I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 and we got wifi at the house this afternoon. It will not connect, if I open network diagnostics the top four lights are green, internet and server are red. There are two other macbooks in the house(at least one also running 10.6.8) and two ipads, all of which connect with no problem.

It seems that every now and then my wifi will quit working. If I turn airport off and on it fixes it but I never had this problem in leopard.

I have an apple airport (age unknown), but it is one that looks like a mushroom cap. I have a network set up in WPA2 format. A nintendo DS user wishes to connect to wifi, but requires a WEP set up. Can I run both kinds of network or must a switch back and forth (since I like WPA2 more)?

I have read ways to do this, by turning the 'N' mode off etc. But i just want to find out more before i take the plunge into buying a xbox 360 and if you can do this with out changing from N mode. i have one of the latest 802.11n apple base station.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSince the latest update of OSX, I'm encountering trouble with my WiFi connection. My old sony laptop has no problem connecting, so I'm guessing the problem must be with the iMac, and not with the network. When I boot the mac, everything is OK, I get connected. But after a while (less then half an hour) it looses connection to internet. In the airport icon appears a " ! ". To get my mac back on the network, I have to reboot it. It's not a signal problem, my mac always finds the network, but it doesn't connect. My password is asked, I'm sure I entered it wright, but it's asked over and over, no connection possible. I tried changing DHCP to a fix IP, deleting the network and reconnect as if it's a new one, and little stuff like that, nothing helps. Only way is to reboot.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy email attachment in word was grayed out. I am very concerned that google chrome somehow changed my settings. I did not opt for google chrome or gmail to be my default email --- not ever! Yet when I opened up my email preferences, gmail was chosen. I had to shut down after I rechose Mail as my primary email. I found this link at Office: Mac. [URL]. Now everything is working again.

For wireless: [URL]. Click wireless basics. "For a WiFi network you need an apple Airport base station connected to your cable/dsl modem". Can't I just hook up a wireless router to my cable modem, and ta-da, WiFi.
View 18 Replies View RelatedPrinting from any program, Two-Sided Printing on the print prompt screen is grayed out. There's no reason for this, as my desktop Windows does double-sided all the time. I've found a lot of discussions in the Leopard forum about this problem, but none of them used my system or my printer and I couldn't find similar solutions. I'm running 10.6.8., trying to print from Chrome specifically, wirelessly connected to my printer.

Ever since i upgraded to Yosemite my iCloud has been messing up. It shows i’m signed in but won’t display further details like used & unused space in my quota. It also doesn’t let me set up family neither does it let me check or uncheck options. Everything is just greyed out even when i enter my iCloud password it stays the same; Nothing happens. Tried over and over for weeks now; No success. It won't sign out also. I think there's something wrong somewhere. I have Reset my Keychain so many times to no success.

I just bought a new iMac and moved all my data in from a Time Capsule. I frequently select "all images" and use the Quick Fixes option within Add Effect under the photos tab on the top left corner of the screen to run a batch process. But now when I try it all of the options are grayed out. I can highlight a couple of images and the option is available where normally running a batch is a non-issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAdmittedly, I'm one of the not-quite-thinking-straight early adopters of Snow Leopard. I performed an update install & everything went quite well (very fast boot times, etc.) However, my Photoshop CS3 has some weird things happening (all other CS3 apps work fine!). I can open, edit & save images with no probs. But, there are numerous menu options that are grayed out, like "File>Quit"!! In order to quit the app, I have to force quit every time. Also, several other commands in the Path window are grayed out. I have not tried reinstalling SL, since everything else is working perfectly.

I am using iPhoto 09 and have selected a photo album to put into a book and am going to the option called Book at the bottom of the screen and then the selection at the top for Book Type. I have options such as hard cover, soft cover, and wire-bound software. The problem is they are all greyed out. Why is this? Do I have to somehow install these themes or book types? I have a photo album I have put together that I want to send to Apple to print.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought my late 2011 iMac used from a good friend that barely used it. From day 1, the WiFi hasn't worked and I could never figure out why. It hasn't been a big deal until recently because I prefer a wired connection anyway.. The problem is that I moved into a house and the owner's wireless router is located in the living room.. So now I need to get it working again. After troubleshooting multiple times, here is some information that you will probably need to help me:
-When I open Network Diagnostics, the only two options available are Ethernet and Other. The External Modem and Wi-Fi options are grayed out and un-clickable.
-When I go to System Preferences>Network, the only things shown in the left sidebar are Ethernet, FireWire, and Bluetooth PAN. When I click the "+" button to add a network, under the "interface" dropdown, the options available are: FireWire, Ethernet, Bluetooth DUN, VPN, PPPoE, and 6 to 4 (no wi-fi obviously).
-Under System Report>Wi-Fi, everything appears to be installed and running correctly. I'm not an expert on Wireless settings, but it seems right. If a screenshot is needed of that, just ask.

I launched Mail as I ordinarily do. It opened up, but the header bar was grayed out. Finally I managed to open program via Message/Go To/ Inbox, but no messages appeared in any of my mailboxes (even though I had several still in there from today). Nothing is happening, I even can't quit teh mail program.

In the process of doing clean install from tiger to leopard and I'm running into some issue. 1st attempt - was stuck on initial "Install" screen (After I erased my HD and selected drive to install but before the Install screen changes to show the status of the install remaining) for 35 minutes. I stopped the install and restated.2nd attempt - Finally got to the progress bar, 28 minutes remaining. However, it didn't move from there. I checked the Installer Log and it kept trying to install printer drivers and foreign fonts, but unsuccessful. Finally got an error message stating install was not complete. Restart.3rd. attempt - This time I unchecked printer drivers and fonts. Progress bar stated 18 minutes, now it's down to 17 (after like 10 minutes) and according to the Installer Log I keep getting errors in stuff (Error writing caches to /Volume/...., Input/output error, Failed to enumerate /Volumes/...., Cannot prune("com.apple.user*pictureCache*"). However, according to the progress bar, it keeps moving through the processes, still show 18 minutes now.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWith Snow Leopard being so much smaller and lighter than previous versions of OS X are there still things to cleanup after a new install? Do programs like XSlimmer still do much? If there are still things to do, are there programs updates for Snow Leopard to automate this?

A clean installation took about 13 minutes from start to finish, which is a world of difference from the hour or so that a clean 10.5 Leopard install takes. Other then the time involved, there are very few differences between the 10.5 and 10.6 installation processes at this time.Once you're up and running, it feels very similar to Leopard. I don't know how much this will change through Snow Leopard's development, but don't expect a terribly different interface. The subtle changes to the current Aqua definitely look good though.
View 24 Replies View RelatedJust recently I've noticed this more than before... If I open a new tab, almost every time I'll get a spinning pinwheel for about 5-10 seconds, then it'll start responding again. Sometimes it'll do it for other things too, but for the most part its opening new tabs.

View 15 Replies View RelatedIn iTunes when I right click on a song and click "get info", then change some info, it doesn't stick. It goes right back to what I already had in there before. I then realized that this is because every file inside my iTunes music folder is set for "read only" and not "read & write". So after I change it to "read & write" all changes I make in iTunes will take. However, I have a lot of music and therefore a lot of files inside my iTunes music folder. Going into each and every folder to change its permission to "read & write" would be tedious and time consuming,
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have three Internet Connect modem port configurations. If I bring up the Edit Configurations sheet two of the configurations are grayed out when I select each. So is the "-" for deleting them.I originally had two configurations. I can't recall now whether they were grayed out at that point since I didn't notice this until after I created the third. The third one I created is not grayed and can be edited, deleted, etc.I believe the plists for Internet Connect are com.apple.internetconnect.plist and maybeom.apple.internetconfig.plist, com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist,andinyHost/com.apple.networkConnect.MAC.plist (where MAC is my MAC address). But I am hesitant to delete these since I think one of them holds the filename extension helper associations which I prefer not to loose.
Finally, the Network System Preferences for the modem port reiterates at least one of the configurations I have in Internet Connect. But that's because I entered the same information there. I don't think there's a explicit connection between the Network System Preferences and Internet Connect which would cause Internet Connect to gray out the configurations. And if there were that might explain one being grayed out but not two. However, the Modem tab in the Network System Preferences for the modem port does have the "Show modem status in the menu bar" and when checked that menu does show all the Internet Connect configurations as choices. So there is some connection(s) between the Network System Preferences and Internet Connect.
Tiger to Snow Leopard and then found out I had lost my connection to the Netgear WGPS606 Print server that for years has served me flawlessly to use my HP Photosmart 8100 printer. Apparently it has something to do with Apple having removed support for Appletalk (???) Searching the web and Netgears website I can only find the instructions for Tiger, which I already had back when I first set up the print server.
