OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Why Long Delays In Receiving Email Using IMAP
Mar 14, 2012
I'm using Mac mail. I have a hotmail acct that I use MBOX mail as a go-between between it and Mac Mail so I can use IMAP and get me hotmail folders etc. It's working great escept for the fact that sometimes there are long delays where I don't receive emails that are coming in. Sometime not even when I click "get mail." I have to right click on the account and click "get info." That will start showing all the data on the account and usually bring in the new emails that have been sitting there for a while.
I have a mobileme account with a further 3 names added using mail only. Because of legacy I cannot move to OS Lion at the moment. Can we still use our mac.com/me.com email addresses after June without signing up to icloud. If one or more of the email only account holders update to Lion and icloud, can they transfer their emai accounts without the main account holder doing so. If we all have other apple devices ie iphone and ipads, and sign up to icloud, can we then use our mobile me mail addresses also on our OS Leopard macs.

My Mac OS X 10.6.8 Safari must have some sort of virus. It is sending messages to everyone in my address book without my knowledge. What is happening? How can I stop it?
All of a sudden yesterday I stopped receiving any emails. I could hear the message alert that one had come in but there was nothing in the mailbox.
I spent much time with the ISP and they say its an Apple problem. All settings appear to be correct and I can't figure out where those emails have gone. I have an iMac G4, OS 10.5.8
I have tried to send the email multiple times but it won't send. On the connection doctor it says that logging in to the SMTP account failed and I have to verify that the username and password are correct.

I am trying to verify my new apple id. I have ensured that my email address is correct, and have gotten the notification, both from the Ipad and from a desktop that a verification email has been sent. But I have never received one. I would really like to be able to utilize this for work.
I have just updated my mac to lion, but unable to verify my apple ID, so that i can get onto iCloud. but i used apple id to pay for lion so i know that the email and password are correct
Not sure why this is happening, but I'm not getting all emails on iPhones and iPads. I've had several emails addressed to my me.com address that show up on my iMac and MacBook, but never show up on our iPhones or iPads. This applies only to my me.com stuff. Even an iTunes marketing email doesn't show up on my iPhone. Â
I just transitioned to iCould last week and that's when it started. All devices were converted to iCloud and the iMac and MacBook are set up as IMAP accounts.Â

Is anyone else having problems with the email? I am not receiving any emails, nor can I send anything out. Spent 30 minutes on online chat last night with someone most unhelpful, only to be told that the reason I'm not receiving anything is because my email is being forwarded to another address. I set my preferences to do that several years ago when this mac.com/me.com server began having so many issues, to ensure I was receiving email so I could check from my other address. The only comment I got was well, we no longer support 10.4.1 so there isn't anything we can do to help you. The status update says 33% of their customers are unable to migrate. So I'm pretty sure I'm not alone and that is a pretty large base of customers to no longer provide support to. Is anyone else who has not migrated to iCloud experiencing these email problems? Currently my iDisk works to transfer my larger files, but my email does not.
I am receiving emails every time my wife makes a change to her calendar which I am subscibed to. This did not happen before we recently upgraded our phone software, maybe thats involved, maybe not. I have checked and it appeears all of the boxes are unchecked that say "send email when there's a change". She is making the changes on her Macbook Pro.
I'm using mail 2.1.3 on a G4 powerbook running Mac os 10.4.11. I've switched mail servers today, and all my email addresses are now imap instead of pop. That meant I had to create new email accounts in mail, and as I did, I deleted the old ones, as I would no longer need them. Unfortunately, All of my email seems to have gone with all the old pop accounts. Did I just lose all my email??? I really need to get some of it back, its been a few months since I last backed up. I did have all of my accounts set to not delete trash for 30 days, so I'm hoping its still some where. Am I screwed? Why would Apple not warn me heavily before doing something BIG like deleting all of my email?
In previous OS Mail I could bounce rubbish straight back to originator, and in most cases it stopped completely, but Lion has nothing! It is emasculated!Junk mail is limited and does not apply the filters I set to divert such email to 'Trash', the soft option Apple has settled for. Why has Apple removed Bounce feature since people like myself are plagued with 10 to 20 rubbish mails every day for 'Undisclosed Recepients'?
I consider myself pretty savvy and this problem arose when I tried to add my school's email to Mail.app... I took my computer into the Apple store and they were unsuccessful after about an hour of trying.
Now, I've read on Titan Apps (the section on the CSUF school portal) that you have to create a password solely for POP/IMAP access, and I did that, and I made a new Mail account with the new settings and I'm still receiving errors about the password not being right to get new mail.
I have an IMAP email account that's over a decade old. It's going away soon so I'm trying to figure out how to get a complete local copy of all that email. There are a total of around 100 folders with anywhere from 5 to over 2000 emails in each folder.
The problem: there's email on the server that isn't showing up in Mail. For instance one folder (according to the webmail interface) has 771 messages. Mail says that folder has 700 messages.Looking at the webmail interface I can easily find several of the 71 emails that are not appearing in Mail. In Mail, if I select the folder and "Get Account Info" and look at the Quotas section, it lists the correct number of email messages (771). If I rebuild the folder, as it's being rebuilt the blue progress bar at the bottom left of Mail says there are 771 incoming messages. But when it's done, I can only see 700.
I just double checked on a second computer (MacBook Pro, also latest 10.7 version & Mail) and it's the same there, it only sees 700 messages. Now, repeat this times the roughly 100 folders .What's going on here? Why isn't Mail downloading or displaying these emails?
I have set up IMAP accounts on my iphone, MacBook Pro and IPad 3 but cannot get it set up on my iMac. It appears as an account but will not connect and receive messages.
My mail program has stopped receiving mail from the server, Cincinnati Bell, zoomtown. I have had numerous weird sent items that come back as undeliverable to people not in my contacts. When i try to log in it tells me that my password is incorrect. I tried to check on webmail and CB is saying they have locked my account for suspicous activity and i should remove the " virus" and they will reopen my account. I thought that macs did not get viruses.Â
I use IMAP email so that all folders are based on a server, rather than on my computer (learnt the hard way when my computer crashed and I lost everything). Today when I went to save an email in a folder on entourage, entourage crashed and when I reloaded the app the folder had gone. I tried again with another email and another folder and the same thing happened. When I log on to my email account using the providers webmail service I can see that the folder is still there, it just won't show up in entourage.

I can receive but cannot send IMAP email on my 1&1 mail account from Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite Mail on my new Macbook Pro. The account is set up the same port, password, username, server name as on my old Macbook and emails are sending just fine on the old computer.Â
When I hit send on the new Macbook Pro running Yosemite I get this message: "The connection to host ... on port 993 failed. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."It shows the server as (offline)I've tried erasing and typing in the password. I've tried both checking and unchecking Automatically detect and maintain account settings. Still cannot send. I also have a Gmail account and it is working...
I'm using Mail with a gmail IMAP account. Recently a friend sent me an email with an Excel workbook attached, but the attachment didn't show up in Mail (no attachment in the message, no paperclip icon indicating an attachment in the Inbox). The really strange part is that if I go into my gmail account using a browser, the attachment is there. I received several other similar attachments from other people, and all those attachments showed up in Mail.
I accidentally set up an email account using IMAP.I meant to use POP.I have deleted the account and have attempted to set the account up again but it now automatically uses IMAP and does not give me the option to chose POP.Using a brand new Imac using as my macbook just died. Latest software etc.
I am currently using Apple Mail on Lion with IMAP enabled for emails. A couple of times I have had only part of an email downloaded. The full email is viewable on the iPhone and through a web browser. Is there anyway to resync an email to have it finish loading the message and attachments? I have tried to Sync the full Apple Mail program but the email did not change. I am assuming this problem is occurring when the internet loses the connection.
I have two email accounts (IMAP) on my Mail App on MacBook and even though I configured it to sync manually it still does sync by itself each time I get a new message. How I can put it to really sync manually. Â
In Mail, when you add an account, why does it take so ridiculously long to verify with no way to skip verification? At first I thought this was just my system but I've now had a friend ask me why it's so slow (took 17 minutes) and he's on a different ISP and everything. This means that 100% of the computers I've seen take an unacceptably long time to verify the account. This problem only appears to affect Apple Mail. I find it hard to believe that Apple could release something this bad, so I have two questions:
