OS X :: Publishing A Book?

Sep 26, 2010

Alright so I am helping one of my friends publish a book. I plan on publishing it to Amazon using Createspace and later releasing an e-book version ( not worrying about that right now ). Now one of the problems I am having is converting the some 200 individual poems that are in RTF format into a PDF file that is 5x8 in size at 300 dpi. I can't find an easy way to do this. Anyone have any suggestions? I created the cover in photoshop CS5 which was easy enough but am I going to have to copy and paste each one into photoshop and have to adjust the text etc? if so thats going to be a huge pain. Does anyone have any experience with Createspace or selling books on Amazon? Also how do you get your book noticed? Also any other tips on publishing online would be great. Again this is not my book i am just helping publish it and of course I have full permission to do so.

Mac Book Pro Wont Power Up

Jan 4, 2009

I am becoming way to used to going to the Genius Bar with this machine. I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro and it has suffered around 4 or 5 hard drive failures since then, had it's logic board and super drive replaced, and is still giving me a headache. The last time the Genius Bar replaced the HD on my MBP was on New Years

Anyways, here's what's going on.

I woke up this morning ready to tackle writing my college admissions essay. I open my MBP up (I always leave it on), and nothing happens. Okay, I press the power button and nothing happens again! Oh no. I don't hear the HD spin, actually, the machine emits no noise whatsoever. I tried all the suggested steps online that I could find including this one (Troubleshooting a MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro that won't turn on and it still won't power up

I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at 2:00 PM today but I'm wondering if I could do anything to figure out what's wrong so I don't have to do the now ritual 45 minute drive north to Reno. Yikes.

OS X :: Any Way To Reinstall Address Book Only?

Aug 9, 2009

I've discovered an extremely irritating bug in OS X. If you're using the trackpad when copying a file from the filelist in Finder to the sidebar, if your finger accidentally slips off the pad, the file disappears! It doesn't go to the sidebar, and it doesn't remain where it was originally. Great undocumented feature of OS X.

Anyway, since the file I was trying to copy was addressbook.app, I can't run the addressbook anymore. I've read where the only way to reinstall the addressbook is to reinstall OS X entirely including all the updates that have been installed previously. Does anyone know of a way that I can just reinstall that one application instead of having to go through the reinstallation of the entire OS?

OS X :: Address Book - No Name And Email

Aug 30, 2009

Have any of you run across this annoyance after upgrading to SL? I had about 30 accounts that I call on that were listed as Company that all of a sudden showed up in my address book as either NoName or NoEmail. I found the solution to fixing this was to go to each address listed and tic the little box next to the word Company under First Last name. Luckily, I only had about 30 of these to manually fix, I feel sorry for those who have 100's of names to fix. You probably wonder why I did not have the Company box checked, well in all honesty, it did not matter whether you did or not under OS X Leopard, now for some reason some programmer thought it necessary to make it necessary to check the company box.

my new mac book pro stalled upon opening MS powerpoint. I could not kill the process, so I rebooted with the start button. Upon rebooting, the laptop just stays with the apple logo and rotating disk. Using OS v10.5.1 boot disk 1 and holding the down the <c> key does not work - the computer keeps rebooting. Next, booting with the option key gives me a choice, the hard drive or the CD. At least after ~2 minutes, nothing changes with the apple logo and rotating disk, using either the hard drive or CD.

Intel Mac :: New 27 Won't Mount 3tb WD Book

Mar 26, 2012

New 27 iMac (10.7.3) won't mount 3tb WD My Book. It worked fine for about a month and then suddenly said it wasn't ejected properly (it wasn't ejected at all). Now my iMac won't recognize the drive. It doesn't come up in disk utilities, it's invisible.

I think the issue may have started when I restarted my iMac. First the power of the external drive wouldn't come on and now that I resolved that I can't get it to mount.

OS X V10.4 :: Address Book Is A Little Clunky?

I would prefer to be able to select a single address in Address Book, copy it and paste it into a Word or Pages doc. That seems to be a pretty basic feature that Apple seemed to forget about. I don't necessarily just want to create a vcard but that's pretty much all I can do. Apple needs to work on this.
