OS X :: Sample Rate Of Microphone On MacBook Pro
Jul 1, 2010I play a lot of video games on the internet but my connection is not great around 512kbs. I am trying to reduce the sample rate of the microphone from 44k to 22k to use less bandwith when I talk to other players. I always break up when I talk. There is no option to do that in the sound settings. Is there a way to do it? I have a macbook pro 15' 2.5 ghz intel 2 core duo. With 3gb of Ram.

ITunes :: Bit Rate In It Changes After Playing?
Apr 1, 2012I started noticing a few months ago that CDs I have been importing no longer display "256 (VBR)" anymore even though I have my import settings set to iTunes Plus. I tried using a custom setting that is exactly the same thing I went through custom->stereo bit rate of 256->and checked the box for VBR. The same thing happens with both. Initially "256 (VBR)" is displayed in the Bit Rate View; however, after I play the track or if I edit any of the tags it immediately switches it to 256 and no more (VBR) listed after it. Is anyone else having this issue? I thought with the last few iTunes updates that maybe this would resolve but it hasn't.

May 2, 2012I have downloaded some lectures that are below 128 Bit Rate, so they are not being uploaded onto iTunes Match.
I was told to change the Bit Rate to 128, and that would solve the problem.
How do I do that????

May 4, 2012I have a lot of old rips in my huge iTunes Library which I did with the old standard of 128 bit. Since I own the CDs, I thought of re-ripping them in 256 AAC, but if I do so, I dont get updates of the "old" rips but new ones. What I would like to do is an automatic exchange of the old and new files w/o having to put all the metadata and cover art again.

ITunes :: Why Does It Automatically Rate Songs At Random
Jun 23, 2012Upon plugging my iPod Nano into my Macbook Pro, random songs become rated 4/5 stars, messing up my 'Top Rated' playlist. No, I've never rated these songs before or touched their album artwork etc. so I don't understand how these songs can be rated automatically despite playing some of the songs only once.

Mar 14, 2012All my music has covers in iTunes Library. But after i updated to iOS 5.1 they are missing on my devices.
It happens every time i check "convert higher bit rate songs to 192/256 kbps" on iTunes 10.6 (40) on my Mac.
On the screenshot (iPad 2010 running iOS 5.1) Bon Iver's album copied by default settings, and Coldplay's album converted to 192 kbps.BTW on my old iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) all covers are OK even when convert feature is ON.

ITunes :: Convert Higher Bit Rate Songs Consumes More Space?
Mar 22, 2012I've got an iPhone & iPad who's filling up quickly mainly due to my audio tracks. They range from 128kbps all the way to ALAC. Currently the audio is consuming 36.9GB but when I select "Convert Higher Bit Rate Songs" to 256kbps, I'm hoping that anything higher (e.g. my 320kbps and ALAC) get converted down and thereby overall consuming less space.
When I select this option, the Audio jumps up to 45.1GB instead. What's going on? Is it upsampling my other 128/160/192kbps tracks up to 256kbps? This option currently seems counterintuitive to me.

OS X :: Playing MP4 - Invalid Sample Description
Feb 19, 2008well i transfered some .mp4 videos from my Samsung X820 phone hrough bluetooth. They played fine on the phone itself.
I tried playing them through quicktime, but returned "Invalid Sample Description", so it didnt open the file.
I then installed VLC, the video played, but there was no audio.

Feb 27, 2012A couple of nights ago I realized my five year old iMac was making a sound I have never heard it make before. It is a scratching noise that I assume is coming from my internal hard drive (hard drive is stock, has never been replaced). It isn't a super loud noise, but it sounds like the noise some hard drives make when they are "searching" or "thinking". Mar 31, 2012In a previous contact software program I have used for years, the first letter of names, streets, and cities, were automatically capitalized as I typed them in. Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.

Safari :: Deleting An Incorrect Auto-complete/auto-fill Entry
Jul 1, 2012I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.

ITunes :: Auto-Size Name Column?
Mar 31, 2012When I auto size all columns or just auto size the Name column in a playlist, it gets the width of that column wrong. It's the only one where this happens, but it tends to undershoot by a few characters. It's as though it's trying to estimate how much space to leave for the Ping button -- does anyone use that button?but gets it wrong. This has been happening since 10.6 and still happens with 10.6.1.
Is this just me? Or does it happen to everyone?

May 6, 2012Typically in Itunes when "music" is clicked at the bottom of the songs window there is an autofill option. I no longer see that option. Where did it go? I want to change what playlist my Itouch syncs with and I can't without having access to the autofill feature.

Jan 6, 2010I am a new iTunes user. I don't want to use iTunes as my default CD ripper or player. In fact, I don't want iTunes to ever start up unless I click on its icon. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a way of shutting off the auto-start after inserting a audio CD. The 'When you insert a CD:' drop-down menu only has a few options and 'take no action' is not among them. So, is there any way I can shut off auto-start for iTunes after inserting a CD? I'm currently running windows Vista 64bit.

The Energy saver shut down schedule option is too rigid for me.
