Intel Mac :: Only Part Of Email Downloaded In Apple Mail (IMAP Enabled)
Jun 20, 2012
I am currently using Apple Mail on Lion with IMAP enabled for emails. A couple of times I have had only part of an email downloaded. The full email is viewable on the iPhone and through a web browser. Is there anyway to resync an email to have it finish loading the message and attachments? I have tried to Sync the full Apple Mail program but the email did not change. I am assuming this problem is occurring when the internet loses the connection.

I have an IMAP email account that's over a decade old. It's going away soon so I'm trying to figure out how to get a complete local copy of all that email. There are a total of around 100 folders with anywhere from 5 to over 2000 emails in each folder.
The problem: there's email on the server that isn't showing up in Mail. For instance one folder (according to the webmail interface) has 771 messages. Mail says that folder has 700 messages.Looking at the webmail interface I can easily find several of the 71 emails that are not appearing in Mail. In Mail, if I select the folder and "Get Account Info" and look at the Quotas section, it lists the correct number of email messages (771). If I rebuild the folder, as it's being rebuilt the blue progress bar at the bottom left of Mail says there are 771 incoming messages. But when it's done, I can only see 700.
I just double checked on a second computer (MacBook Pro, also latest 10.7 version & Mail) and it's the same there, it only sees 700 messages. Now, repeat this times the roughly 100 folders .What's going on here? Why isn't Mail downloading or displaying these emails?

I can receive but cannot send IMAP email on my 1&1 mail account from Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite Mail on my new Macbook Pro. The account is set up the same port, password, username, server name as on my old Macbook and emails are sending just fine on the old computer.Â
When I hit send on the new Macbook Pro running Yosemite I get this message: "The connection to host ... on port 993 failed. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."It shows the server as (offline)I've tried erasing and typing in the password. I've tried both checking and unchecking Automatically detect and maintain account settings. Still cannot send. I also have a Gmail account and it is working...

Having some trouble moving some of our accounts to IMAP.
Some people have very large accounts and we keep getting the error 143 time out message. Unless i sit there for hours and keep pressing the "Get Mail" button.
Is there a way around this and why does it keep timing out?

I am a new MAC owner and looking for ways to stream pictures, music from my IMAC to my Sony Internet TV. The Internet TV is wired to the home network by way of ethernet. However----when I go to photos or music on the internet TV it doesn't seem to be able to find the IMAC---just my router. Can this be done without an Apple TV?Â

I've always struggled with Mail. I blame my confusion from going from Pop to IMAP. POP was simpler. Mail sat on server. When you used a POP connection mail moved from server to your computer. Imap is harder. Anyone have a good description (or link) on how imap works?
Here are my questions:
1. If you don't have a .mac account is there an easy way to keep Apple's Mail synched up on two machines? Is it as easy as keeping your mail folders (library) and apple mail plist file (preferences) synched up using a synch program?
2. When you open mail, with imap accounts it automatically goes to your account servers and seems to synch up the online version to what is on your computer. Launch Mail and in the activity window all sorts of things happen such as "synchronizing with server". This is before you tell Mail to "get mail". I'm wondering if the "get mail" is what puts a copy of emails on your computer or does just opening Mail with imap accounts do this?
3. If I had my choice, and mostly I do just use Google Mail online. However I want to have electronic copies of my emails for the day that the online cloud evaporates. Any easy way to accomplish this? I know there is something called G-Mail backup, but I wonder about it's functionality if I ever really had to rely on it. As of right now I'm using Mail for this purpose. Maybe Mail is the easiest way?

I'm trying to use Apple Mail with a Gmail IMAP account but I'm about to give up. I used exactly the same settings suggested on the gmail site but the service works very bad. Messages take forever to download, often I click on them and the preview window starts spinning. It also hangs frequently while synching or caching and I have to do a force quit. Is somebody using this in a profitable way?

for those of you using gmail with imap know, read and unread status's do not update for some reason w/out turning mail off then back on. i recently purchased a new (to me) intel macbook with snow leopard 10.6 and used mobileme to sync my mail accounts. what i noticed to my pleasant surprise is that my iphone, macbook, and gmail are all in perfect sync, BUT the g4 powermac with leopard and apple mail 3.6 still has a problem. is there any updates coming out, i find it hard to believe with the leopard updates still coming out they still haven't addressed this issue. are those of you with snow leopard experiencing the same perfect syncs with gmail read/unread status?

Installed Growl and GrowlMail today. Anyway, my gmail is configured with custom labels, which IMAP detects as "folders". For example, any time my gmail account gets a facebook mail, it labels the message as "Facebook". This is great, but GrowlMail shows TWO Growl messages. One for the message coming into "Inbox" and another to the message coming into the "Facebook" folder. This is my theory. Otherwise, I have no idea why I'm seeing multiple Growl alerts for emails that are moved/labeled.

I recently set up Apple Mail with a new account, this new account is an IMAP account for school. The school has a bunch of public folders set up and I really don't want those public e-mails to be contributing to my "new mail" count or downloading to my computer AT ALL.
I searched the Mail help menu and it says that you can control which folders you can subscribe to by going into the "Get Account Info..." menu. However, when I got to the "Subscriptions" tab, none of the folders load. It's just an empty list.

I have my Apple Mail configured for use with my Gmail IMAP account but I have a problem. From the Apple Mail app, I can not see messages that were sent while in the web version of Gmail. To me, if I have it configured via IMAP, anything I do on my phone, I should see on my mac. Anything I do on my mac, I should see anywhere from the web app. Am I doing something wrong? Can YOU see messages you sent through the web portal, on your Apple Mail app?

I use IMAP email so that all folders are based on a server, rather than on my computer (learnt the hard way when my computer crashed and I lost everything). Today when I went to save an email in a folder on entourage, entourage crashed and when I reloaded the app the folder had gone. I tried again with another email and another folder and the same thing happened. When I log on to my email account using the providers webmail service I can see that the folder is still there, it just won't show up in entourage.

So I've finally gone ahead and configured my Apple Mail (on Leopard) with Gmail's IMAP. First, I must say I wasn't very impressed at Apple Mail's interface. It's minimalistic (which is a good thing) but lacks the aesthetic appeal, and the ability to easily browse through and view messages. At work I use Microsoft's Entourage, and I've gotta say, it's a lot easier to use (from a user-interface standpoint). Maybe it's because my messages appear in a column to the left and are twice as high, whereas Apple Mail's are only as high as one line of text. In any case, I've set my Apple Mail according to the directions (and tips) outlined here: http://5thirtyone.com/archives/862 Then, yesterday I began to notice that messages in my inbox (which I've read) still showed up as unread in my Trash (which is in-effect the "All Mail" folder). So I've gone ahead and checked my user/library/mail folder, and it clocks in at 4.8GB! Strangely, when I log-in to Gmail (on the web), it only shows me as using 1.7GB of the 5GB quota. Is Apple Mail keeping duplicate copies of my messages in its Inbox / Sent / Trash folders? This would certainly be the case. Can anyone offer some explanation please?

I have the newest version of Apple Mail and I am syncing it with an IMAP account. Everything works fine so far. I had to delete all my mails on the provider server because I reached the storage limit. So I saved all my mails on my mac from the apple mail first and then I deleted all my mails on the server. After deleting all mails on the server, I putted back my old mails into APPLE MAIL, but it immediately deleted all my mails in APPLE MAIL after syncing with the server. So my question. How can I place my old mails back into APPLE MAIL without it deleting my local mails when it is syncing with the server?

Can anyone tell me how to correctly configure Apple Mail (Leopard) with Gmail IMAP so that you dont have to keep a duplicate of all emails from the All Mail folder on my local drive? Basically, when Mail syncs, it downloads all messages, then it downloads them again because they reside in the All Mail folder in Gmails web interface. Any suggestions would be appreciated as this takes up twice the amount of space that it should.

Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard and using Apple Mail, I have been getting the following error after a day or so of use: "Account exceeded bandwidth limits." Eventually I am able to access GMail via IMAP with Apple Mail, but only for about a day before this error occurs again. This doesn't affect my access to GMail via the web interface. Nothing has changed with my use of GMail since before the Snow Leopard upgrade and I've seen scattered reports of this on the 'net, but nothing that nails down a solid connection between the Snow Leopard upgrade and this error.

I use Apple Mail with gmail IMAP, everything works fine, except that when I start typing an e-mail address I don't get auto-complete. It's driving me insane, so I heard there was this thing called LDAP, that could be able to achieve this ?

I know i am not the only one w/this problem but i wanted to post and see if anyone has found a solution of if there has been an update. i googled around today to no avail. issue: gmail imap read status does not update in apple mail until its restarted. If i read an email on my iphone, it will show as read in iphone mail, gmail web interface, but NOT apple mail unless its been restarted. if the email is read in apple mail, the gmail interface will show it as read, as will the iphone. surely apple is aware of the issue? has this been fixed in snow leopard? anyone discovered any work arrounds? feel free to post here, even if you have no answers, you just happen to also suffer from this "affliction"

Any Users of Apple Mail with HUGE Gmail IMAP accounts? I'm switching to Apple Mail and am wondering if it will work with a Gmail IMAP account of 8 GIG and 80 folders? Is this even worth trying to setup or will it just crash? 1. Will it freak out during sync and give me the "too many simultaneous connections" error? 2. Is it fast enough with such a huge IMAP folder or does it crawl?

I have been working quite happily with Mail and an imap gmail account for a couple of years until recently. Now I can no longer send attachments and if I try to forward an email that has a bit going on in it like a group-on email or something similar it won't send that either. I get a message Cannot send message using the server [URL]:(my emailaddress)[URL]Sending the message content to the server failed I have searched for answers all over the net, have tried google help pages that suggest I remove my email address from the outgoing server details but NOTHING works. Today I finally gave up on Apple Mail and tried entourage - same result in that I couldn't send anything with attachements but a different error message.Â
I hadn't changed anything when it stopped working and it can't be the settings because every now and then I get an attachment through. There is lots on the net but I haven't found anything that works or all the stuff I am reading is really old. and also, just to finally drive me over the edge I got sent an email with an attachment today that didn't come through onto my mac. If I go onto gmail via safari there is my attachment. In Mail, it doesn't even give me a hint that it's there

I'm running mail (Version 7.3 (1878.2)). For some reason that I cannot fathom, imap accounts stopped working on June 10 or so.Â
I can fix this by setting the imap server to the ip address of the server, rather than its name.Â
I can confirm that the name is properly resolved to the address in terminal.Â
I'm using my own imap cyrus imap server

i was using Apple mail 3.0 successfully on my old MBP which was running Leopard. I used POP to access and use my gmail account. I upgraded to a newer MBP but now am running snow leopard and apple mail 4.0 Unfortunately the migration assistant failed to bring across my data to the new computer and had to do it manually. I was unsuccessful in getting Mail 4.0 to set up a POP account for gmail as I had done with the older operating system's version of Mail.
I was successful with setting up IMAP (which i like less for specific reasons that I wont go into). However, even with following gmail's on line instructions, the sending of mails is temperamental. Sometimes emails get send, but almost always they sit in the "outbox" for minutes or hours, and it seems to be quite random as to when the emails are successfully sent. I cannot understand this. Usually the sending fails several times where it gives me the option to "try again" which I usually chose. I have SSL checked and am using port 933. I am using smpt.gmail.com:username@gmail.com has anybody else had similar difficulties and were they able to overcome them

I am having a very difficult time setting up my Google apps IMAP e-mail account to work correctly with Apple Mail 3.0, as well as with my Apple iPhone, and I was hoping that somebody could please help me get this figured out once and for all. I have followed all of the Google apps IMAP e-mail setup instructions to properly configure your IMAP e-mail clients, but despite this I am still having problems getting everything working properly. I'm currently using an iPhone with firmware version 1.1.4, and I have manually configured my Gmail account on my phone. I mention this because Google has clearly specified that there are different instructions for handling the proper deletion/archiving of e-mail messages depending on which version of the firmware you are using. My main problem has to do with properly mapping my IMAP labels, with the corresponding Apple Mail 3.0 folders and the folders on my iPhone. I havve searched for the answer to my questions repeatedly on the Internet, but most of the articles and blog posts that I have find that describe the the proper methods of setting things up correctly were either originally posted before the recent Gmail IMAP implementation, or before Gmail version 2.0 became available (or before things changed with version 1.1 .3 of the iPhone firmware). Needless to say, it's been difficult to find a relevant article that applies to the current scenario under which I am trying to set things up.......
