OS X :looking For Custom Icons For Folders
Mar 1, 2009 i was customizing my desktop icons for music, games, and downloads.basically (for my music) its the itunes icon with a folder background, so the itunes logo fits perfectly in the middle.
well now i cant remember how i did it and i want to ma/ke one for pictures, and i googled it but not sure how to word the search query....so basically i was wondering if someone could remind me how i did this

Jun 22, 2010I put custom icons in place of alot of my folders and other things in OSX, the problem is that after i changed the Finder icon and then booted up in safe mode to make it change like i was told to do my Safari Firefox and Garageband icons have all gone missing. and have been replace with the generic app symbol. the ICNS files with the new icons are still in the right folders, they're just not showing up...
OS X :: Looking For Custom Folder Icons In Dock?
Jul 27, 2009I am customizing my brand new iMac 24". Just switching from M$! I changed the default icon of my folder and I put it on the Dock. Everything fine, but the dock seems to adopt the icon of what it is INSIDE the folder, not the custom icon of the containing folder.
I wonder if I can force Dock to respect the custom icon of the folder (when there are several documents inside the folder, Dock uses the standard icon - not the new, custom one).

Oct 21, 2008I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.5. I realized that whenever I open the finder window in Leopard, all icons (especially documents and image files) automatically changes to custom icons with a miniature image of the contents.
in Tiger, the only time you got the custom icon is if you specifically generated one.
How do I turn off this feature? I just want to see generic icons for documents.

Feb 25, 2012I used to use ResEdit back int he day - and have used various tools on Mac and Windows to change icons. BUt I am stuggling with a default custom icon option for Mac OS X. Â I have a set of farily simply icons for use with a number of file types that I use a lot - csv, psl, pti, tp3, xml, cfr, and others and I would like to always have newly created files get the custom icon. Â
Ideally this would be based on the extension - and they are not all from the same app. Â I am not afraid to use the terminal or edit package contents. Although some of them are windows apps - and I already have a custom set in the virtual machine. Â Some of the solutions I have seen out there such as Candy Bar seem to be only for application and folder settings. Â In a couple cases - such as the .cfr and .pti - the apps do not have an open method where you can double click on the file and have it open - so I woudl be okay with something like reprogramming TextEdit to have the necessary icons and plist updates. Although when I tried to edit the plist file in TextEdit - all I did was render TextEdit unusable. Â
when I create 30 to 40 files ( a group of 5 differnet file types for each option ) to have icons that help me determine which ones I need to run a macro against - and which to send the customer - and which to upload to the vendor - etc. Â Also missing the colorful icons in the sidebar and iTunes - as well an Unsanity Haxies?

Oct 21, 2010I want to set up my Gmail IMAP account in Mail.app so that when I hit the delete key in Mail.app, the message gets archived permanently (in the All Mail folder). What's the best way to do this? Should I select the "All Mail" folder and then choose "Use this Mailbox for Trash"?

May 3, 2012I created a stationery in Mail & saved it as such. The stationery is saved under the custom area and consist of mostly text and then some basic graphics at the end of the message (my fiance e-mail signature w/a picture). When I select a new message and then expand the stationary section, I go to custom and select my saved stationary (in the preview it looks like what I saved) by double clicking but nothing happens - I have also tried clicking and dragging - copy and paste, etc. The text & graphics do not appear in my new e-mail.
I have tried deleting and re-creating the stationary as well as restarting Mail & my computer on multiple occasions but nothing seems to work. All of the other pre-installed stationary seem to work just fine. What I am trying to do is set up premade letters that I e-mail to people all the time, I am tired of typing the same e-mail over and over again. I have a dozen or so that I want to type up and save and then just select the appropriate one for my client, type in their name and other minor changes to make it 'customized' to them and click send.....

Aug 20, 2009I reinstalled entire mac with all systems included and this problem occurs only after this new installation. The Mail system on mac is now changing the Custom Port from my port 125 to the port 465, which means that whenever I restart Mail no emails wants to go out, because they need port 125. I understand how to change this back to fix the problem but my question is why, when I restart my computer is Mail changing this custom port...?

OS X :: Recover Deleted Mailbox In Mail.app?
Oct 25, 2007I did something really stupid... I have been accessing my GMail account using POP access and Apple Mail.app. I switched over to IMAP online, went into Mail.app Preferences, deleted my POP account and was about to re-add it as an IMAP account when I noticed that the e-mails in my inbox were deleted when I deleted my POP account. I checked ~/Library/Mail and the folder was in fact deleted. Is there anyway to recover that folder? Not all of the e-mails are still on GMail's web interface.

Jan 31, 2008I have a Mailbox that I want to delete from Mail.app.
I can right click it, select delete. And it gives the warning. I select OK and it does nothing. I have tried it through the menu system too, and the same result.
Any idea how to delete the mailbox? The deal is I set it up to an email that I cannot access via POP and it is constantly trying to access it but can't, obviously.

Mar 29, 2009I was using OS X 10.3.9 in Mail 1.3.11 on my wife's computer. There are several mailboxes on the e-mail account. I was not able to get my mail from my mailbox, only saw some italic script telling me to go online to get my mail. I was already "online" so I went on and off and on again and nothing changed. So I noticed the "rebuild" option and clickd on it, not sure what it might do but it sounded promising. Well all the email in my inbox disappeared and around 12,000 others that my wife and I shared. Can I recover them?

May 26, 2012I have a mailbox in Mail that I no longer want. I selected the option to delete the mailbox, but the mailbox will not leave the list. I have tried a few times to get rid of the box, but it will not leave. All the settings are still there, it still goes after mail and still allows me to send mail from that account. Aug 26, 2014I run Mail 7.3 on OS 10.9.4. I have 3 different mailboxes and Mial stopped sending from the different mailboxes and uses only one. I went to preferences and ensured this specific mailbox was not selected but that the setting to send from the selected mailbox was used. I even tried to use a different setting, selecting to send from a specific mailbox...still the same. Send always from the same one whatever the parameter selected.

Aug 3, 2006On my new macbook (first mac) I set up Mail with my two POP mail accounts.I have Inbox, Junk, and Sent mailboxes but no Trash mailbox.I have checked the preferences for both accounts and have set the settings to "Trash - move deleted messages to a separate folder". Yet, there is no Trash folder. I have created a mailbox entitled "Trash" and tried to go to Mailbox->"Use this mailbox for" but all options including Trash are greyed out.

Jul 31, 2009I HAD Gmail and Mail working perfectly, until i sent an email too "large" for someones Yahoo inbox.
All **** broke loose, ended up starting from scratch. Have done now 10 times.
Everything seems to be working fine, i'm getting emails through etc. But, next to my Gmail mailbox is the constant loading circle; either the Pie or the Spinning spokes thing.
The loading circles change every time i open Mail, although they are CONSTANTLY there and won't budge -

What does this mean? Im so frustrated because i had Mail up and running fantastically before the attachment mishap, now its refusing to go my way. It functions fine from what i can tell, just the loading circle (both instances) is getting on my nerves!
Software :: Won't Find Old Mail Box / After Rebuild Mailbox
Feb 6, 2006I had my Uni mail account as well as my hotmail account working through Mac OS X mail (Tiger 10.4.4) and managed to accidentally rebuild my mailbox. This resulted in the inbox appearing empty. Since then, I have not been able to get the inbox to show me my old mail. I may be able to get new mail (not yet verified) but I sure as hell would like the other mail there as well. Additionally the rebuild was done accidentally and NOT because the mailbox was ridiculously full. Anyone know how to "reverse" the rebuild procedure? Or at least to get the mail back?

Jun 19, 2014I wanted to send a message and suddenly got notification that Mail app is unable to send the message using Yahoo server, which I noticed being listed as offline. I clicked on "check connection" and it showed Gmail IMAP and IMAP as well as Yahoo IMAP being connected while Yahoo SMTP not. On the right side of Yahoo SMTP Red "dot" there was the instruction, which recommended to check settings of the network connection as well as to make sure if the server supports SSL, and if "NO" - deselect it.  I'm not as tech savvy so the marked part is just the Chinese language for me: what is SSL, how to check if the server supports it etc?
