Quicklook has stopped workingon my MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8. Pressing the space bar on a file yields nothing. Is there a way to update or reset it so it starts working again?

USB Tethering stop working (while WiFi and Bluetooth tethering continue to be ok) on Mac 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard fully updated) after my iPhone device has been updated from iOS 5.0.1 to 5.1.The present issue is not related to the iPhone (Personal Hotspot ok, Carrier/APN settings ok). Moreover, USB layer seems to be ok on Mac also due to the fact that iTunes recognizes it correctly. Network Services on Mac are instead affected. Steps to Reproduce:1. Remove 'iPhone device' from Network Preferences;2. Connect iPhone via USB cable to the Mac;3. A new 'iPhone device' does not appears while the /var/log/kernel.log says:[DGMTP_Drv.cpp][probe()][00103][ERRO] Current vid (0x05ac) and expected vid (0x04e8) is not matched Other interesting information preceding the mentioned above error on kernel.log are:kxld[com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEthernetHost]: The super class vtable '__ZTV20IOEthernetController' for vtable '__ZTV20AppleUSBEthernetHost' is out of date. This morning I've installed OS Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my iMac, previously I had OS Tiger 10.4.11 running. Everything seemed fine until I restarted and then I started getting "USB drawing too much power" promps all over the place even though the only thing that's attached to the iMac is the keyboard and the mouse (they both work fine). The process went like this:The iMac is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo from october 2007First I did an upgrade of my RAM, from 1GB to 2GB, that went ok.Then I runned the install dvd for Snow Leopard, I did not perform a clean install, just did it over my old data. After restart, everything worked but i got this USB warning message, one of them. At that point my usb's still worked, (even though the warning) I could print and scan. To get rid of the warning, i resetted the PRAM and SMC. After doing so, the promps multiplied and my usb ports ceased working, except for the keyboard and the mouse attached to it.I've done the Apple Hardware Test, and it gives no malfunctions.Firewire works fine, Isight buildt-in camera and bluetooth too.I've tried all usb's and the keyboard will work in all of them, not like my printer and scanner which are completely ignored.USB power warning also appears at restart with no deviced connected (no keyboard and mouse, i've tried).I've also found in many forum entries the possibility of a problem on the logic board, but since i've never had a problem with my imac until today i would not be sure about a hardware malfunction. The last thing i've found around that could be a clue is something about the kernel extensions, but that's complete chinese for me, I'm a mac plug&play user and not too much of a mac expert.
Internet working OK. Software Update produces the regular display with a dropdown panel containing "The Software Update Server (su.ccukdev.net) is not responding." and two choices "Network Diagnostics" and "Quit". The Network checks out OK.
I have this weird problem.I can not open Excel and Powerpoint at the same time. I have to quit PP in order to open Excel or it won't open. Also Excel needs to be off or PP will crash when opened. Word seems to be working fine. I have reinstalled Office 2008 now twice with no help. I have also updated to the lates 12.1.5 version and no help. I also tried to repair permissions and deleted the .plist files but that did nothing.
I cannot access or save exel or Powerpoint Files. I did restart the machine after every install. I also repaired the disc permissions but I had two messages come up: 1. SUID file " system/library/CoreS...as been modified and will not be repaired 2. SUID file " system/library/Private...as been modified and will not be repaired When I try and open an excel or PowerPoint file that already exists, a message pops up and says that "the file cannot be accessed".When I try and save a new file it says that several things could be wrong such as:I have installed and uninstalled so many times. I have called apple and they said its a Microsoft problem so they wouldn't help. I then called Microsoft and they wont help unless I purchase another copy. The copy I originally had got deleted during my reboot. I have no idea how to solve this problem. I need excel in order to do my schoolwork.
I am trying to paste link a graph from excel into powerpoint. The paste link option is not available. I also tried to paste link the data from the spreadsheet part of excel to the graph slide type in powerpoint so it can create the graph. The spreadsheet in excel is formula driven so it pastes with ref errors.
I used to be a big fan of Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint, but I was using an old version of Office on a PC. Now I have migrated to Mac and gotten Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, and the new versions of Powerpoint and Excel are completely awful. What is causing all these problems? When were these problems introduced - 2008, 2004, or earlier? Are the Mac versions of Office simply worse than the PC versions? And most importantly: What version should I downgrade to? Should I be running Office in Windows under Fusion? Or should I ditch Microsoft entirely (which I would truly love to do) and start using some competing product for my slideshow and spreadsheet needs? Here are the problems I am having with the new versions, from most obnoxious to only moderately obnoxious:Excel:1. There is absolutely no way to make error bars derive their height from a column of data. Error bars must be a fixed size or a fixed percentage. This means it is totally impossible to do error bars that indicate the standard deviation, interquartile range, or 95% confidence interval. This feature was present in the old version of Excel, they simply removed it. Was Microsoft intentionally trying to make this software useless to scientists?
2. There is no way to select one column and call it the x-values and another column and call it the y-values (when making a chart). You have to select two columns at once, and Excel will guess which is which. And they better be neighboring columns, too.3. The chart options and formats menus/dialog boxes are completely different than they used to be, and much more restrictive. I can't find the tab where you enter the chart title, the axis titles, and check a box for whether you want a legend or not.4. All the charts are really incredibly ugly. They are full of shadows, bubbles, rounded edges, bevels, and bright colors. There is no way to make plain graphs.5. I can't get the page-break preview dotted lines to disappear. They are distracting, I don't want to see them.Powerpoint:1. Everything in Powerpoint is now hideously ugly, and you can't make it simple. The problems are similar to the aesthetic problems in Excel, but fifty times worse.Every table, every arrow, and every autoshape is now 3D, puffy, brightly colored, rounded on the edges, and has shadows and reflections of light on its metallic textured surface. You cannot make a normal black arrow, or a normal table made of straight, rectangular, black lines. You cannot make a plain red hexagon, it will look bubbly and metallic. I'm sure the people at Microsoft thought that simple things looked archaic and unsophisticated, but they completely failed to realize that you need to keep the simple option available. The new aesthetic that they impose on all Powerpoints looks completely childish, unprofessional, and silly.
2. When I open an old presentation (saved long ago with my PC), Powerpoint modifies the original file without warning, without asking, and there is no way to override it. I have to carefully make a copy of every .ppt presentation before I double click on it, because double clicking and letting Powerpoint do its horrific dark magic will irreparably change the file. That is not okay. On multiple occasions, I have had to use Time Machine to restore .ppt files that I accidentally opened without copying and Powerpoint then mangled. It changes the slide layouts so that arrows don't line up, pictures overflow the slide, tables turn ugly and colorful, fonts change size, and so on.
Both/All Office for Mac applications:1. Expose and Spaces do not work, there are lots of annoying bugs with window management in these programs.I have found a few things that I like, but I will gladly give them up for a good downgrade that addresses these problems:1. Powerpoint can now export as images really easily.2. Excel gives the syntax of every function in a pop-up box every time you type it. That is helpful. That's it. Good work, Microsoft. Your new versions created 8 big new problems that weren't present in the old versions, and you added 2 tiny features which I slightly appreciate. Please help. Advise. Suggest. What is the last version before these problems? Is there some way that I am not seeing to enter x- and y-data in Excel, or make things non-ugly in both?
I had a goodworking SUS (10.6.8) working but the drive is getting full so i change the location of the files to another disk (in the xserve)and follow instructions from Apple (page 84 from the manual System Imaging) sudo cp -p /private/var/db/swupd/html /Volumes/My_Volume/My_Software_Updates_Folder/This works and i copy the files to a new drive. I also change the SUS so that theu host files for Lion clients url..works also, start SUS in Server Admin but when clients wants to connect i get an error that there is no SUS available and when i use the browser for an check i get een Forbidden error url...ForbiddenYou don't have permission to access /index.sucatalog on this server.Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80.
Just got the new office 2011 which I use every day for university, primarily the powerpoint program for presentations and note-taking. Today I noticed that my battery drained more quickly than usually and found out that I use the nvidia 330M when powerpoint is open. Just did some research and neither word or excel makes the MBP use the 330M. Only powerpoint. Is there any way to force the intel gfx on all the time? Or at least when running on battery?
I cannot find the "Invert" picture color command in the new Powerpoint 2011. It used to be in the picture format section of the now gone "Formatting Palette" of Powerpoint 2008. Does anyone know if the command still exists and if so where is it?
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, am running 10.6.8. My old excel files In MS Ofc for Mac will not open as Excel, rather they do in "Numbers." How do I view and update my old spreadsheets?
My Mac Pro hangs up midway through loading Excel spreadsheets, small and large. I've tested the 14GB of ram with no faults. Tried two different new versions of MS office - school and business to no avail. Maybe video card?

I have accidentally wiped the hard drive of a mid 2011 imac 27" there was no install DVD provided for this machine and a retail Snow Leopard disk will not boot, apparently I need 10.6.8 and the retail disk is only 10.6.3 is there any solution to this dilemma?
Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.
I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this? Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?
Lion is causing me so many problems my macbook is almost unusable now... Is it possible to install Snow Leopard in Lion's place? Or does this hardware not support older Operating Systems?
What is the best software to convert mail from OE 2011 (pop) to Mail v4.5? I've exported the mail and now need to find software to import it into Mail.
"Photoshop CS" and "Acrobat 6.0 Standard" suddenly stopped working in my iMac, apparently after I upgraded it to MacOS 10.6.8 (the latest version of Snow Leopard). Both programs had worked normally until that OS upgrade. I deleted Photoshop CS and tried to re-install it from the original CD, but the installation never proceeds because I get an error message entitled: "Install Adobe Photoshop CS quit unexpectedly". This is the full error message:Â

Can I run Snow Leopard on a MacBookPro Late 2011 build 11D50b? I have read in the forums its possible for early 2011 MacBook Pros. Even on a virtual machine would be OK. Print Drivers are not available for 10.7 for photo printers we use for our business and will not be made since the printer is no longer manufactured
I looked and I didn't find any info so I just wanted to tell you that Solver for Excel Mac 2011 is now available as a free download here: http://www.solver.com/ This guys also have some other really cool tools if you want to check them out.
