OS X :: XP (Service Pack 2) Installed To Use BootCamp
Feb 4, 2009
I am new to MAC and love it! Have questions about Bootcamp and am hoping I am posting this in the right spot. Hubby has now decided to switch to a MAC but he has a couple of windows based programs that he needs to run, he will not use the windows side for e-mail or internet. From my research it seems like you need Windows XP with service pack 2 already installed to use bootcamp, is this correct? If so I am having difficulty finding this inexpensively since we rather put the money into the computer rather than XP.

Ok my ex gf called me at 3 am and cried because she can't boot her macbook anymore after installing her Windows XP SP 1 via bootcamp. All she had is question mark on her screen.I have some screenshots from her and I am not sure whether her photos in her Mac OSX has been wiped out. I asked her to press F3 to quit the blue screen and take out her disgusting windows xp service pack 1 disk.
She managed to go to utilities after putting macosx boot disk inside and gave me some screenshots of her disk drive. I think her data is still intact but we can't repair or anything. Please see screenshots.1) Anyone know how to fix this the easy way? She's in UK and I'm in Australia and I hope I don't need for her to go thru all the ubuntu and etc etc... It's too hard even for me!2) Are her photos/data still in the hard disk somewhere? Her full hard disk space is 250GB.
[URL]Quote from link above: "OK I just did this and its very quick and easy to fix. First of all, get the XP disc out. Keep pressing eject or hold the mouse button from boot up.Then put in the Apple disc you got with the machine and hold down C for a while until the apple logo and the little wheel thing appears. Then wait for the recovery to start, Select your language. The do nothing until the bar at the top appears. Go to Utilies then start up disc. Select the Mac OS X 10.4.8 or whatever version you are on. You will be prompted to reboot. and then it back to normal. I hope that is clear and helps and it works for me, it takes less than 5 minutes. "
ps: I have tried getting her to press the alt button but it's not helping her. I haven't get her to try pressing the C button after restarting her macbook but I think it's not going to work either...

I'm new to the Mac world and will be getting Snow Leopard in September. Is this upgrade more comparable to a Windows service pack, or is it like a new version of Windows?

I recently bought a Mac and I want to install windows XP using bootcamp. I have installation discs for XP from my previous computer and i want to use them to install xp on my mac, however I was reading through the bootcamp manual and it said this: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc (Service Pack 2 is required for Windows XP installations). Does this mean that to setup windows using bootcamp there can only be one install disc? I seem to have 2 installation discs and I'm confused about whether or not they can be used?

Not sure if this has been ask before. I've installed Windows XP professional (service pack 2) a while ago on my macbook pro so that I can use CAD and Revit.Every time I try to get windows to update to service pack 3 through windows updates in the control pannel it gets to a certain early stage and this error occurs:The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. This seems to be a problem due to the mac partition I think as I've looked around to solve the problem but nothing seems to work. I've tried changing the AppleMNT.sys file in the drivers folder as one message board suggests but sadly that file does not exist on my windows partition.

As you can tell I'm new here and I will be receiving my first MacBook in a few days. I have a Windows XP OEM disc with Service Pack 3 on it. I did some research and learned I should update to Boot Camp 2.1 before installing. I'm confused about updating though. Do I download and install the update while I'm in OS X or did I need to do this while I'm in Windows?

When reading the setup guide for bootcamp, the page that lists what you need for the process says "Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later" is required...However, the installation disk that came with my Windows XP reads Service Pack 1, Version 2002.What should I do? Can I proceed with Service Pack 1? If not, how do I get service pack 2?

with leopard, you could take the install CD and install it on a billion computers, because it never asked you for a serial number...
is this the same case with snow leopard?
or does it really come with a serial number?

I installed bootcamp and ran Windows 7 on a single hard disk.
After using MP for a while, I decided to use SSD as my main drive and re-installed Mac OSX on that drive. Now I cannot boot onto the hard disk with Windows 7 bootcamp.
Is there anyway to recover the hard disk wholly?
BootCamp Assistant keeps telling me I have to erase the whole partition and create a new one

I have bootcamp installed on my iMac. Do I need to purchase Parallels to run Windows on my Mac? And if I do buy and run Parallels is windows included in that package? Or is my most cost effective option to buy Windows 7 and install it via BootCamp?

I've installed the Boot Camp drivers that came with the Snow Leopard dvd. Then after everything is installed, I look in the Apple Software Update program for the 3.1 Boot Camp-Update. I try to install this, but during installation several errors pop-up from the bluetooth, trackpad and keyboard driver.
After restarting the laptop, I can't use the functions (like brightness, volume,...) on the F1-F10 buttons anymore. The only solution to make it work again is to reinstall Windows. System Restore or trying to install the original Boot Camp drivers doesn't work. I thought this was just some corrupt download so I reinstalled Windows, but the problem still occurred. I then did it again, but still.

Just installed Win 7 on MBP13 in bootcamp. I am going to install Parallels next and point the VM to bootcamp OS so I can choose. I'll likely run Parallels mostly, but may need to boot from bootcamp once in a while for native speed. If I install the aps in the bootcamp OS, can the VM in Parallels access them? Or do I have to install them again in the VM?

I installed Windows 7 through VMWare Fusion's easy setup. Can I use this existing Windows installation to make a BootCamp partition? I know Windows can be used vice versa (BootCamp first, then VMWare), but I already installed Windows 7 with VMware first.

I left my Leopard Discs at home and will be away for about a month. I installed Vista but do not have the correct Boot Camp drivers. I was wondering if anyone knows where to find the newest drivers. I need the ones from the disc that came with the computer if anyone can put a link or upload them. Tried Boot Camp 2.0 and update from April to 2.1. Does not have the correct display drivers, trackpad, and network drivers.

This will outline a simple and easy method to install the windows 7 build 7000 to a boot camp partition, using only vmware fusion 2. This is novel because it can be accomplished without a superdrive and without burning a dvd.
1. Use boot camp assistant to make a windows partition.
2. Mount the windows .iso file in fusion and set the bios (F2 during virtual machine boot) to boot from the virtual dvd-drive.
3. Run the windows install
4. When windows wants to restart the first time, shutdown the virtual machine.
5. Reboot the mac and boot the windows partition, boot camp style.

I've got the latest MBP 13inch with Vista installed on Bootcamp. I've turned the sound all the way up and it's still very low. I've got all the latest boot camp drivers installed, I've tried viewing different videos trying to see if the video was the culprit, but unfortunately it wasn't. I searched around and I've seen others with this issue, but haven't found a fix.
I've watched the same videos in Leopard that I did in Vista and they're a lot louder.

I'm curious if you can install windows 7 or any windows for that matter on the hdd installed in the optibay and boot via bootcamp?
Has anyone tried this and if so does it work well?
I decided to keep my 15" mbp as today is the last day for the exchange so I'm going to go ahead and install the optibay and stick my 500gb hitachi drive in there.

I recently installed Windows Vista Home Basic through BootCamp on my MacBook Pro. Everything works fine, except for the one thing that there's no sound... At the moment if i start something with sound, you'll see "the green bar jump up and down" But no sound... Tried to search for an audio driver, and installed one, (not sure which one it has to be though) But it didn't help...
Have tried uninstalling the whole lot and reinstalling it again, same thing happened, when i put in the Max OS x for the driver installation i recall it saying removing Realtek Audio or something, so search for that, but didn't help :/
Any ideas to would i could try to do?

I installed Windows 7 and Bootcamp (Leopard) on my brother's late model White Macbook. Everything SEEMED ok, but now he tells me there is no sound. I don't have the laptop with me, but I had him dig through the installed drivers, and it seems there is a driver installed for the external audio jack, but no driver installed for internal speakers.

I have a MacBook Pro with windows vista on it, and I cant get it to connect to IMac internet sharing, I can get my Mac OS to connect, but when I go on windows, I cant. When I diagnose the problem it says the wireless settings on this computer do not match the requirements if this network. I found this website: [URL] and I know how to set the imac to internet share but that last step that I have to put the internet type as "shared" on my macbook (windows) I have no clue where to find it. Its the network authentication settings, or some settings. I looked in the internet settings and idk if or where it is.
