OS X :: Using New Macbook, Slot In Old HD?
Oct 16, 2009I am getting a new Macbook Pro in a week, with exactly the same specs of my current one. Can I swap out my old HD and put it in the NEW one? Will everything be exactly the same?

View 3 RepliesIt's been a while since I've been to these forums but I've come across another issue.
I bought this refurbished Macbook from Apple on November 26, 2008 (model MB061LL/B).
I would like to set up a mac pro using Slots 1 & 2 for RME ADAT digital audio cards and move the graphics card (geforce GT 120 512mb) to slot 3 or 4 so that I can maximize slot speeds for multiple audio playback via logic. Is this possible?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe SD card slot is only available on the 13 inch MBA. I'm just wondering if anyone has used it yet?I have an SD card in my digital camera but I'm not a huge picture taker so I haven't used it. I'm thinking of getting a 32GB SD card for extra storage to slide in there.
View 5 Replies View RelatedNo security slot is standing between me and an mba. Is there a solution short of a bicycle lock? Will they rectify this next version? I always cable lock my pro in a coffee shop. As Kissinger said, even paranoids have real thieves waiting to snatch their laptops.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFigured I might as well put that slot to use. What do you keep in yours?
View 24 Replies View Relatedthis probably has gotten asked like 1123 times, but do you guys think apple will release the sd in the 17" any time soon?
why did they add it to the 13 and 15 but not the 17?
I called apple today to ask about upgrade to 8GB RAM. They told me that the MBP i7 has 4 slots and since I already have 4 GB I only need to buy 2x2Gb only. I don't know if this is correct??
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo i finally figured out what has been causing all of my kernel panics. Either the brackets or the notches that are holding the second ram stick in place have become faulty. The second ram stick permanently stays in the upright position, and if i do manage to get it parallel to everything, it can jump up at a moments notice if I do something with my computer. This is clearly a manufacturer's defect, but i dont have any warranty left. So i was wondering if any of you guys know where i can get a new ram slot since it doesnt seem to be like it is soldered to the logic board. I had 4gb, now im running on one 2gb stick, and basically the computer is nearly unusable in its current state.

I burned an ISO image file to a blank DVD and it ran fine on my desktop, but I when I put it in my MBP, it said my DVD is blank.
I put in a DVD movie I just bought, and when I insert it it just try's to run but eventually gets ejected.
I just got my macbook pro on monday and today when plugging in my keyboard and mouse into the 1st USB I notice it's not working. I plug them into the 2nd and it works fine.
Is this going to be a hardware issue? I'm sort of gutted, I thought I had a perfect one and now I find something isn't working as it should be.
Can anyone confirm that there is no SD slot on the 11.6 model? If that's the case, then it's not really a workable solution.
View 24 Replies View RelatedGranted I have no clue if the previous generation MBAs had a lock slot, but I've noticed the new ones don't seem to have a lock slot any where on them, is this true ? or is it well hidden that it doesn't show up on all the pics I've seen. I'm specifically talking about the 13" Air.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to put an SD Card slot into the RevC MBA?, I just read that an SD card can be used to boot the MBP in case the HDD Fails. I would think that Apple might be able to squeeze a SD Slot in there to make the MBA even better. Also, the Rev-D should have the SD-Card Slot and a standard 4GB RAM.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOne thing I hate about Mac's are there lack of Port's. Although I am a sincere/proud Mac Owner. I always wondered why Apple had lack of ports. Now my question:
Why doesen't the 17inch MBP have an SD CARD Slot and 4 USB PORT'S? Can we look forward to seeing this in the next update?
Also I think the Baseline MBP (13inch) should have at least 3 USB Ports too! For the 15 inch It should have 4 also.
I'm still trying to decide whether or not to give up my expresscard slot for an SD card slot. If I could figure out something useful to do with it, that would persuade me. I don't do hard core photography yet, and if I did, I could always just USB the camera.Does anyone use the SD card slot for something other than photography? I figured maybe it could be used like a floppy drive to organize certain projects or files but those could always be backed up to CD/ DVD. Not to mention, if you store the files on your hard drive, time machine would back them up.
View 24 Replies View RelatedSo I read online that my PowerBook G4 that I've had since about 2004 may have the defective memory slot that caused Apple to introduce the "PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz) Memory Slot Repair Extension Program" in 2008. However, my serial number isn't within the program's parameters, and as I understand it, the program ended in 2008. It says it applies to serial numbers W8503xxxxxx through W8518xxxxxx; mine begins with W84.
Basically, I have a couple of questions before I a) shell out money for diagnostics and possible repairs or b) buy a new laptop: Is this a memory slot problem? My 15" PowerBook G4 (Model A1045; 1 GHz; 256 MB; 60G; Combo; BT) had been getting the beach ball for awhile, and was very slow operating and online. My sound card had been on the fritz. The internal speakers would sometimes not work, but the headphone jack would still work. So yesterday, the mouse froze while in Firefox, and after waiting awhile, I forced it to shut down. When it booted up again, I got a blank screen and three short beeps, followed by the LED light blinking periodically. All these symptoms seem to point to what Apple said was the memory slot problem [URL]
If this is a memory slot problem, what might the repairs involve and are there price estimates available? Is it better to just get another laptop? (I'm thankful I've had it for this long without any major problems, it's had a good life). If I do get another laptop, am I able to retrieve my information from my old laptop and transfer it to the new one? Is this an expensive procedure? Or is this laptop entirely kaput and my files forever trapped on there? What the recommendations out there (if I buy a new one instead doing repairs to the G4) for a laptop that will be used as my only computer (i.e., what's a good workhorse Mac)?
I am trying to set up an old macbook as a server and I am having a few problems getting the macbook to perform properly.
I know that one of the RAM slots are broken, should that effect the system if their is no RAM in that slot?
I get the occasional read/write error suggesting that their might be something wrong with the hard drive not sure what to do about that. I have zeroed out the HD twice as I herd that that figures out what memory blocks are still writable but it was of no help.
There is definitely something wrong and I need to test everything to make sure that it's working. I am running memtest as I speak. Is there anything I can do to check the performance of my HD?
The main problem I am having is that if I use software update, or try to install Snow Leopard the macbook reboots and sticks on the blue screen with a mouse. I have to reinstall the OS to get it to work again... this has happened a few times now. This also happens if I install a hardware demanding program such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 and reboot.
For MacBooks with SSD drives and a SD card slot; is it practical to insert an "empty" SD card there and use it as spare flash memory to store files etc? Any downsides to doing this? Will the OS detect it like its a spare drive?

I suspect my centre RAM slot (closest to HDD) is faulty or on its way out. Have been troubleshooting a problem and can only replicate it with this RAM slot occupied and the other empty. Error is flash video playback becoming juttery/sticking before continuing. Occasional kernel panic. Has anyone else had this problem before or experienced a dead RAM slot?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 95MB/s UHS I and Class 10 SD card. Using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, I get 17 MB/s write and 19.8 MB/s read speeds. Following the information in this apple support document, the speed of my internal card reader is 480Mb/s. Depending upon how you convert bits to bytes, that should be in the 57-60MB/s range.
Anyone know I can get it running at the max?

I have a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo (8 GB) full of pictures that I want to transfer to my Macbook Pro. However, the adapter I have doesn't fit into the slot. The memory stick alone fits into the slot and I thought that would work since it has on my PC in the past, but that doesn't work either. What kind of adapter do I need to get?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout 6 months ago my Core Duo MBP shut off and then rebooted with loud post beeps. Everything is fine since except that it can only run with 1 stick of RAM in the lower slot, with both or just the upper filled it doesn't boot and the optical drive sounds like it cant start. My 1 year warranty is out and missed the 2 year upgrade. Also does anyone know if this model can run 1x 2GB of memory? I used to have 1.5GB (came with 1x 512MB and added 1GB) and now been running with just 1 gig and missing the performance albeit a positive is Snow Leopard is a lot more snappy on 1 gig than Leopard .
