so my install of snow leopard stopped booting, I plugged the hdd into another mac and did a new install (I manged to *upgrade* from 10.6.4 to 10.6.0) but now there is no admin accounts and I can't enable admin on my account because it asks for an admin password.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to uninstall Virex 7.5. I have got the Terminal uninstall command which opens Terminal. So far, so good. However, Terminal is asking me for my admin password but it's not allowing me to enter it. The cursor is not blinking it's just a solid black oblong - just bl**dy sitting there! Absolutely no response to any key except the enter key - then terminal helpfully says, 'Sorry, try again' What's going on? I just wanna get rid of Virex!!!

View 14 Replies View RelatedOn 10.6.2, I noticed that in the Get Info window, permissions for a file could be changed without having to "unlock" the operation with the administrator password. This was not the case in Leopard, which required the admin password before permissions could be changed through the Get Info window.
I found this to be concerning from a security standpoint. I had hoped that 10.6.3 would fix the issue, but it still appears to be a problem. I've noticed this on three different machines, two with clean installs of 10.6 and one with an upgrade from 10.5. Does anyone else notice this issue? Am I right in assuming that this is a security issue? The ability for permissions to be changed for any file directly from the Finder's Get Info window without even an admin password seems to be rather insecure to me.
My wife used to be able to print to her hearts content before I switched over to Snow Leopard. Now whenever she wants to print it asks for an administrators (me) password. How do I change it back so she doesn't need me around to help her print something? What's the use of having a password to protect your account if the printer asks for it every time someone wants to print?

Well i didn't want my sister to have admin (IN retro it doesn't matter), how ever i make my account, and make it a admin. Well as it turns out as i made the account you had to have some "Finger board"? password. and i lacked that. not thinking i shut down the comp for the night.... and then went back in the morning to relise that all i had was a user level account.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had been trying to install software updates for about a week and each time after I typed in my admin password in the prompt, the prompt kept shaking as if the password was incorrect (which it wasn't because it's the only password I ever use so I know it by heart and the caps lock button was not on). I tried going to my System Preferences page and clicking on the Accounts button. All of the other buttons seemed to work just fine (Appearance, Desktop & Screen Saver, Dock, etc). But my Accounts page took too long to load (it was blank) so I just figured my computer was being slow since it hadn't been shut down in a while. I usually just let my computer fall asleep so that when I use it again, I can just shake the mouse and it would be ready to go. I guess that is what triggered it. I was on the computer last night doing my usual stuff. I didn't download anything funny, didn't try to do any more updates, etc. But my computer was running extra slow so I decided to restart it. When my computer got to the log in screen, my administrator account wasn't showing. I have 2 accounts, the admin and one titled "Guest". It automatically took me to the Guest user log in. But when I entered that password it kept saying the password was incorrect. I know the password and I didn't have caps lock on or anything so there is something wrong with my user accounts and passwords. How do I fix this? More specifically, how do I fix my user accounts and passwords when I can't log into my computer through a standard account and my admin account isn't even showing up?

View 4 Replies View Relateda few seconds after waking up my iMac today I dialog box was shown: "App store tries to install new apple software. Enter name and password of an administrator to allow this" (the message was shown in german, this is just a translation by me). The dialog box shows a closed lock with a terminal window as icon. Of course I did not enter any credentials.
As I have not initiated any software installation and the App store application was closed I wonder if my Mac got compromised somehow, I have never seen such a dialog without any prior action by me. Scanning for updates after canceling the dialog worked without problems and without asking for the credentials.
Further investigation shows a log message "the software updated has restarted - reconnecting now" around the time the message was displayed, so this might be the reason. As an additional test I killed the softwareupdated process from a remote machine and the same message was shown a few hours later with the same log message, but this is no proof that the restart of this process triggered the dialog. I am using a iMac 27" with OSX 10.9.4, all updates installed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the last week or so I've been having an increasingly regular problem with Mail. Upon launching, the app opens a dialog window saying, "Mail can't connect to the Google account 'Gmail'. Enter the password for user (username)." Then when I enter the password, the app crashes. Sometimes clicking the "Cancel" botton allows the app to open, but sometimes that results in a crash as well. Also, when I can launch Mail successfully, sometimes when I try to send mail, the outgoing mail will sit in the Outbox unsent.
I've been getting these warnings with both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. Until a few days ago I was using Yahoo as my primary account, but the inability to send mail caused me to switch to Gmail as my primary. After a couple days of smooth sailing, I'm now getting the same errors with my Gmail.
it's a random thing, and it's happening to all 3 accounts I have in Mail. When it happens a box comes up and says that I need to enter the password. I have it stored to save and when the box comes up I click "remember my password" but it keeps coming up. it's not ever day, it's random.

I end up with an Admin account and there is no way to convert this account into a Standard account. Facts: 10.7.4 - clean install on a current iMac i5 Freshly created account uses name of a deleted older account (my name)Repaired permissions several times (disk utility and "resetpassword utility" via terminal and safe boot)The older account had been relocated to a external disc for security reasons. I created a new admin account, and now I need to get all folders like Music, Documents, Video etc from old admin account. So, if I loged in as a new admin I see all folders with red sign in the coner and don't have permistion to see them or move. What are my options?
I do have Time Machine backup from old admin account, but it also doesn't let me open folders from the new admin.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI used an external Windows formatted USB hard drive to transport my files from my old laptop to my new Black MacBook.
There are files I do not need, so on my MacBook I highlighted the files and directories and dragged them to the trash, a dialog box asked me for my password, I supplied it, then nothing happened, ie, it did not delete the files.
I am not sure what this means, and I want to delete the files.
I have a G4 450 OS 10.4.11 and when I went to restart it it asked for a password. I have used this system for a few years and this has never happened? I used my regular password and it worked but now every time I restart it, it asks me the same thing. What is also weird is that It says Powermac G3 above the password box. My system is a G4. I believe the drive came out of a G3 computer at one time but not sure how that relates. This has never happened before. I went to system preferences security tab and it does not show login is enabled at all. I did not do anything that I know of to cause this? How can I remove this login requirement and what does it mean that it says G3 when it is a G4?

I cannot login into the iTunes-Store or iTunes-Account on my MacBook Pro. The following problem occures:
1) I type in the correct Apple-ID and password,
2) my Apple-ID appears in the left corner in iTunes - but nevertheless:
3) iTunes repeatedly asks for my password - again and again. I am absolutely sure that I typed in the correct password, because I also use the same Apple-ID + password on my iMac and everything is fine on the iMac (but not on my MacBook Pro).
Additional information:My girlfriend and me use the same mac + itunes to log in with each our Apple-IDs: The same problem for her on my MacBook. I already reinstalled the newest iTunes Version from apple.comOn my iMac everything works fine (with both accounts).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect my Mac Pro to a wireless network which has no security settings. Other Macs in the house connect to the network with no problem, but the Mac Pro doesn't. I am setting up a new network as I have moved house. In the previous house the wireless worked fine on the Mac Pro.
When I click on the Airport Icon in the menu bar, the search wheel shows and it finds the network, but when I click on the name of the network typically it doesn't connect. Occasionally it does connect, and I briefly have internet access, but then the number of bars on the Airport Icon gradually reduce and then I can't connect again.
When I run Network Diagnostics from Safari, it finds the network also, but then typically asks for a WEP password for the Wireless Network when I haven't added any security to the network (occasionally it doesn't ask for a password and I can connect briefly)
I have tried resetting my Time Capsule and creating a new wireless network with a different name, but still experience the same issues.
I wonder if someone has any ideas as to what might be going on, and how I might be able to troubleshoot this.
When a user logs in, or tries to, it brings up Kerberos Agent and asks for a password. Anything you enter results in taking you back to the login screen? How do I disable this - all macs are running off of a Panther Server for login options.

Recently, my Macbook Pro has been asking for my iCloud password every time I have logged in, or taken my computer out of sleep mode. I don't use iCloud and never have, and have signed out through system preferences as well. I hit cancel when it makes the request, but the window just pops again right away.
I have checked my Login Items and iCloud is not one of them.
Is there a way to get this to stop, or even better, is there a way to delete iCloud safely?

I recently purchased a powerbook G4 running version 10.5.8. I am able to login to everything and set my username as the administrator, but I can not set a password for it, if i try to input a password or change the password I get an error message saying I have input an incorrect password. When I purchased the computer everything was blank except for the user name was set as mac user, as I said I was able to change the username but not the password.
