if I try to print a pdf document using preview, it always cuts off parts of the document on the edges. For instance, I never get pages numbers located at the bottom (or it prints only the top half of the number). This happens for the left, right, and top margins too. Adobe PDF viewer prints documents fine. Are there settings in preview I can tweak to fix this?
In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?
I'm sure I changed some setting somewhere, but this is a bit annoying. Before buying a song in Amazon MP3, to preview, I click the little play button - it used to play in the browser... now it plays it in iTunes. Anyone know what the issue might be? I'm forced then to remove the link it adds to my iTunes library after every preview.
Whats up. I have a picture which someone has edited to make funny. The edited picture shows up in Preview the application with a text box saying something. But in Finder's preview I see the raw picture. Whats going on there and how do i see the full picture the way Finder's Preview sees it.
I use grab quite a lot on my ibook g4, but to get to it i have to open up preview and go through file>grab which is annoying. I would do it through the application menu by going Safari>Services>Grab but on all the programs, this option is greyed out and i can't access grab through that menu.
If I select a group of jpegs in finder to open in preview, preview does not allow me to select all. When viewing the images in preview, I cannot selct all either by going to -edit -select all or a.This option is greyed out.when I need to print all the images, I have to p each image individually.Mac OS 10.4.11
Snow Leopard's Preview can no longer do a search for dollar amounts accurately. This worked just fine in Leopard, but no longer works in Snow Leopard. Go ahead and download a PDF of your most recent bank statement, or any PDF that has a bunch of dollar amounts in it. Then, do a find for one of the dollar amounts. For example, do a find for: 50.00
Preview will no longer find a match for 50.00... instead, it will find any instance of "50" or "00" in your entire PDF file. It uses the decimal point as some sort of a delimiter, and it makes Preview believe that you are doing 2 completely separate searches.
I am pretty new to Mac OS so I am probably missing something obvious, please bear with me. When I try to view a MS Excel file, Mac OS X tries to open it with TextEdit (I have neither OpenOffice or iWorks nor anything similar installed) and of course it ends up displaying only gibberish. BUT when I am looking for a .xls file in Finder, the preview on the right shows what seems to be a regular spreadsheet with columns rows and all the usual stuff (screenshot attached). How can this be? Should i be using something different from TextEdit to open the file? I tried opening it with Preview but it did not work. I have no interest in editing the xls, simply viewing it would be enough.
So I'm trying to adjust the font in a PDF in Preview. I can't do it....is there a way? I also realized that I don't have Adobe....I have Adobe Digital for downloaded books but I guess that's all it's for.
I went online and all I can find is Adobe to buy.
So, finally my question....can I adjust the font in Preview? Zooming doesn't work for me...won't bore you with the reasons.
Or will I have to buy Adobe to get that function in PDF's?
If you can't tell I'm new to the Mac, coming over from Windows for 12 years!!
my old Powerbook G4 clicking on an image would "display" a jpg or other image file via "preview". On my brand new Blackbook it does not, "preview is launched" but no image is displayed. I can open the files via a browers etc...
I downloaded the latest tax forms from the IRS in pdf form, and filled out all my tax information using preview. When I finished, I saved the form, but all the data I entered was lost. Can you not fill out pdf forms in preview? I did find a workaround. I filled in some data, then "printed" to a pdf file, and that saved all the entered data. Any insight into this issue?
I was writing a form (.pdf document) in Preview today. When going to try to quit (apple + q) the printer proxy, I accidentally quit Preview. I guess whoever created the document set it to read only, so I could not save (I'm a bit stupid, should have worked in word). Is there anyway I could retrieve the document? I doubt so, but that is why I am coming to you guys.
My employer sent me a form in .pdf form to fill out and send back. How can I fill out the form in Preview and send it back instead of having to print, complete, scan and re-send the form?
I recently changed .mp3s to open with quicktime in finder and now I cannot preview any of my songs in finder, even after reverting the mp3 extension back to iTunes.
Is there a way to see bookmarks in a pdf in preview? bookmarks that weren't added by preview I mean? As far as I can tell there is not.. which is somewhat surprising. especially since they'll allow you to add your own. I mean that's what I would expect table of contents to be, but it doesn't show anything in my file even though in acrobat it has an extensive bookmarked table of contents. a follow-up question would be, is there any free pdf viewing software that is as snappy and responsive as preview (or close!) and will also display re-embedded bookmarks? because I have a lot of files I like to navigate that way.
I have no idea what happened. Overnight, Preview completely stopped working. When I double click a PDF, it'll bounce around a while in the dock and then the icon will stay there, though without the dot below it indicating that it should be running. When I right-click the icon, it says "Application Not Responding" and gives me the option to force quit it. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.1. I tried deleting the com.apple.preview... file in username/library/preferences and restarting Preview, but that did nothing. Anyone have a clue what went wrong here?
I have set up a few slides in Keynote 09, but I am having difficulty previewing the slides in the slideshow mode.
The video tutorial for Keynote 09 says to highlight the first slide, and then click onto Play button at the top of the menu bar. I have also set up an effect and duration time for each slide, and I have set Start Transition to "Automatically," with a delay of 0.5 seconds.
As a result, when I attempt to preview the slideshow, one of the slides in the middle of the slideshow is hightlighted, and then the process suddenly stops.
how to correctly set up the slideshow within Keynote 09 so that the slideshow can be previewed, and ultimately played, in automatic mode.
Preview just randomly stopped working, when I open a file (try to anyway) it shuts down as soon as the app name comes up. I already searched the forums and deleted the Preference .plist files as suggested which apparently worked for that person, but not for me. I can't find anything anywhere on this, not even a .dmg for Preview, what can I do?
So I typed up some simple html code in text edit and saved it as an html file. However, when I preview it in firefox or safari it only shows the code. I even tried saving the code in word as an html file and it does the same thing.
This is my code...very simple: <html> <body> <h1> Carly Krysak</h1> <p>Marketing Director</p> <h2>Frank's Auto Supermarket</h2> <p>P: 724.430.2000</p> <p>F: 724.438.5990</p> <a href="http://tiny.cc/FbWeSpeakCar">Facebook</a> <a href="www.autosupermarket.com">Website</a> <a href="www.GrindingGearsBlog.com">Blog</a> </body> </html>
I'd like to use this code to create a custom signature for my email so I thought maybe it's just having a problem previewing and I followed the steps to use the code for my signature and it also just shows the html.
When using QuarkExpress 7.31 on OSX 10.5.1 I am having the following problems which never happened in OSX 10.4. Using the Finder through Quark when looking for a job on my server, I locate the job but there is no preview just an Icon. When saving a job with the same name as a previous job in the same folder it now just overwrites the old job without a warning.
Preview is not opening anything. Merely double click an image, or clicking Preview to open it makes my computer lag severely for up to 2 minutes. Is there any way I can uninstall and re-download it, or fix this problem? Not sure if this is related, but opening my Applications folder has the same effect, but not for nearly as long or severe, maybe just about 20 seconds. It seems opening ANY folder with "Preview" in it results in freezing up. It's starting to get really annoying, but I've downloaded a replacement image viewer until the problem is fixed.
I am having issues printing documents I am viewing in Preview. When I press (command P) the File button highlights briefly, but then the print screen does not come up.However, on occasion, it has worked.I have all software up to date and have tried restarting the computer and closing all software.Every other program prints just fine, (for instance, in mail, I can press Command P and it will bring up the print screen as usual).
