes. or it would be even better if Airtunes can stream all system sound.
Is there a software could do that?
So I set up my Airport Extreme with my speakers, and its great to have my music and videos play wirelessly... in iTunes! But I can't seem to figure out how to play sound through these speakers in other applications. It doesn't show up as an output source in my Sound preferences and other apps don't seem to let me choose my wireless speakers for sound. What do I need to do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf any of you recall, in System 7, you could double-click a sound file and it would just play without launching an app. The OS itself was capable of playing sounds, like system sounds or even music files (you could also use QuickTime). This was pre-iTunes. I miss those days. The other day, I was trying out some sound effects, and double-clicking them launched the behemoth bloatware app, iTunes. Of course, I could pick another app, but I would prefer no app at all, i.e., system-level, ready-to-eat sounds; just click and it plays. Does anyone know of a system-level plug-in or background app that works in this way? An analogous system function would be clippings. Double-click one of those and it just pops up; no app launches. This is how System 7 worked, and I sorely miss it. I use sampled sounds a lot, and I just want to click on them to quickly hear what they sound like in that same simple way we once could.
