I had a folder on my desktop that had all types of info in it. I moved that folder to my dock. Accidentilly, I dragged that folder back to the desktop, and it went poof. Is there any way to get that folder back? I have a lot of important information in it. And no, I didnt back up with Time Machine.
View 9 RepliesI didn't put the my documents folder in the trash can and empty the trash. I accidentally took it off the dock, so I went into Macintosh HD in order to put it back on the dock. I went under the "my places" tab and clicked and dragged the my documents tab, but I accidentally let go of the icon before it got to the dock and it disappeared. It was showing the little crumbled up piece of paper icon before it disappeared. So I don't know how to get the my documents folder back. It isn't anywhere on my desktop and it isn't in the Macintosh HD under the "my places" tab. I also don't know how to access the documents that were in there.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI moved my documents folder to my desktop and it disappeared and then i found another folder for my documents and moved it to my dock. And then a icon for my documents ended up on my desktop. When I delete the documents folder on my desktop the format for all my .rar files change to .vlc format. And if I keep the documents on my desktop the files are alright and I'm still able to use it. I tried changing the type of format but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what I can do to delete the documents folder off of my desktop and keep the format the same??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have notice reacently that when i search multiple times in google through the web based search box ( not the safari google bar) and then click on a link to a page, visit the page and the go back page ( via the back button on the two finger swipe) the search term is not the same the same as the last typed search cryteria but corresponds to the first search term used at the beging, thus the result page doesnt have the link to the page that was visited.

I'm an idiot, pleased to meet you.I had 2 external drives connected to my Macbook Pro, both had time machine back ups on...I meant to delete one of these but deleted the wrong one, and dragged it into Trash. On realising my mistake I tried to drag it back out of Trash, as you would normally but after "preparing to copy" for four hours it told me the drive was full...It's a 500gb drive, and the Time Machine back up is the only thing on it, so presumably it's just trying to copy itself when the back up is still present on the drive, albeit in the Trash.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I reinstalled leopard, as I was having errors, and random problems. I backed everything up fine, however I forgot an important /.hidden file I had with some bank data. The machine was on a time machine backup.
Any chance to get it back some how? Would time machine back, it up? Any program that may allow me to get it back if it is still on the drive? I just did a standard quick erase before installing osx again.
My phone calls and it's my (pc-centric) friend Kasper. He's on msn with his girlfriend in Switzerland and she's panicking. She's just accidentally moved her desktop (including everything on it off course) to the trash. She's also trashed Skype (might have been on desktop?!?). And now she can't move it back out again!Unfortunately I'm not the master of Macs that Kasper hopes and I've no idea what to do about this except try to restart. To calm his girlfriend down I've told him to tell her that I'll be back in 30 min. with expert advice from Macrumors... So, what advice should I pass on to him to her?

Unplugged everything from my MBP (including an external display) while it was still asleep, tossed it in my back after it slept again, and headed out the door. When I got to class, all of my desktop items are gone. Macintosh HD, mounted dmg's, some files, and some other things are all gone off my desktop. It changes when I connect external monitors, and it changes when I bring it home from work and boot up.

When I first logged into my home computer using Back to My Mac, it was kind of a shocker to have complete access to everything. That's not what I want. I just want access to one folder (which I called Inbox) into which I can drop documents so that I don't have to take a USB drive home with me. My document needs are just one way sending documents home (I'll file them appropriately when I get home). The added benefit is that if anyone cracks my iCloud password they can access only that one folder.Is there a way to limit access to just one folder? I tried adding my Inbox folder in Sharing in System Preferences but all that does is list that folder along with the volumes when I log into Back to My Mac from work.

I somehow managed to do something really silly, I don't know how exactly I did it, but I had moved my desktop to the trash. So now it's sitting there in the trash. I don't dare do anything until I get some proper advice. Can I just drag it back to my home folder and clear the trash?

View 2 Replies View RelatedEverytime I am in a fullscreen application, like itunes or chrome, I can stay there for about 45-60seconds and then it brings me back to the desktop. It's fine when using iTunes or something but very annoying when I'm using photoediting software or music editing. By the look of what I've seen on the desktop when this happens it's like finder is switching on and off again every minute or so because the desktop goes blank and the menu bar goes blank where it says finder and such.

In the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences, I wanted to add a new folder for use as my desktop background images. However, when I click on the + icon to add the new folder, it does not appear in the source list and instead, it duplicates my Aperture library source, as seen in attachment 1. If I try to add the new folder again, it says it is already present in the source list, as seen in attachment 2.
I've tried deleting my com.apple.desktop.plist preference file, and that resets things, but when I go to add the folder, it does the same thing. I've tried different folder locations, different folder names -- nothing works.
there are several folders on my desktop, when I click open a "Mgmt 339" folder, it appears an entire desktop instead of open just "Mgmt 339" folder.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am using Macbook Version 10.4.11. This morning my 2.5YO son played around with the Macbook (I think Firefox was open at that time) when we were asleep. By the time we came out, we saw 2 new folders in our Macbook: "dwhelper" (14.23GB) and "Library" (3.87GB in size). Please refer to attached jpg file. We also noticed that all of the settings I had in the Mac has disappeared, for instance all my iTunes setups (musics, iphone apps etc) and Firefox bookmarks have disappeared.

Anyways, when I used to open my applications folder all my app icons were smaller and they would all fit in the box. Now when I open it, I have to scroll to get to the different apps. How can I change this back to what it used to be?
If I want to find my downloads folder i have to search the finder for it. How do I get it back into the dock as a stack?
