OS X V10.5 Leopard :: Admin Account Switched To Sharing After Trying To Fix Wiki Calendar

May 21, 2012

I was attempting to fix a 210 error on my 10.5.8 OSX Server Wiki Calendar. I highlighted my 58 user accounts in Workgroup manager and selected Enable calendaring and the machine hung up.  I had to force quit the Workgroup Manager and restarted the machine.I then tried to log into my administartor account and was unable to.  We logged into another account and had to create a new admin account where I noticed the admin account that was created on install had been changed somehow to Admin, Sharing Only.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Run A Shared Wiki Calendar On It - External Users Can't Login From Interbet?

Feb 6, 2012

I installed Lion Server on a MacMini  to run a shared Wiki calendar, and all is quite well, I got the Wiki calendar page up and running and the iCal clients have successfully subscribed to it.The problem: external users can'tl log in from the internet. On our LAN they can reach the Wiki Home page at http://10.x.y.z/wiki but how do they log in from the internet ?We have a DynDNS host name, but [url] brings up an empty page.I forwarded port 8080 to our server. I did checkip -checkhostname and it looked alright to me. The server has a FQDN  ourserver.name.private. that points to 10.x.y.z and the reverse lookup points to the server name.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: CS 6 Apps Only Work In Admin Account?

Jun 14, 2012

I'm trying to update our lab computers to Adobe CS 6 Master Collection, but all of the apps only work in the admin account and none work from the managed accounts. I've posted this on the Adobe forums, but no help so far: [URL]..Recap:

1. Made sure that all applications are checked in the limit applications preferences.

2. Changed permissions on all Adobe related folders to read and write.

The prompt stating that the user does not have permission to open the application comes up. if I select always allow, nothing happens. If I select allow once, other permission prompts come up for the application's components (e.g., adobe_licutil) and the application freezes. If the account preference is changed to allow this user to administer this computer, all applications work fine, so there is some kind of problem with CS 6 and parental controls (nothing works if parental controls is activated for a managed account, regardless of the applications being allowed for the managed user).

OS X :: Switched From Windows - Possible To Logout Of An Account Without Shutting Down Applications?

Aug 4, 2009

I just switched from windows/pc and want to know if it's possible to "logout" of an account without shutting down applications/internet connectivity. I used to be able to click "log off" (in windows) when I got up to leave my computer (for security) so that I would have to type in my username and password to get back in and applications such as AIM and internet connection were still available. Can you do this on a Mac? So far I only see options to log out completely or to put it into full sleep mode (signing you off of AIM and iChat).

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Freshly Created Account Is Admin-Account By Default?

May 27, 2012

A freshly created account under 10.7.4. is a Admin account by default. The checkbox "Allow user to administer this computer" is grayed out. I end up with an Admin account and there is no way to convert this account into a Standard account. Facts: 10.7.4 - clean install on a current iMac i5 Freshly created account uses name of a deleted older account (my name)Repaired permissions several times (disk utility and "resetpassword utility" via terminal and safe boot)The older account had been relocated to a external disc for security reasons. There the access rights got corrupted so that I wanted to freshly create a new account and copy all files from a  backup. how to create a new account for me?

ICloud :: Sharing A Friends Ipad Calendar?

Apr 7, 2012

Finally updated to LION and I'm trying to incorporate iCloud and it's services.  At the moment, I'm attempting to use iCal across the board. I have found it incredibly easy to subscribe to a family members iCloud calendar on my iPhone but incredibly difficult to do the same from my Macbook Pro. The family member uses an iPad and syncs this calendar to iCloud. How do I access this calendar from my Macbook?

This is just a little rant but it really feels like Google makes stuff like this easier to do on my Apple products that Apple does..

OS X :: Admin And Standard Accounts Setup - File Sharing

Dec 23, 2008

I am getting my first mac for christmas (a 24" imac) and am planning to setup 3 accounts:
1 for me (admin)
Another one for me (standard)
1 for my brother (standard)

I plan to use the standard one for me as my main account but when installing apps and the like plan to switch to the admin one. What I was wondering is, as far as a I can tell from apple is that if I put music on my standard account my brother would not be able to see the music files, the same for pictures and movies. I would like to be able to share the music files and some pictures across both of our accounts. Would putting the music in itunes from the admin account make this possible and what about pictures? I would also like to keep some pictures private, as would he.

OS X :: Use Admin Account Always On New Mac?

Jun 25, 2009

I am new to the mac world (first mac ever coming tomorrow probably) and I've been trying to gather as much info as possible, so I am not totally helpless when it arrives. One thing I saw somewhere (can't quite remember where it was) was a guy suggesting that users (or new users, can't remember) didn't use their admin account all the time, have your admin account apart from your day-to-day account. Is this something I should do? What are the main differences between using an account without admin privileges and one with them?

OS X :: Any Way To Get Into Admin Account On School Laptop

Oct 2, 2010

I need to find a way to get into the admin account on my school laptop. The way I did it last was reset the PRAM and get into safemode to delete a startup file so I could make another admin account and change passwords that way. But I'm pretty sure the IT people at my school did something weird to these things. When you take the battery and L-bracket out and remove a stick of RAM and all that and hold down option+command+P+R to reset the parameter RAM, it doesn't even restart or ding. I've done this many many times last year so there's no chance I'm doing wrong. It's not just my computer that won't boot into safemode either. I'm cool with using discs, but I don't know if I'd need an admin password to use them.

OS X :: Admin Account Reseted After SL Upgrade

Sep 20, 2009

A week after upgrading to SL, I accidentally logged into the guest account. After an unusual long waiting time, it took me back to the log in screen. Now I entered correctly my usual admin account only to find that everything had been reseted (just as a guest account is being reseted). I had lost my home folder, mail, bookmarks, dock and preferences, movies, itunes, iphoto. Fortunately I had a 5 day old TimeMachine backup, which helped me restore most of my lost stuff (except my movie collection, due to its large size - I had excluded it from TM backups, dammit, as well as some more recent iPhoto updates)

All in all it has taken me 5-6 hours restoring everything to its previous condition and trying to recover the deleted pics from the cams memory card. And I am still experiencing some issues with Mail.app, which says it is incompatible with 10.6.1 for some unknown reasons (will have to delete and reinstall). This issue doesn't seem to be unique:

Next time I will wait for the first major patch before I update my Mac; let some other idiots play the experimentees for Apple, before they find and fix such fatal bugs.

OS X :: IMac Slow On Old Admin Account?

Jan 20, 2010

Last week my iMac (20", 2.4 ghz running 10.6.2) got incredibly slow. I've checked all the usual stuff - recently installed programs, Activity Monitor, reset the PRAM, restarted many times, software update, verified disk, repaired permissions etc etc.

The only thing I know is that the problem exists on my regular admin account, but not on an extra account I have, and not on a new admin account I just set up. At this point I don't think I can figure out what exactly is causing the problem on the old admin account.

1) Is it possible to let my new admin account access all the docs, mails, movies, music, prefs etc in my old admin account? How? I initially thought I could move the important things over to my new account manually. I tried to copy my mail folders in my Library over to my external harddisk, and then moved them to the correct place in my new admin account. I changed the permissions to read and write. But Mail won't open in the new account, and tells me it's because of the permissions on the mail folder.

2) Is it possible to use my Time Machine back-up to let my new admin account behave as if it's my old account?

3) Should I just reinstalled SL and create a new account and then restore from Time Machine when logged into that account?

I have to do something, because the old account is waaaay too slow to use for any length of time. But I don't know the best way to go about this. I realise I might just reimport the problem as well.
