View 6 Repliesi want to buy the new imac 27'' with i7 and i have few questions (i will use the imac for HD editing. The footage that i will use is from canon mark II 5D) First my question is did anybody has problems with connecting a second monitor for preview? any problems with MAC OS 64 bit? View 15 Replies View RelatedWhen I edit a photograph in photoshop (cs3/cs4 etc, it doesn't matter which version) the preview of that image goes blurry after its saved. The image is the full res still and hasn't lost any quality but when I have the icons that are of a large size they appear really blurry and 'low-res'. I know its a small gripe but it makes things difficult as a photographer when I am trying to organize images that perhaps look similar or I want to see as a whole set.

Why Preview cannot search phrases in PDF? i.e, I want to search the phrase "Apple Macbook Air", but Preview show the result for "Apple" & "Macbook" & "Air". It's not accurate at all!

Search results in SL's Preview are not very helpful, because it shows only pages where given word/phrase occurs. I miss the view where the context of the search result was shown. Does anyone know how to get the behaviour of the pre-SL's Preview back?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I search for certain words, it won't find any. When I type in a letter, it searches for the wrong letter or symbol. For example, if I type in "A" it searches for "C" and when I search for "C"it searches for "N". What's wrong?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy question is about "Preview". I have a very large PDF document that I am using preview to view. After doing a search for a specific word, preview has returned 1200 results. The results panel shows the page number the result is found on and the line of text on which the searched-for-word is found. My question is this: Is there a way to export this information from preview to something like an excel file? The end result would look like a table with two columns. One with the page numbers and one with the line of text in which the word appears.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Preview 7.0, upon opening a PDF I am able to perfectly use the built-in search feature to search text made readable by OCR. After adding a text-box/annotating within the document, however, the search feature is messed up: the document will return matching hits for my term, but they aren't highlighted within the document body and I get the "funk" alert noise when clicking on results in left-hand results column.
Attempted fix: Printed the document as PDF. Searching this document only will return results if text that I search was typed in one of the text boxes I added.

How can I get Preview to only initiate a search after I have fully typed in the word or phrase. It immediately jumps into a search when I have not fully typed in the word I am searching on. This bogs down the search and stalls my ability to type the phrase into the search box.

I click on one of these hits I am not directed to the URL displayed. I have quit out of Safari and relaunched. I have rebooted my Mac. Neither changes the problem... This is a Google problem: I have the same symptoms when I use Safari on Windows XP. When I switch the search engine to Bing, the problems go away, for both platforms Has Google been hacked? Is this a Google attack on Safari? How can I enter GoGoDuck as a search engine choice?

Is there a keyboard shortcut for switching search engines in Safari's search box (I believe Chrome had this feature before they got rid of the search box in the latest version)? The arrow on the left-hand side is cumbersome.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2000+ page PDF, and I need to search the PDF and print those pages that have a specific search term. The last search I did turned up 617 pages, I would not be economical to have to go through and manually input every page to print them. I've tried every method I could think of with preview. I've tried Adobe. I've tried PDF Reader, PDF Reader X,PDF Reader ++ ...

In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm sure I changed some setting somewhere, but this is a bit annoying. Before buying a song in Amazon MP3, to preview, I click the little play button - it used to play in the browser... now it plays it in iTunes. Anyone know what the issue might be? I'm forced then to remove the link it adds to my iTunes library after every preview.

I'd like to take some of the songs I've got and cut them down to a short clip. Is there any OS X program that will allow me to do that (I have a normal macbook, non-pro)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIm planning buying a new camcorder and are not sure which road to go in regard to video file format. Im planning using Premiere Pro CS5. I know the AVCHD format is very demanding for many consumer setups, but will this HW/SW setup do the job? I have also considered the Canon HV40 that uses the HDV format which is less demanding. Real time editing is of course the main goal. Anyone here who have experience?

I am trying to create a custom ISO for installing linux on dedicated servers, based on a standard ISO. For this, I need to edit a file which contains parameters for partitioning the HD, as I have replaced the supplied HD with a larger one on many machines, and want to modify partition creation, so I do not have to install fdisk and modify the /home partition later.
I have the ISO and can mount it, and edit the necessary file, but I cannot save it back into the ISO.
How should I do this? I've googled widely and found nothing.

I want to be able to edit an icns file I have. I tried copying/pasting into an image editing application, but the transparency copies as a black background. Annoying.
I got the icon here. I basically want to take the Bender icon, add a beard, and rename it Flexo (for fans of the show). I have two identical raid5 boxes that will be mirroring each other, and I would like Bender and Flexo to be identical.
Anyway, is there any simple way to edit an icns file with OS X 10.6? All I need is to be able to add Flexo's beard, then save an image with transparency. I use iconverticons.com to convert to icns format, so I wouldn't need the application to save to icns.
Hey folks, can anyone recommend a free and simple piece of software or app suitable for editing MP3s, like cutting them in half or editing length?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am planning to buy a NEW MAC PRO optimized for my purposes, which are: editing, with Final Cut Studio, independent movies originated on DV format. I'm primarily concerned with having a system maximized for speed in terms of real time editing as well as rock solid stability. So, my primary questions revolve around these issues:
(keep in mind cost is an issue for me - the total for tower and internal hardware should not exceed $5000)
First, is there much of a speed difference in Final Cut Studio between the 2.8 gHZ and the 3.0 gHZ processors - enough to justify the $800 price tag?
Second, I want to have plenty of storage space but I'm finding it difficult deciding on which hard drives (brand, speed, etc) are best for my purposes. (And for cost reasons I don't want to order the stock drives from Apple) Again, I would stress dependability and speed. My initial idea was to get three to four 750 gb or one tb drives. I thought I could have one drive be the system drive and the remaining two to three be raid 0 - arrayed for media storage. Is this a feasible storage configuration? Any consensus as to which brand and model drives out there are best for speed and dependability? And how about the Raid 0 setup - does this sound good, or any other recommendations? I know this is risky as far as data loss, so I was thinking of getting an equivalent amount of external drive space to back up to.
Third, I am wondering about RAM. Again I don't want to spend the $ to buy RAM from Apple. Two questions then about RAM: 1) how much realistically do I need for speedy editing? I was thinking 8 gbs - is this too much? not enough? 2) I need recommendations on which RAM brand and type to buy? And where should I buy it from? Again, dependability is all-important.
Fourth, is the 2600 graphics card sufficient for my purposes? Or will spending the extra $ on the 8800 be worth it? I will probably be connecting only 2 monitors to it.
Fifth, do I need any additional capture cards or some other video card? In the past I've always just captured video from my camera through firewire.
I need the ability to past a tiff of my signature on pdf's ad type in dates and such. I can currently type dates in using Preview, how do I add the signature tiff and flatten the file using something other than Photoshop (how I handle this now).
