I'm having some trouble with my Macbook. It's running on Leopard 10.5.8. I recently tried to partition my hard drive and while doing so it prompted me informing me that there was an 'invalid node structure'. I could then no longer proceed with the partition. I had planned on updating my OS to Snow Leopard. I wanted to partition my internal HD, so I backed up some files on my external HD. I basically wanted my interal HD to run smoothly with a new OS while minimizing the space used. Now I've come across this issue where there is another message being prompted that says, 'invalid sibling links on hard drive'. I found THESE steps on another forum that informed me that this might restore the hard drive back to a readable/functional state but that didn't work either:
(These were the steps I took and nothing happened except another prompt informing me of an 'invalid node structure')
Boot off the OS X CD (reboot, hold C while booting). The installer will load up, go to Utilities in the menu and run Terminal.Type df and look for the drive that has your Mac system mounted---you'll have to unmount this. On my MacBook Pro, it was /dev/disk0s2.Type umount /dev/disk0s2, replacing disk0s2 with whatever disk your OS lives on.Type fsck_hfs -r /dev/disk0s2. If you umounted the wrong thing, it will complain that you can't repair a mounted drive. Go back and umount the right thing and repeat this step.
I then stumbled upon a few different forums mentioning something about Disk Warrior. I was wondering if THAT would resolved this issue. Honestly, I don't really want to spend much money on buying this but I WILL buy a new hard drive if I ABSOLUTELY need to. I was just trying to see if I can troubleshoot this before I decide to throw in the towel and buy a new hard drive or attempt to try out this Disk Warrior thing.
I play a lot of video games on the internet but my connection is not great around 512kbs. I am trying to reduce the sample rate of the microphone from 44k to 22k to use less bandwith when I talk to other players. I always break up when I talk. There is no option to do that in the sound settings. Is there a way to do it? I have a macbook pro 15' 2.5 ghz intel 2 core duo. With 3gb of Ram.
Was playing around with Quicktime X's new screen recording feature for a few days now and thought I'd share a sample video with you guys. Surprisingly good quality I think. Take a look over at http://michaelflux.com/other/videos/sr4.mov (40MB file)
I'm going to be teaching a number of staff at the local high school (which is going over to the Apple platform from Novell) how to use iPhoto but, I don't want to use any of my personal photos as examples. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me where I could find the sample photos that are loaded onto macs in the Apple store.
I just received my Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro the other day, so I thought I should upload some sample footage of the camera, filmed BY the camera, in a mirror: [URL] More of my sample footage (HD only): [URL]
I'm going to University in September, so I'm ripping all my DVDs to AVI format (NOT MP3, so I can't add them to iTunes) so I can save storage. And I'd like to view them in Front Row with an image and a description of the movie. So is there a way I can add these to the files? This is how they look in iTunes at the moment.
In my old version of iPhoto '08, I was able to adjust the size of the photo information dialogue box to type and view a description of a photo. We were able to write paragraphs in the photo information "description" area. In the new version of iPhoto ' 11, I can not enlarge the "Add a description" more than the two lines that are visible. Is there a way to enlarge the "Add a description" so that I can see more than two lines?
I like being able to drag a url down to the dock to create a permanent shortcut to that webpage, but how do I change the description that appears above the url icon? I want to create shortcuts to some google forms I created, but when I do so the description is always the URL, which isn't helpful. I need to change the desciption so it says "timesheet" or "sign up form" instead of the url.
- Is there any way to include a description to a Timemachine backup? It would be helpful to include information such as "backup before installing a specific program or system update".

A couple of nights ago I realized my five year old iMac was making a sound I have never heard it make before. It is a scratching noise that I assume is coming from my internal hard drive (hard drive is stock, has never been replaced). It isn't a super loud noise, but it sounds like the noise some hard drives make when they are "searching" or "thinking". I'm wondering if my hard drive is beginning to fail, or if the problem could be something as simple as dust or dirt caught in the drive. An audio sample is in the link below, [URL]
I have been having this problem since I updated safari , whenever I open a youtube video the description in the description box isn't complete and I have to highlight the whole area to see the full content :s
I recently noted that accented characters are lost in long name description of email alias address when using Mail.app but ok when using webmail in iCloud.comSetup in the prefs of the master mail account in iCloud, the long name description for the corresponding alias.is transcripted as "Frdric" in Mail.app when selecting the sender address in the dropdown list box. However, all is fine when using webmail within iCloud.com The problem appears only with OSX not with iOS.
I have been using my alias with accented char in its long name description for the last 4 years with Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion until recently. I can replicate on 3 differents Macs. Even tried to create a new user account.
I currently use Quicken for Mac 2007 for my budget and finance.fonts are far too small for me to see clearly and cannot be changed. My budget and finance requirements are reasonably straightforward1. Create income and expenditure categories and sub-categories 2. Create 3 accounts (cheque, savings, credit) in which I can manually record debit and credit transactions by description, category and sub-category 3. Create annual budgets with specified amounts each month (not average amounts) for categories and sub-categories
I want to erase a bunch of ancient floppy disks before dumping them and the drive, and I'd like to script an automated solution that will ensure that the media I'm erasing is in my floppy drive, and I'm not blasting one of my Hard Drives by mistake. I'm hoping that my script will be able to trace from the drive to the floppy to ensure that I've got the right target, else quit before doing any damage. The names of the floppy disks themselves are varied, but the name of the drive itself is stable and known. Disk Utility shows the name of the drive (Y-E DATA USB-FDU Media) and the name of the particular disk volume in the drive at the moment. I can find the floppies in the /dev/disk# special file, but I haven't found the drive itself.
I think Disk Utility automatically appends "Media" and maybe "USB-FDU" to a string that it pulls from somewhere, but I can't find that source. how/where Disk Utility digs up the info on the drive itself?
Safari is constantly not accessing internet pages. It can somehow always load the apple.com site, but repeatedly it will lose google, gmail, yahoo, pretty much any other mainstream website. other times it will get to the page and not load images. just little boxes with question marks. and the thing is, 2 second before it did both of these issues just fine
Running OSX 10.5 and I encounter this problem on a frequent basis. The symptoms are the beach ball when coming out of sleep. I run onyx and find an invalid volume directory. Running first aid from the boot cd fixes it but it always comes back within a few days.
Since last night, every time i try to connect to [URL] on my macbook the message "invalid URL" comes up and i can't reach my profile.
I thought it may have something to do with my internet provider but it works fine on my ipad...
I have tried with firefox, chrome and safari and all 3 come up with the same invalid message except that the reference starting with #9.54e0fc ends differently...
i'm trying to setup isight to take pictures whenever there is an invalid login.
i've searched around and there seemed to be a pretty decent guide from a year ago but the authsight program link is dead.
i've looked into other programs like ialertu but i'm looking for a program that will take a picture(s) at invalid logins and email them to me. ialertu just attracts attention with the alarm noise and i've had trouble with receiving the picture in my email.
I was just finishing writing an assignment for school. I always save while writing. Well after I was finished I saved and wanted to save as .doc. I pressed "save as" and suddenly pages did not respond. I tried to force quit but it wouldn't do that so I restarted. I thought since I already had saved it it would be okay, buy when I try to open it now I get the message "Document cannot be read, invalid file."
Hardware: Macbook Air (Mid 2011) - 256 SSD OSX Version: Lion 10.7.2 Trying to update to 10.7.3. System Update downloads then fails to install (can't remember exactly what it said but I think something about the file not being valid) - tried twice Did startup with cmd-R and used Disk Utilities to repair permissions (twice), also verified disk. Repair permissions did show:

I have 3 occurrencces of the same NAS one of which works perfectly, How do I remove the other 2? I have tried previous posted solutions but they keep on returning - I guess because the IP Address is valid and the device active. There must be a system file I can edit??
When ever I use air drop I get an invalid Apple certificate. I then go and delete my Apple user name in Preferences/Users and then reestablish the same user name and password. Air Drop then works but once I close finder it will not work again unless I go through the same procedure. How can I keep the certificate valid permeantly?
