OS X :: Paste Link A Graph From Excel 2008 Into Powerpoint

Oct 24, 2010

I am trying to paste link a graph from excel into powerpoint. The paste link option is not available. I also tried to paste link the data from the spreadsheet part of excel to the graph slide type in powerpoint so it can create the graph. The spreadsheet in excel is formula driven so it pastes with ref errors.

Applications :: Making Graph In Excel 2008

Feb 17, 2008

I need to make a very, very simple line graph. In column A, I have a list of years. In column B, I have the data....numbers that correspond to something in that year. Simple, right? It really couldn't be any less complex. I selected both columns, then I went to create a new line graph, and it created a graph that had the years (from 0-2500 even though the actual range is 1973-2005) on the Y axis, and the data on the X axis. And each column of data was its own series, so I had 2 lines, which, due to the scales, was basically 2 horizontal lines. I removed the extra series (the year series), and was able to get the line to look right. It also put the column B data on the Y axis like I want, but on the X axis, it just counts from 1-33. But I want the years on the X axis. How the hell do I do this? I'm 99% positive Excel 2004 let you set the X axis labels.....did they really remove it in 2008? This seems like something that should be so simple, I shouldn't have to post on a forum to figure out

OS X :: Plot Simple Line Graph In Excel 2008

Feb 8, 2010

I have been trying to plot a simple line graph in excel 2008, using two columns, one with my x values and one with my corresponding Y values. However I cannot do it..it will not let me put the data together but rather has two separate lines for each column...or it will have all points in a straight vertical line...i am really confused on why it is so difficult to make a simple graph

Applications :: Copy Paste From Excel 2008 To Adobe Illustrator

Dec 23, 2009

I'm struggling already whole with trying to copy and paste a excel diagram from excel 2008 to adobe illustrator CS3. Now I found out on the microsoft homepage, that this is a known problem and also in several forums people where struggling with this. Microsoft suggests to copy something from illustrator into excel and afterwards it should also work the other way around. This is definitely not the case. I really need to solve this issue. Does somebody know if there is another solution, or to whom one could contact, or if a update which could solve this problem is in the pipeline?

OS X :: Excel For Mac - Graph Not Plotted Correctly

Oct 14, 2010

I'm currently trying to create some graphs in Excel, and the data isn't plotting as I would like it to be - not sure if there is something I am doing wrong here or if there is a setting to change. My data goes like this:

Mass (g)Average Period (s)
502.074
752.089
1002.110
1252.111

and I would like mass on the x-axis and average period on the y-axis. However, my graph is placing both values on the y-axis and placing a key beside the graph. The graph and the way I have set out the data are attached below.

2 d 4
2 e 7
2 f 6
3 g 4
3 h 7
3 i 2

The graph has column X on the X-axis and Y on the y-axis. Is there a way graph the means of the Y column for each of the groups in column A (1's, 2's, 3's)?

Applications :: Mac Office 2008 And Powerpoint Versus Office Powerpoint Compatability?

May 8, 2009

I'm sure most people suffer from this but here goes.

So I make a presentation on Mac Office powerpoint, everything is fine. I open it up at university on the PC, all is fine. I maybe change some text on a slide and save it again. Open the same file again on my Mac, and it won't open some silly error comes up saying trouble accessing file from mac HD.

Then luckily I have keynote, so I just open it in that and use that.

Point is why does this happen?? Whilst keynote is better, sometimes I have to edit things on a PC at work or uni and then it becomes a giant mess on my mac.

Is there a quick fix, or will I have to throw Mac Office into my growing pile of Microsoft related garbage.

OS X :: Cannot Open And Save Excel Or PowerPoint Files

Sep 11, 2009

I cannot access or save exel or Powerpoint Files. I did restart the machine after every install. I also repaired the disc permissions but I had two messages come up:
1. SUID file " system/library/CoreS...as been modified and will not be repaired
2. SUID file " system/library/Private...as been modified and will not be repaired When I try and open an excel or PowerPoint file that already exists, a message pops up and says that "the file cannot be accessed".When I try and save a new file it says that several things could be wrong such as:I have installed and uninstalled so many times. I have called apple and they said its a Microsoft problem so they wouldn't help. I then called Microsoft and they wont help unless I purchase another copy. The copy I originally had got deleted during my reboot. I have no idea how to solve this problem. I need excel in order to do my schoolwork.

Applications :: Choosing A Version Of Excel, Powerpoint, Or Competitors?

Apr 12, 2009

I used to be a big fan of Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint, but I was using an old version of Office on a PC. Now I have migrated to Mac and gotten Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, and the new versions of Powerpoint and Excel are completely awful. What is causing all these problems? When were these problems introduced - 2008, 2004, or earlier? Are the Mac versions of Office simply worse than the PC versions? And most importantly: What version should I downgrade to? Should I be running Office in Windows under Fusion? Or should I ditch Microsoft entirely (which I would truly love to do) and start using some competing product for my slideshow and spreadsheet needs? Here are the problems I am having with the new versions, from most obnoxious to only moderately obnoxious:Excel:1. There is absolutely no way to make error bars derive their height from a column of data. Error bars must be a fixed size or a fixed percentage. This means it is totally impossible to do error bars that indicate the standard deviation, interquartile range, or 95% confidence interval. This feature was present in the old version of Excel, they simply removed it. Was Microsoft intentionally trying to make this software useless to scientists?

2. There is no way to select one column and call it the x-values and another column and call it the y-values (when making a chart). You have to select two columns at once, and Excel will guess which is which. And they better be neighboring columns, too.3. The chart options and formats menus/dialog boxes are completely different than they used to be, and much more restrictive. I can't find the tab where you enter the chart title, the axis titles, and check a box for whether you want a legend or not.4. All the charts are really incredibly ugly. They are full of shadows, bubbles, rounded edges, bevels, and bright colors. There is no way to make plain graphs.5. I can't get the page-break preview dotted lines to disappear. They are distracting, I don't want to see them.Powerpoint:1. Everything in Powerpoint is now hideously ugly, and you can't make it simple. The problems are similar to the aesthetic problems in Excel, but fifty times worse.Every table, every arrow, and every autoshape is now 3D, puffy, brightly colored, rounded on the edges, and has shadows and reflections of light on its metallic textured surface. You cannot make a normal black arrow, or a normal table made of straight, rectangular, black lines. You cannot make a plain red hexagon, it will look bubbly and metallic. I'm sure the people at Microsoft thought that simple things looked archaic and unsophisticated, but they completely failed to realize that you need to keep the simple option available. The new aesthetic that they impose on all Powerpoints looks completely childish, unprofessional, and silly.

2. When I open an old presentation (saved long ago with my PC), Powerpoint modifies the original file without warning, without asking, and there is no way to override it. I have to carefully make a copy of every .ppt presentation before I double click on it, because double clicking and letting Powerpoint do its horrific dark magic will irreparably change the file. That is not okay. On multiple occasions, I have had to use Time Machine to restore .ppt files that I accidentally opened without copying and Powerpoint then mangled. It changes the slide layouts so that arrows don't line up, pictures overflow the slide, tables turn ugly and colorful, fonts change size, and so on.

Both/All Office for Mac applications:1. Expose and Spaces do not work, there are lots of annoying bugs with window management in these programs.I have found a few things that I like, but I will gladly give them up for a good downgrade that addresses these problems:1. Powerpoint can now export as images really easily.2. Excel gives the syntax of every function in a pop-up box every time you type it. That is helpful. That's it. Good work, Microsoft. Your new versions created 8 big new problems that weren't present in the old versions, and you added 2 tiny features which I slightly appreciate. Please help. Advise. Suggest. What is the last version before these problems? Is there some way that I am not seeing to enter x- and y-data in Excel, or make things non-ugly in both?

Applications :: Powerpoint 2008 Can't Open .ppt Files?

Jan 22, 2009

My wife is in school and receives her lectures via powerpoint slides (.ppt). I think they are generated with a pre-2007 PC version of powerpoint. She cannot open this .ppt file with Office 2008 on leopard. Powerpoint there just says that the file was created with an older version of powerpoint and is no longer supported. Is it possible that Powerpoint no longer supports its own format?! Does anyone else have this problem? Are there ways around this? Does it seem ridiculous that we can't even open an older version of the file in a new program? I know there are programs to convert new files for older software versions, but not converting old files for newer software versions!

Applications :: Quicktime TIFF Decompressor Error In Powerpoint 2008 On A Mac?

Feb 13, 2009

As some of you may already know, I recently switched to the mac platform. One of my main reasons for switching was the fact that I couldn't see more than 50 percent of the graphics used by my colleagues and mentors in case presentations due to the dreaded "quicktime tiff decompressor" issues present in Windows. After numerous efforts of trying to resolve this issue on the Mac end, I gave up and ended up getting a Mac, to hopefully not experience the same issue. Obviously, I have realized that the mac has a lot more to offer, in the process.

However, here is my problem - I am getting the following error "Quicktime or a TIFF decompressor is needed to view this image" in Powerpoint 2008 in Mac OS X. I didn't expect this at all, and I was hoping that there may be a fix to it. I tried copying and pasting the image into word and that doesn't resolve the problem either. I tried opening up the presentation in Keynote 2009 but that doesn't seem to load these graphics either. Is there any photo application that I can use to test the picture? If any of you know how to resolve this issue, I will be very grateful for your advice. Again, I am new to the Mac OS platform so I would appreciate if your solutions included "baby steps"
