Mac OS X Lion Server :: Run A Shared Wiki Calendar On It - External Users Can't Login From Interbet?

Feb 6, 2012

I installed Lion Server on a MacMini  to run a shared Wiki calendar, and all is quite well, I got the Wiki calendar page up and running and the iCal clients have successfully subscribed to it.The problem: external users can'tl log in from the internet. On our LAN they can reach the Wiki Home page at http://10.x.y.z/wiki but how do they log in from the internet ?We have a DynDNS host name, but [url] brings up an empty page.I forwarded port 8080 to our server. I did checkip -checkhostname and it looked alright to me. The server has a FQDN that points to 10.x.y.z and the reverse lookup points to the server name.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Network Users Can't Login Via VPN And Profile Manager

Apr 7, 2012

I have a problem with Network Users defined on my Lion Server accessing the server through VPN or Profile Manager (via Safari) ... I keep on getting authentication errors. Is this because they are network users or am I missing something else?

This works: when I logon to my Lion Server with either local or network users everything seems to be OK including home directory synchronisation.

I tried the following for VPN:my local server account can logon to the server (ie my secret key, user account/password combination are OK ("chap peer authentication succeeded for ...")when I try the same with two of my network accounts I keep on getting authentication errors (VPN) but I'm sure I use the same userid/password combinations as above ("chap peer authentication failed for ...")

I get similar results when I access the Profile Manager (url..)my local server account can logon on to the Profile Manager and sees as all the informationwhen I try this with one of my network accounts (which has devices assigned) I keep on getting 'incorrect user name or password

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Edit Users In Workgroup Manager, New Users Cannot Login

Feb 13, 2012

Today when we started trying to add users to our server (we use it only for afp access at this time), we noticed that new users belonging to a group "storage" were unable to login from client machines via afp (clients both 10.7.2 and 10.6.8).

When we tried editing the users accounts to change which groups they belonged to, it would appear in workgroup (and server preferences) that the changes would take but there was still no access.

As a test case, we modified an existing user who had no issues logging in to belong to a diffenent group and have different sharepoint access. The changes looked good in workgroup and server prefs, but when the user logged in, he was only able to acces his old sharepoint and not the new one (and since his permissions to the old were removed, he shouldn't have access to that sharepoint).

Also, for some reason users cannot be deleted within workgroup manager any more. The login used was the diradmin account.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: How To Switch Off Authenticity In Wiki Server

Mar 23, 2012

I am trying to find out how I can prevent the authenticity check used in Wiki Server (Lion).

So far I understood this is a recommended behavior from the HTTP specification and absolutely makes sense for the security.

Still, I am running in a private environment where I would like to use a login mechanism from another website.

Users need to be logged in to the other website (with identical authentication settings) before this mechanism becomes available.

I found: [URL]

But not sure where to look for when it comes to the configuration/modification of the OS X Wiki server.

Best would be to allow a simple "POST" with username and (maybe hashed) password instead of fetching and tweaking the login mechanism.

The authentication source behind is Active Directory for both cases.

The aim of this question is to have a "Single Sign On" in an environment where  Kerberos is not supported.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Configure Wiki Server On It?

Mar 15, 2012

Right now I am able to view my Wiki data only through [URL] when I try [URL] I get a 404 Not Found. One thing that I think is interesting is that [URL] and [URL] both give me the "Welcome to Lion Server" page. I enabled the Wiki service and the Web service both through the Server application. My first thought was that I needed to configure a "Web Site" under the Web service to point to the proper directory location (such as in Snow Leopard Server).  I've tried several different directories for the "Store Site Files In" field, such as "/Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default" and "/usr/share/collabd/coreclient/public" to no avail. The Lion Server documentation shows how to migrate wikis, but I didn't see anything about configuring the service (either in the Wiki service or the Web service).

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Wiki Not Being Backed Up Due To Postgre Backup Failure?

Apr 25, 2012

I'm running the OSX Lion Wiki, and using Time Machine to backup the server.

To test my backup, I restored a new computer from the TM drive.  What I found was that the Wiki wasn't being properly restored.

Digging in, I found the following:

- System log indicates an error from ServerBackup during postgre backup:

Apr 24 14:11:11 radioserve ServerBackup[31725]: Error in calling backup command for service postgresql, error :=69

- The postgre database does appear to be backing up (getting dumped into a file), but then the required tarball isn't being created.  A scan of /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Backup shows only the dumpall file, and its size and time stamp do update each Time Machine backup instance.

-rw-rw-r--+ 29 root  wheel  105399572 Apr 25 08:11 dumpall.psql

- Manually running ServerBackup shows the following error for postgresql:

curServicePath := /.ServerBackups/postgresql/postgresql.browse.plist

WARNING: Service postgresql folder does not exist for browsing.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Why Are New Directory Users Unable To Login To IChat/jabberd

May 3, 2012

I have a couple of new users I've added to our directory recently. They are unable to connect to our internal jabber (iChat) server. Users that have connected previously are experiencing no difficulty. A quick overview of the layout of the system: two XServes, one is OD primary (aspen) the other is OD replica and iChat server (vail). I've modded some config files (long ago) to allow user IDs for jabber to be instead of It works quite nicely.

Excerpt from the logs shows a failed login attempt followed by a successful login attempt. Successful logins are happening from Messages (beta), iChat under Snow Leopard, and Pidgin under windows. Failing logins are all from iChat under Snow Leopard. OS X V10.7 Lion :: Shared Calendar Alerts/Alarms Not Working

Jun 19, 2012

I have shared a calendar with several people, but they are not receiving my alarms/alerts.

I add an alarm at say 30 min prior to the event, but when the even is added to their iCloud calendar, no alarm/alert added so the only notification they receive is the email they get when I create or modify the event.

Is there any way of enforcing the alarm to be shared, or configuing the other users settings to always have an alert. At the moment they all have no alarm at all.

I have tried ticking/unticking the 'ignore alerts' on the shared calendar on their Macs, but to no avail..

Mac OS X Lion Server :: ICal Server Shared Calendars "403" Error?

Jun 13, 2012

We are currently running a 10.7.4 Server with 10.7.4 clients. The problem is with the calendar system's sharing funtion. Some users will consistently receive an error message "403" Stating that the user does not have permission to edit the item when they edit an item or change an existing event to another user's shared calendar. After some troublshooting I found that if I made the claendar in question the default calendar in iCal, I was able to create vents without problem. I have tried removing the problemed users from that calendar's list of shared users, and changing permissions back and forth from Read to Read/Write without any success. There are no iCloud or MobileMe accounts on any of the client machines, a pertinent negative as searching for a resolution to this issue yeilds many similar problems related to those services.

Summary:Creating or editing an event in a shared calendar within iCal (while not the host of sdaid calendar) results in a error code 403. However, when the user in question changes their default calendar to the shared calendar, there is no issue creating new events. The issue is only persistant with a few users. Other users have no issue manipulting existing records in the same shared calendar.

iCal service is configured properly

Mac OS X Lion Server :: How To Lock Down OD Users

Feb 2, 2012

I have a Mac Pro that is running OD to create users. My problem is that the users that I have to give macs to, need rights on their machines to install programs because of all of the development software that these individuals need.I don't want them to be able to make a local user so that they cant unbind these machines from the OD server.

They still need access to terminal. I don't want them to be able to boot into the recovery partition or terminal to get super user rights (thus changing passwords or adding/deleting users). I have restricted their rights to access "Users & Groups" through OD Policies but that's about all I have done.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: 10.7.4 Will Not Create Users

May 10, 2012

I bought a Mac Mini Server yesterday and set it up successfully (Set OD, etc). Everything was working great until I went back and tried to create new users via the server app. As of now, it gives me the error "SEUserErrorDomain error1" and tells me that it cannot create the user. Even though it says that, it will still show up in the user list with the "blue globe" (that I believe is from OD?) but disappear the moment I drill into it and try to save anything. Workgroup Manager will allow me to create the user, but it does not show up in the user list in the server app so I cannot enable certain services for the user (i.e. assign folders for share point, etc).

P.S. Apple tech support had me reinstall the 10.7.4 combo update - no help. They also had me use disk utility to repair permissions - no help. P.S.S. On a side note, I did install Samba 3 on the server via mac port to try and help with LDAP auth (I ended up going with pGina for my windows users), but I have no clue how to uninstall it.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Remote Screen Share Login With Own User Account Interrupts Other Users?

Mar 1, 2012

Apple writes in its OS X Lion screen sharing description that: "You can remotely log in to a Mac with any user account on that computer and control it, without interrupting someone else who might be using the computer under a different login."

Unfortunately, this is not true in my case: When other users are using my 2011 iMac for webbrowsing or DVD watching and I log in on my own acount from my macbook pro, video will stop playing, the spinning wheel sometime appears. The system does not really crash, but wil respond very slowly and in fact is not useable until I as remote user stop my activities or log out. This is not how it should be, especially as the iMac's CPU, memory and network load are very low according to activity monitor's information.
