OS X :: Running 2 Copies Of Itunes At Once?
Mar 10, 2009
Is there any way to have 2 copies of itunes running at once so that I can have different music playing through my airport express then I have playing through my computer? I'm running Leopard if that makes a difference.

digital copies have an expiration date (most of them anyway) & I really don't have much space on my computer to fit all the movies (I think I'm literally down to 3GB). So am I able to download the digital copy to my Mac, delete it from iTunes & the computer to free up the space & then re-download at a later date as long as I'm using the same iTunes login? Also, would this work if I got a new Mac & tried to re-download to that?

I consolidated my iTunes library because some files were on an external and the rest on the computer and when I did this it made copys of most of the songs in my music folder. Also it didn't consolidate the whole library it still shows many songs on the external.
The actual iTunes library is right, just not all songs point to the computer hard drive.
I have about 100 gigs worth of duplicates that I have no idea how to delete besides doing them one by one.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
This is how my iTunes folder looks for most albums.

So i have an ipod classic and quite a few songs on there. But i have a problem that occurs every time i sync, it will recopy and replace the same 109 songs every time i sync. They are not in any certain order, or playlist, they have not been recently added, or modified, or played, or had added artwork. Just every time i sync, even if i sync, unplug, then sync, they will copy all over again.

I've downloaded 3 digital copies so far and none of them are playing properly. Just a black video, no sound no nothing even in quicktime player but you can select chapters in itunes. Length and file size are what they should be. This is especially frustrating to me because I am using snow leopard and i have a new macbook pro 13inch so i don't see why they shouldn't be working. I have Perian installed if that makes a difference but I haven't uninstalled it yet just in case i don't have to.

I'm in the process of converting my DVDs to MPEG for my AppleTV, so I've ripped and converted with handbrake, now I have an MPEG file on my desktop, when I drag that into itunes, it says "copying file" when it is finished, is it safe to delete the MPEG file on my desktop? i. e. does itunes actually create a copy so I have two of the same file? So is it safe to erase the one on my desktop?

I have downloaded several digital copies of movies and would like to be able to move them to another iTunes account. What is the easiest way to do so? I'll actually be copying them so the movies can be synced to two different phones. (we don't have iCloud yet, using older phones)

I am just wondering if there was a specific reason why iTunes did not accept Ultra Violet copies from Paramount? I am talking about movies to be downloaded to iTunes.

I have been running OSX on both partitions of a dual partitioned drive for some time now. I need to do this because I run both Avid and Final Cut. Avid hates when you update your system and Final Cut hates when you don't update your system. I keep all my media on an external and both partitions use it for storage. The solution I have works great, except I'm running out of storage space on my internal drive.
I'd like to move the Avid partition out to a USB drive and boot from that for the rare times I use Avid. I'd still keep my media on an external and use my internal drive for the primary boot (my final cut system). I hear this would be a horribly slow option though as a flash drive is not quite fast enough for a boot option.
My alternative is install OSX on my external. I hear this is a bad idea too because that is where I keep my media. Apparently you should not cut video with your capture media and your OS on the same drive because they are accessed at different speeds.
Here is my question. Which option is the lesser of two evils? Is it better to boot from a flash drive or boot from the same drive as captured media?

I am new to Mac and was using AnyDVD and CloneDVD to back up my DVD library. They do not make software for the Mac so I was wondering if you guys could make recommendations for programs that will allow you to make backup copies of DVD's for home use.
EDIT: I did do a search but the most recent discussion about this is almost 4 months old so I just wanted to see if there was anything new.

I'm a late convert to the apple thing mainly because of my love of the iphone. Had decided to buy a macpro after Christmas, but my PC with my Itunes library died today. Have now ordered the new mac and I can't wait. Here's my first question. Had my itunes library setup on a removable drive rather than on the pc. What exactly will I have to do to get my library up and running on the mac.

I want to run my entire iTunes Music Library from my NAS (Synology) to save space and to consolidate all my files in one secure place. I do no want to use Home Share for the simple reason, you can't synch an iphone or ipod with the music in home share and nor can you keep the artwork for albums etc. So.... I managed to do it. I reset the library, recreated it over painstaking hours, got all the artwork, backed up and synched my ipod to Itunes off the library on my NAS. Then all of a sudden, after taking it offline for a while and using a local library while i did that, it has stopped working and won't reaccess the library folder on the NAS.
Why? For some reason it pulls in different data. Is there a way of deleting the library file that causes all these problems and getting it to rebuild itself, or will that mean waiting hours and hours again while it rebuilds all the music files, even though they exist in the tree already.

MacBook, iOS 4.3.3

Does anyone know how to change the way OS X copies images when you drag them?
When the images are equal to or smaller than 1024x768, you the standard small ghost image that follows the cursor until you release to copy. But, if you're doing the same thing with images that are equal to or smaller than 1600x1200, then see a jpeg file icon instead of the ghost image.
What I'd like to do is to change it to always show the file icon when dragging to copy instead of the smaller image. Being able to toggle back and forth would be nice.

I can't seem to be able to print multiple copies of a document in Leopard. I've tried 3 different network printers (2 windows printers, 1 direct IP printer) using 3 different MacBooks. All running 10.5.1. It'll print 1 copy just fine, but that's it. If you want multiple copies you have to keep sending it to the printer, which is a pain.
Can anybody try printing 2 or more copies with a local printer and see if that works? I think I may have found my first truly annoying Leopard bug

i discovered that if you modify a photo, iPhoto makes a copy of it somewhere in its library (and on your hard drive). Does anyone know how to prevent iphoto from doing this? If i modify a photo, I just want it to overwrite the original (and not waste disk space).

I am a Mac user and I'm totally addicted to Pages '09. I am currently writing my thesis in Pages and I am strongly considering leaving Word aside. My only problem lies with safety copies: I am the only Mac user in my house and I'm afraid that if something happens to my computer I will be unable to use the .pages files in my Macbook because the damned Word processor is unable to read them. Using the export function is not very useful because this would oblige me to maintain hundreds of copies of my files.
Are there any Windows programs that can convert .pages to .doc? This way I could ask my Parents to install it in their PC and I could go there with my external disk in case anything happens (knock three times). Alternatively are there any Windows word processors that can read pages files?

Basicly i thought the best way to explain my hard drive layout is with a picture. So thats how its layed out, basicly i want my macbook to be backed up, but then i also want to have certain things stored off the laptop, but i dont want to lose them through a drive faliure. So i want a 250GB partition from one drive to be completly backed up by another 250gb drive. How could i do this? RAID? or some sort of mirror thing? or can u get a back up program that will automatic do it daily? Does time machine do this kind of thing?I aslo dont mind if they are both plugged into the macbook through cables, or the 250gb drive in connected to the 1tb drive, which is then connected to the macbook, like a daisychain?

I'm running Windows Vista x64 so I decided today to install the 64 bit version of iTunes. After installing it I checked the task manager and saw that it was still reported as a 32 bit program, also my iPhone does not seem to be detected. I was just wondering if I installed the wrong version or if there was something I missed. Here is a screenshot of my task manager to help illustrate what I am talking about.
