I've had an issue with Word 2011 twice now, where it'll lose some of the shortcut keys, for example Cmd-V won't paste and Cmd-A won't select all. In both cases I've been able to resolve this issue by deleting the Microsoft User Data folder.
I don't have any third-party addons or anything, and have never tried to customise the shortcut keys. I've updated to 14.0.1 and seen the issue since, so it wasn't fixed by that update.
I have a macbook air and use word, my laptop does not have a page up/down key is there a short-cut to do this in Word?

But I have to send all these recently create pages doc in a word format to someone and so I did the Save as Word option.When I opened the Word file in Word all the text formatting went all over the place, it looked like it put extra tabs in there and there is a split down the middle of the text like it has put it in two columns.
Is there any way to ensure that when I create my pages document that the formatting is agreeable with word.
I have created a document that has a few check boxes in Word 2010 on a PC. On the PC, if you click on the empty check box, it will become 'checked' which is what I want. When I use the same document on Word 2011 on the Mac, it doesn't seem to have the same functionality.

In 2008, there was a file in the Contents-->Resources folder called "Page Layout View Background Rest" that you could replace with any image and the background would change (by 'background', I mean the actual grey color on each side of the word document, not the background of the document itself).

i.e. in Windows, to go to the File menu you press ALT + F or for the edit menu you press ALT + E.
After hearing the Mac startup tone normally if you hold down C it will boot from the Mac Install/Recovery disc or if you press cmd+option+P+R it will reset the PRAM or cmd+option+V should show the unix style boot up sequence.
None of these shortcuts seem to be working on my Mac and it boots straight into Mac OS 10.5, why there not working and how I can get these startup shortcuts working again?
So basically, my down arrow key popped off and I don't have time to go the Apple store for the next couple of weeks. I'm looking for some application that will let me set a key (or multitude of keys) to replace down. I tried looking online, but I could only find applications that let you launch applications or whatnot with shortcuts, but not just replace another key. Update: Well after looking even more, I found that Keyboard Maestro does what I want.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just migrated from Lion on an old MacBook series 2007 to a MacBook Air. Yesterday, I opened up a grading file in Excel 2011, entered grades, saved the file (NOT Save As - just Save) handed back the assignments to my students - and then went to reopen the file later, and all of my changes were gone. I made more changes, Saved, just opened the file again, and they aren't there. To experiment, I opened the file just now, wrote in a silly comment on the top line, saved, reopened without quitting excel - and the changes aren't there.
A temporary work-around is that I can do a Save As every time I make changes, but that's ridiculous - I'm often updating a file and need the changes to be there. I just tried this with Word as well and I'm having the same problem - some Saved changes are there, some are not.
MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 (Mavericks 10.9.4); 4 GB ram. I am running HDMI to a new video projector. The HDMI signal is lost periodically for about 1-2 seconds and then comes back. It occurs about every 5-7 minutes (about 20 times during a 50 minute lecture). It loses both video and audio. Screen goes black but no displayed messages. I have read a variety of other posts with similar symptoms with various computers (e.g. Mac mini) and even with DVI cable use. In my case, I've used two different HDMI adaptors so it's not the adaptor. I'm pretty sure it's not the HDMI cable itself. (A fellow professor does not have the issue with his PC and he uses the same equipment.) Neither the computer nor the cable is touched. (I have another colleague who reports the same symptoms in his music lab.) Bottom line is that it's a distraction to my students and it's occurring off different Macs in different locations. This means to me that it may be something with the particular generation of Macs we're using.Â

Whenever I assign shortcut keys to Spaces using the Expose' & Spaces panel in System Preferences, it seems that in a day or two the shortcut keys no longer work and System Preferences shows them as being unassigned. I thought there may be a conflict with another shortcut but there isn't - at least according to the Keyboard & Mouse panel in System Preferences. This happens on both my MBP and my iMac as well as on the PowerMac I recently sold. I've tried other keys and combinations but with the same results. I've also experienced this in all versions of Leopard including the current 10.5.7. I'm using F8 to activate Spaces, Command + Option + Arrow key to switch between Spaces and Command + Option + Number key to switch directly to a Space. Has anyone else experienced this?

Recently (I think it was after a MacOS update but I'm not sure) my brightness and volume keys stopped working on my 2011 13" MacBook Air running MacOS 10.9.4. The F keys still work i.e. if I press Fn-F10, I get the expected effect from pressing F10, but if I just press F10, volume remains unchanged (should get muted). Mission Control, Launchpad, and media keys (rewind, play/pause, ff) all work.Â
Using Karabiner, I checked to make sure the keys generate correct events. They do. Pressing the brightness keys generates 0x3 and 0x2. Pressing the volume keys generates 0x7, 0x1, and 0x0, which are the expected key codes defined in ev_keymap.h, the header file for HID. I can also adjust volume and brightness using the sliders in the appropriate section of "System Preferences."Â
So volume and brightness itself can be changed. They keyboard keys themselves work and produce correct keycodes. But whatever operating system feature (HID?) that is supposed to read the keyboard input and translate it into commands to the display and sound drivers doesn't work.Â
I've tried all the obvious stuff (restart, safe mode, toggle the Function key option in System Preferences->Keyboard). I've reset SMC and PRAM. Nothing has worked so far. Â
The only other thing I can think of is that a while back (before this problem started occuring) I got annoyed by the power button in the top-right corner of the keyboard, which I would occasionally hit accidentally. I searched for a way to disable it, and I think I found something -- now it only does something if it's held for 2 seconds. A quick up-down strike does not do anything. Perhaps in tweaking some setting to achieve this behavior (I don't remember what I did), I screwed up something with the brightness/volume keys, but this screw up only became evident later.Â

found it crashes every time I try to print or save a PDF version of my work. It's running on a Macbook pro under OSX 10.6.5, and printing to a Canon MP 150 connected to my G5 running under OSX 10.4.11. Pages prints just fine from the Macbook using the remote connection, so what the? Saw a post that talked about font weeding, which I then checked out, & found & deleted some duplicate fonts, but it didnt .

I find it a pain to have to go to "Window," find a document, opn it, then go back to "Window" to where I was originally.
I've bene playing around with Scrivener and I really like how it lines up documents on the left and then you can import them into a split screen. Does Word 2011 have anything like this?
When I tried to save a word file, the system keep telling me "this file is being used by another program, please save again" then the file name turned into something like "Word Work File L_230232796.tmp" and I have to choose another name for the file. Besides, sometimes the new file cannot be opened correctly.
