I'm new to the Mac world and will be getting Snow Leopard in September. Is this upgrade more comparable to a Windows service pack, or is it like a new version of Windows?

This seems to be a problem due to the mac partition I think as I've looked around to solve the problem but nothing seems to work. I've tried changing the AppleMNT.sys file in the drivers folder as one message board suggests but sadly that file does not exist on my windows partition.

i get this error when i try to install service pack 3 on my boot camp partition

I recently bought a Mac and I want to install windows XP using bootcamp. I have installation discs for XP from my previous computer and i want to use them to install xp on my mac, however I was reading through the bootcamp manual and it said this: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc (Service Pack 2 is required for Windows XP installations). Does this mean that to setup windows using bootcamp there can only be one install disc? I seem to have 2 installation discs and I'm confused about whether or not they can be used?

I did some research and learned I should update to Boot Camp 2.1 before installing. I'm confused about updating though. Do I download and install the update while I'm in OS X or did I need to do this while I'm in Windows?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk my ex gf called me at 3 am and cried because she can't boot her macbook anymore after installing her Windows XP SP 1 via bootcamp. All she had is question mark on her screen.I have some screenshots from her and I am not sure whether her photos in her Mac OSX has been wiped out. I asked her to press F3 to quit the blue screen and take out her disgusting windows xp service pack 1 disk.
She managed to go to utilities after putting macosx boot disk inside and gave me some screenshots of her disk drive. I think her data is still intact but we can't repair or anything. Please see screenshots.1) Anyone know how to fix this the easy way? She's in UK and I'm in Australia and I hope I don't need for her to go thru all the ubuntu and etc etc... It's too hard even for me!2) Are her photos/data still in the hard disk somewhere? Her full hard disk space is 250GB.

When reading the setup guide for bootcamp, the page that lists what you need for the process says "Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later" is required...However, the installation disk that came with my Windows XP reads Service Pack 1, Version 2002.What should I do? Can I proceed with Service Pack 1? If not, how do I get service pack 2?

Hubby has now decided to switch to a MAC but he has a couple of windows based programs that he needs to run, he will not use the windows side for e-mail or internet. From my research it seems like you need Windows XP with service pack 2 already installed to use bootcamp, is this correct? If so I am having difficulty finding this inexpensively since we rather put the money into the computer rather than XP.

The installer from this DVD will not launch on my Mac Mini. The store I bought it from won't let me return it so I'm stuck with it. Is there anything I can do to get this damn thing to work? I get a black screen after it huffs and puffs and then dies.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two Lion 10.7.3 servers joined to my company's AD. These servers provide SMB/AFP file services to users. They have been working successfully until a week ago when a change in AD was made. Now Windows (7 or XP, doesn't matter) clients cannot connect to the server using the DNS name, only the IP address. Mac OS X clients are not affected by this, i.e. they can use the DNS name fine. All clients are on AD too. What I observe from a Windows 7 client is, I open Windows Explorer, type \xserver in the address bar, hit enter, & it denies my connection immediately. If I do the same thing with the IP address (\10.0.1.10), it lets me in immediately.
For Windows clients, I have tried both the short DNS name as well as the FQDN, & neither work. The DNS name on the server itself is fine, verified by "changeip -checkhostname". Whatever changed in AD caused the Lion servers to start doing this because they both started exhibiting this behavior at the same time. The only info I've been able to get regarding what changed in AD from the domain admins was "We changed the UPN fromuser@domain.example.com to Firstname.Lastname@example.com", in other words, to their email address. In the system logs, here's an attempt to connect from a Windows client using the short DNS name:

Is it better for me to buy the upgrade for windows 7, from vista to windows 7 or to buy the full copy? If i buy the fully version, should i get rid of my pardon, and re-do it with bootcamp, or should i just do it over my current pardon? (Vista) I just want the best way, less pain, less anger. Im willing to pay more for full IF IT IS THE BEST way to do it.

I removed the partition via Boot Camp assistant, and when I tried to make a new partition, it's telling me that I have to "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try again."
What does that mean? Do I have to reformat (and subsequently erase) everything on my harddrive? If I have Time Machine set up, will I be able to bring everything back to how it was originally?
I am interested in installing windows 7 on my macbook. I am a student so am able to get the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc for cheap. I would like to know if it is possible for me to perform a clean install of windows 7 through BootCamp, with no previous windows versions installed using this upgrade disc.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi just installed windows 7 on my mac last night over my vista partition, but now my avg firewall was disabled to i had to reinstall avg, got that fixed, but my next problem is vmware fusion. it just doesnt work, it boots into windows 7 but then i get the blue error screen saying something like windows has shutdown due to a blah blah blah...anyway i need this fixed right away, do u guys know how to fix it or know any alternatives besides parallels?

I have a copy of Windows 7 and would like to start using it, but would like to confirm that using the upgrade function will work. Will it still be recognized when I press option? Has anyone done this? Also, does anyone know when 64 bit Win 7 will be supported in boot camp?

personally I thought that the family pack was for if you had 2+ Macs to install Snow Leopard on. I didn't really care for upgrading my mac mini so i just bought the regular Snow Leopard for my Macbook Pro. Out of curiosity i tried installing SL on both and it worked.
So what are the differences between the regular Snow Leopard and the family pack?
I've had my Macbook Pro for nearly two or three years now and I never really had a problem with the battery. However, I recently got a new charging cord when my old one broke. Since this time, when I have the charger plugged in and go to remove the battery pack (to conserve energy) it just turns off the system like it's in sleep mode. It'll only come back when I put the battery back in. I also got a new battery a few months prior to the new charger, and I can't remember if I took the battery pack out with the new battery and the old charger. So I'm not sure if it's a problem with the new cord, or the new battery.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing my iMac today working away and all of a sudden the screen went black, there was no power to the computer at all. I have checked the fuse and that is ok. I am getting power to everything else. I reset the SMC as per Apple instructions on their website. Again nothing.Â
I then left it turned off for a good 5 mins and then turned on the power. The fans turned on and the mac then chimed, the creen came on and I thought everything was ok. Then the computer turned off, fans and hard drive sped It didnt even start booting to the Apple logo or the log on screen.Â
I am thinking this is a power issue within the computer and this will need to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My iMac is a 2008 21inch iMac. It is connected to a APC UPS which again all power ports are working, as I have tested that with a desk lamp. What I do normally is turn the UPS when I have shutdown my Mac in the evening and then power it up next day. While the UPS is doing is power self test I then boot the Mac, I am wondering if I should just leave the UPS turned on all the time and just unplug my iMac when I am not using it. Sometimes I do pop it to sleep last thing at night, but recently I just turn it off. Â
It has had heavy use so I am wondering if it is indeed curtains and I need to buy a new iMac. Maybe it is an excuse to buy a 27inch one! (Would be nice)Â

I'm thinking to buy the iWork family pack with some friends so that we can install it on our macs and divide the price up, it's a lot cheaper!
But, in the apple site they say this:

EDIT- I read that the only difference between the normal and the family version of iWork is the licence. So if I buy the cheaper one, can I still install it in more computers and never get cought? Or will it stop working after I install it once?
I bought a new Macbook Pro 15-in. late 2008 model battery on March 26th, 2012, but a month later I was never able to turn on my Mac again while using that battery.
-The battery is unable to charge and my Mac is unable to run without a battery pack inserted.
-The LED light on the charger keeps a constant green light, but the Mac will not turn on. Also, checking the battery, by pressing the silver button, it states that the battery pack only has a few "juice" in it left.
I'm now currently using my old Battery, and everything seems to be working just fine.Throughout the time of having the new battery, I always avoided overcharging it. Only 2 times where I fell asleep and it overcharged. I never continuously charged it, I only charged it when it was less than 10% of battery left. Although I wait to charge it only when it reaches below 10%, my mac becomes inactive for a few days.That's about all the information I can give from what I know. I'm unable to check the specs of the battery because the mac will not start. I'm really worried about what went wrong because it hasn't even been a month yet, and the battery died on me.

I bought a 13" uMBP pretty much as soon as they came out.
I am now noticing heat in the power pack - so hot I'm barely able to hold it once it has been plugged in for, say, 15 mins.
I also think that the battery is now getting uncomfortably warm in a way it wasn't initially, although nowhere near the temperature of the power pack.
Has anyone else experienced this or heard any reports of similar incidences?
