OS X :: IPhoto - Copies Of Modified Photos?

Feb 6, 2008

i discovered that if you modify a photo, iPhoto makes a copy of it somewhere in its library (and on your hard drive). Does anyone know how to prevent iphoto from doing this? If i modify a photo, I just want it to overwrite the original (and not waste disk space).

Applications :: IPhoto 09 Created Hundreds Of Copies Of Photos

Feb 22, 2009

I noticed that iPhoto created hundreds of copies of my photos while looking for faces and they are stored in the iPhoto library. I don't like the faces feature because it doesn't really work and I would like to delete these extra files from the library to regain lost space. My question is, will iPhoto just keep trying to recreate face files every time I open the app or do I have to click on the faces tab to make it start trying to generate face image files? And is it a problem to just delete these face files? Does iPhoto make additional copies of these face files in other folders as well or would it all be contained inside the iPhoto library folder that is in my pictures folder?

OS X :: Merge Modified And Original Folders From IPhoto

Aug 9, 2010

I'm constantly taking pictures and have finally bought a 1 TB hard drive to store my photos in. The only problem is that, a few months ago, I was in a crunch for space on my Mac and needed to move my pictures to a different (older) external hard drive for the time being until I was able to buy a new one. In the process of copying all of my pictures from my laptop to my old external hard drive, I went to Macintosh HD>Users>Username>Pictures>iPhoto Library and clicked on "Show Package Contents" to open up the actual picture files in my iPhoto. (I know now - not the best method) So I copied all of my files to my old external hard drive from the "Originals" and "Modified" folders on my Mac.

Is there a way I can move all of my pictures back to my iPhoto library so that it only shows the pictures in regular iPhoto method? (as in, iPhoto displays the original photo, but if modified, iPhoto displays the modified photo and keeps the original in the background folders). I tried to copy and paste the Original and Modified folders contents from my old external hard drive into my respective Original and Modified folders on my Mac and then open iPhoto to see if it would automatically register it, but no luck. Right now, if I were to simply import all of the pictures, I would get 4 copies of each photo, since I shoot in RAW+JPEG, and I have close to 70 GB of photos, so going through all of those individually would not be fun. My ultimate goal is to combine the files in my current iPhoto with my existing photos on my old hard drive and be able to use my new hard drive as my main library in iPhoto in order to free up a lot of space on my Mac.

Applications :: IPhoto 09 - Modified Pictures Show Exclamation Mark?

Sep 13, 2009

Earlier today I copied my iPhoto library file and the iPhoto prefs file to from my Mac Pro to my MacBook (using Chronosync's "mirror" option), for a week away from home.

I've now come to using iPhoto on my MacBook, and noticed that the thumbnails for my modified pictures had reverted to thumbnails of the originals. Clicking on any of these modified images just brings up a large exclamation mark on a grey circle background.

I know that this normally means that iPhoto cannot find the relevant file in the library (usually because someone's been messing around in the library - which I haven't; I took a mirror image), but the odd thing is if I click on "Edit", the image I'm then presented with is the modified image, so it's still there and iPhoto damn well knows it.

I've tried opening iPhoto with alt-opt to get it to rebuild everything, but it hasn't made any difference.

Intel Mac :: How To Get IPhoto 9 To Display Photos Way Iphoto 6 Did

Jul 1, 2012

i have returned all my photos into the new iphoto 9.1.However they aren't displayed the way they used to be. The computer is ignoring all the dates i entered on the individual film rolls and displaying them with date that's embedded on the digital images. An example is i have a film roll which contains photos of my cat Salem which range from 2004 to 2012. This 'folder' used to be displayed at the bottom of all the film rolls as i had it dated 12/25/2020 so i knew where it was and could add to it easily. Now though it's near the top lumped together with 2004 photos dated 2004-2012.How do i get iPhoto to display my photo film rolls the way they were on iphoto 6?I would go back to running TIiger and the apps that came with it including iPhoto 06 but i need snow leopard as i have bought two new Lacie 2 TB drives for storage and they need a newer operating system.

iMac (20-inch Late 2006), Mac OS X (10.6.8), 4 GB RAM, ILife '11

Does anyone have a solution for it? or does anybody face the same issue?

Applications :: IPhoto And Over 50k Photos

Aug 10, 2009

I have an extensive photo collection, around 50k images, mostly 3-5MB JPGs and around 1k 10MB+ RAWs. I have once tried to start managing them in iPhoto and attempted to import it on an old MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM. It was about 2 yrs ago on an old version of iLife. The performance was very bad - everything was extremely slow and I abandoned an idea at that time. Now I have MacPro with fast HDD and 10GB RAM and was wondering if I should try this again using iPhoto 09? Doe anyone manage that many images using iPhoto here? How is the experience?

OS X :: Uploading Photos From IPhoto Library

Oct 27, 2010

First post and want to say this web site has already been great in answering questions. New Mac user (first 60 days) and had really been wishing that I bought the 1:1 service as the transition from a PC has been hard. Watched all of the iPhoto and Finder on line tutorials last couple of days then found this great site via Google. Wish I had found this about 45 days ago. I have done some searches and I am down to a few last questions / confirmations re: iPhoto. - IPhoto library / pictures in the library are not to be accessed using Finder... it is a finder, not a doer and that is how you end up with those pictures with and ! in them. Correct? I admit that I was thinking finder was like windows explorer and you could do things to photo files, copies, move them around, etc. - Go to many different Forum sites and I need to upload photos to those site. I can't seem to use the "browse for a file" function from these sites and see any of the photo files in the iPhoto library? From posts and a lot of trial and error is the best way to do is just to export the photos out of iPhoto library to a desk top folder? Seems like a work around. Am I missing something?............

Applications :: Where Does IPhoto Stores The Photos

Aug 4, 2008

I just upgraded to iPhoto 8 and noticed the contents of the library where not stored in the 'pictures' folder on the 'home' folder as it was on previous versions. However the iPhoto file (in the 'pictures' folder that is) increases in size when photos are added.

Are all your photos embedded in that file?

If not how do you back up your iPhoto library? AND how do you access photos individually outside of the iPhoto app?

I didn't find the folder hierarchy very intuitive in previous versions but at least it was all there in folders in the primary 'pictures' folder.

When I double-click on certain photos (all landscape view) to enlarge them, they expand out, and then go black. If I click on the "Name" button it recognizes faces behind the black but I can't see anything.

I've rebuilt the library and repaired permissions. It doesn't help to reimport the pictures or to rotate them around.
