I am switching from windows 7 to a powermac g5 with 10.5.8. I copied all my libraries from widnows 7 (photos,music,videos,documents) into my external drive. However the folders have a locked icon when I view it from osx. My drive is formatted in ntfs if that matters.
View 1 RepliesI bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. When I went to access my folders on my external HD, the folders are all locked, with Sharing and Permission section in the Information "Everyone: Read" only! I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and "read only." I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to "Read & Write." Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to "Read & Write" easily??

Today, all of a sudden, all my files and folders are locked in place wherever they may be - on the desktop, in the documents folder, everywhere. I can't drag them anywhere. They're stuck.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought my MacBook Pro last year. It shipped with Snow Leopard. Since then I have been using File Vault, and within my Library folder, I had one main folder, a sub folder, and a sub-sub folder locked. Never had any problems accessing those folders. Yesterday, I upgraded to Lion and now the "Library" folder does not even show up and is unsearchable.
I tried turning off the Legacy File Vault and it required more disk space than I had available on the main hard drive, so I cloned the HD onto my LaCie 4TB Thunderbolt drive, making a bootable drive, re-booted from LaCie, and de-crypted it on there. This did not make my folder re-appear.Do I need to revert to Snow Leopard in order to see that folder again? De-crypt and then upgrade to Lion?

When I open a new folder and the same again, it shows 2 different folders in 2 different windows. Id like to see only 1 folder, previous folder would be replaced with the new folder. Im awared that there is an option to choose either you want the folder to be replaced or to show all folders in a new window. That setting isn't working for me for some reason. Anyone here with similar problem? What's the solution?

Every time Parallels 5 adds/removes Windows application folders from the Dock, my JAR files that are docked also get removed. This is obviously a bug, but I'm not sure which is to blame.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use an external hard drive for Time Machine backups and to store some larger video files in a folder called Videos. The Videos folder on the external drive is now locked and I can't unlock it. I go to Get Info, hit the lock icon and enter my password, but the "Locked" checkbox is greyed out in the General section. In the Sharing and Permissions section, instead of displaying my name, it says "Fetching . . ." and I can't change the Privilege from "Write Only".

I have little to no knowledge of the compatibility of the Macmini to a PC. I currently own a 4 yr old HP Pavilion. There's not much wrong with it, it's slowed a little, but my husband and I have been wanting a Mac. We saw the Mac mini and like what we see, but we don't want to have to buy a new printer and monitor when both work perfectly. The monitor is an HP vs15 and the printer is a HP Photosmart USB. Will these work if we buy the Mac mini?

I can't seem to edit any pictures with Preview anymore since I upgraded to Lion. Every time I try to save an image after resizing or whatever, it says the file is locked. If I check the info of the file the "locked" checkmark is unchecked. And I have all the permissions to the file. Tried everything, switched the "lock after 2 weeks" thing of in Time Machine (even though tha would probably not help: images I took today are still "locked" in Preview), tried copying them and then saving them, and tried to lock them and then unlock them, but I can't seem to edit and save them.

The title is pretty simple, and self explanatory. Will the HD Graphics/330M combo, or the 9400M/9600M GT ever be able to switch back and forth in Windows? And regardless of if it's possible, what is the limitation, drivers, other software, or a physical hardware limitation? It would be a nice way to get more battery life out of Bootcamp.

Ok, so the charger port on my computer eats up every charger that I plug into it. Instead of constantly taking my laptop apart and having to replace the DC jack every week or so , i want to buy a mac mini. View 8 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine currently runs CS4 on a 2GB Windows Vista PC and he is thinking about switching to a new Imac. He has never used Mac OS before and is a bit reluctant to ditch Windows completely. As far as I can see he has a few options, such as using Bootcamp or swapping his Windows version of CS4 for the Mac version.
But I saw a programme called Parallels Switch to Mac which is supposed to migrate his existing Windows set up onto a new Mac.This looks like a good compromise to me, but does anybody run CS4 using Parallels? If so, are there any known issues and does it run at a reasonable speed.
My wife is having some issues with her new MacBook and MS Word...
While having multiple windows open she uses expose to switch between them. About 1/3 of the time she clicks on a window, it appears for 1/2 a second, then her original window appears. This makes it very difficult for her to navigate the windows she has open.
There have also been a few times where one word window appears over her current window.
i installed a win 7 on my macbook using boot camp 3.1 and when i switch the screen from mac to win 7 i have no internet in windows, but if i restart pc and choose to start first from Windows everything is working perfect, do somebody knows how to fix it?

I cannot un-lock from either the Mac or Windows side.
View 8 Replies View RelatedGetting a message within photoshop that files cannot be saved as they are locked. I check the same files with 'Get Info' and the locked file box is unchecked. I have changed file permissions on the entire disc so that everyone can read/write but still the same message. Tried terminal command to uncheck flags also to no avail. I can do save as but a little frustrating. Is there a workaround to get all my files back onside?
This is a new disc that I may have installed without due care to permissions/ownership when I formatted it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMBP 2006 2.0 with SL 10.6 started acting goofy over the weekend, so I C booted SL install disc and reinstalled. Machine now runs fine and all my stuff is still here, but I am no longer an Administrator and can't get it to boot from C drive or let me into Restart/SL, as I'm not an administrator. So I can't use the disc drive or change anything.
I'm the original/only owner and have never entered an Administrator password anywhere, just my login as a user. Is there a way to get it to allow the disc in so I can clear up the passwords?
I'm the admin on my Macbook and after I restarted it earlier am essentially locked out of everything on my HD save for the Applications folder. I keep getting the error "The folder "Documents" can't be opened because you don't have the permission to see its contents" and would like to regain access to it as I have not backed up my stuff in about a month because of a Time Machine issue.
I don't know if it's related to this but all the prefernces have been changed to default and cannot change them in system prefrences.
I'd just like to get my stuff back and am fine with a clean install. I have access to 3 external drives: a 1 TB FW400 which stores my backups, a 120GB FW400 other external, and a 2TB USB one. Could it be possible to install OS X on the 120, boot from there, copy everything on the Macbook's disk to the 2TB, and then restore from a much earlier Time Machine backup on the 1TB once OS X is sucessfully reinstalled?
Alternativly is there a simple terminal command I can use?

I have tried to install leopard on my Macbook Pro. It just takes me to the gray boot screen with the apple logo in the center and the circle status bars. It won't leave this screen. Stayed there all last night. Every time I reboot it goes here and won't advance. I can't eject the disk either.

Is there a work around how can preview save a locked JPG file? PNG's can do a save as in preview even if is locked.

the reason why i want to find out is because outlook saves their attachment files locked and if i open them in preview, i cannot do a save as on JPGs.
i have not tried any other image viewer to automatically open the attachments and save them. PNG attachements behave alright so why can't JPGs?
