Mar 7, 2009I recently bought a Mac and I want to install windows XP using bootcamp. I have installation discs for XP from my previous computer and i want to use them to install xp on my mac, however I was reading through the bootcamp manual and it said this: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc (Service Pack 2 is required for Windows XP installations). Does this mean that to setup windows using bootcamp there can only be one install disc? I seem to have 2 installation discs and I'm confused about whether or not they can be used?

Jul 14, 2009As you can tell I'm new here and I will be receiving my first MacBook in a few days. I have a Windows XP OEM disc with Service Pack 3 on it. I did some research and learned I should update to Boot Camp 2.1 before installing. I'm confused about updating though. Do I download and install the update while I'm in OS X or did I need to do this while I'm in Windows?

Feb 22, 2010Ok my ex gf called me at 3 am and cried because she can't boot her macbook anymore after installing her Windows XP SP 1 via bootcamp. All she had is question mark on her screen.I have some screenshots from her and I am not sure whether her photos in her Mac OSX has been wiped out. I asked her to press F3 to quit the blue screen and take out her disgusting windows xp service pack 1 disk.
She managed to go to utilities after putting macosx boot disk inside and gave me some screenshots of her disk drive. I think her data is still intact but we can't repair or anything. Please see screenshots.1) Anyone know how to fix this the easy way? She's in UK and I'm in Australia and I hope I don't need for her to go thru all the ubuntu and etc etc... It's too hard even for me!2) Are her photos/data still in the hard disk somewhere? Her full hard disk space is 250GB.

Can I proceed with Service Pack 1? If not, how do I get service pack 2?

Hubby has now decided to switch to a MAC but he has a couple of windows based programs that he needs to run, he will not use the windows side for e-mail or internet. This seems to be a problem due to the mac partition I think as I've looked around to solve the problem but nothing seems to work. I've tried changing the AppleMNT.sys file in the drivers folder as one message board suggests but sadly that file does not exist on my windows partition.

Jun 20, 2009I am thinking of sending in my Mac Mini to OWC because I'm not good with the insides of computers. I am wondering how the Service works. So am I suppose to add the Service, the RAM, and the Hard Drive to my basket and it knows what to do? When I get the box, do I go to a local FedEx facility to send it back? Is there anything else I need to know? I need advice from people who have sent in there Macs to OWC. Sorry if I sound like a noob, I am new to Macs and just wondering how the service works.

Windows On Mac :: Triple Boot Installation - Stuck At Windows Installation
Sep 19, 2010I am trying to follow the following guide to do a triple boot, but I am stuck in Windows 7 installation
triple boot snow leopard, windows 7, & ubuntu
I have done the following:
1. Did a clean installation of OS X Snow Leopard on hard drive (Not yet partitioned the hard drive)
2. Installed rEFIt
I am not sure what the poster means by making sure it works by pressing the option button. I am assuming it means that I will be able to see the options I can choose when I press option? (I do see options to pick either "Hard Drive" or whatever disc in the DVD)
3. Partitioned 30 GB (or was it 40 GB? x.x I forgot sorry) space in Boot Camp Assistant for Windows installation. Chose the option to install Windows later.
4. Inserted OS X Snow Leopard installation disc and boot from there.
5. Opened up the Disk Utility and partitioned a hard drive (called Hard Drive_2) via the Partition section as instructed by the guide. Formatted in MAc OS Extended (Journaled)
So now, in that area I see "Hard Drive", "Hard Drive_2" and "BOOT CAMP" (so I am assuming that is what the poster meant by "3 partitions".
6. Restarted the computer with Windows installation disc.
Problems occur right here:
Problem 1: I do not see anything called "C something" as the poster said. But I do see something called "Boot Camp"
Problem 2: All the partitions that are available says that "Windows 7 can't be installed". So my question is am I supposed to "delete" a specific partition to install it?
I have pictures of the screen which I will upload later if this isn't clear enough.

Nov 2, 2009I'm looking for a new monitor to go with my MBP, and I'm stuck trying to choose between the ones listed above.
The 2407WFP is a couple of years old now I guess, but it's the rev A04 version, which supposedly fixed the (few) problems with what was otherwise meant to be a great screen. It's an sPVA screen.
I've heard good reviews of the G2410, with its LED backlighting. It's still a TN panel and I hear so much bad stuff about them.
The 2209WA is an eIPS panel which I like the sound of, but it's smaller and lower resolution.
The F2380 is a cPVA panel, the image quality looks better but I've heard bad things about blacks on this panel.
Windows On Mac :: Using XP Upgrade With OEM From Old Dell?
Aug 6, 2010I installed Parallels on my mac, and now I'm trying to figure out how to install Windows XP. I realized that I accidentally purchased the XP Home upgrade package instead of the full version. From what I understand, I can use this to install Windows XP on my mac as long as I have another Windows disc to insert when it asks for proof of my old version. The only old version I have is another XP disc from an older Dell. It's the Dell Windows "reinstallation" disc, branded with Dell. So the question is, will that disc work for me to use the upgrade? My concerns are that they're both XP (can you use XP to upgrade XP?) and the old XP disc is the Dell version. I haven't opened the XP upgrade box yet, and I can still return it, so I'm looking for some confident answers before I move forward with this.

Sep 7, 2009I have an old dell computer...about three years. And recently (like a few months ago) it kinda died. When I boot it up it comes up with the "DELL" loading screen, except this time it has about a dozen green lines going down the screen. And then after that screen the computer just dies. I think my only choice is a complete wipe of the drive since I can't even get into bios or anything but thought I might post here first.

Jul 1, 2010I seem to be rather confused after reading so many websites which say its possible to install windows 7 upgrade over xp by custom install in bootcamp.
I purchased a windows 7 upgrade which I have downloaded as a ".img" file.
However, bootcamp doesnt recognize my .img disc.
I have tried converting the .img to a .iso, and then burning the .iso as a iso disc, but still no luck. (Im not sure if its because of Active iso software Im using to burn the discs or if im doing something wrong.)
I have a legit version of XP already running via bootcamp.
Mac OS X Lion Server :: Windows Users Cannot Connect To SMB Service
Feb 23, 2012I have two Lion 10.7.3 servers joined to my company's AD. These servers provide SMB/AFP file services to users. They have been working successfully until a week ago when a change in AD was made. Now Windows (7 or XP, doesn't matter) clients cannot connect to the server using the DNS name, only the IP address. Mac OS X clients are not affected by this, i.e. they can use the DNS name fine. All clients are on AD too. What I observe from a Windows 7 client is, I open Windows Explorer, type \xserver in the address bar, hit enter, & it denies my connection immediately. If I do the same thing with the IP address (\10.0.1.10), it lets me in immediately.
For Windows clients, I have tried both the short DNS name as well as the FQDN, & neither work. The DNS name on the server itself is fine, verified by "changeip -checkhostname". Whatever changed in AD caused the Lion servers to start doing this because they both started exhibiting this behavior at the same time. The only info I've been able to get regarding what changed in AD from the domain admins was "We changed the UPN fromuser@domain.example.com to Firstname.Lastname@example.com", in other words, to their email address. In the system logs, here's an attempt to connect from a Windows client using the short DNS name:

OS X :: USB Dell Printer Sharing On An AirPort Extreme (dome) - Windows 7?
Mar 19, 2010I am attempting to connect my Dell AIO Photo 926 printer to my wireless network (WPA2). I use an old Apple AirPort Extreme (hereinafter "AAE") as my router (it's the old "dome shaped" one). I believe that heoretically I could plug the printer into the USB port on the back of the AAE and any computer connected to that network can print to the Dell printer. I have installed the drivers for the Dell AIO Printer and it prints fine when connected to my laptop (Windows 7). However, I am having NO luck doing this when I go to Control Panel and run the "add a printer wizard." Is there anyone who might be able to point me in the right direction to a tutorial or something? Is what I'm trying to do even possible with an AAE and an "older" Dell printer?

Feb 7, 2009so i have a windows XP professional disk, SP2 and all. i am trying to install windows, i get as far as partitioning the disk, but once it says "please insert XP disk" i do that, and it will think for a few minutes, and make a loud noise [coming from the mac] then a message pops up and says 'please insert installation disk.' the disk is brand new, what am i doing wrong? should i be partitioning the windows side larger?

When I insert my OS X Leopard install DVD into Windows 7 to install the Bootcamp drivers, the setup.exe only displays two options and both are apperantly related to the Macbook Air:
One of the options is to install OS X from an external source related to the Macbook Air and the other options is sharing of CD/DVD-drive for the Macbook Air.
I can't seem to locate the Bootcamp drivers. I've tried both my OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard installation DVD's but with the same result.
I've been thinking that the drivers could be located in a folder on the OS X installation DVD, but since I can't right-click in Windows the folder is hard to reach.
Have any of you guys experienced this?

Nov 14, 2010I'm trying to install W7 on my Mac, everything goes fine until I get to the actual windows set up, and it says "that's everything we need for now" then your pc will restart a few times. Which it does, but then just goes to a black screen, the Mac sounds like it's gone to sleep. I left it for about 30 minutes with no change so powered it down..tried it all again from scratch and still the same result. On the Mac partition I can see that the windows partition has been created, but is called "untitled"

I have partitioned the hard drive, I put in the windows xp disc to install, but when it restarts to install windows, it cannot get past the grey screen.
I'm not sure what the problem is, and I have followed the bootcamp assistant in doing everything it asks.
After trying to install windows, the only way I can even get it to reboot using mac is to do command-p-r. Anyone have any idea as to what the problem could be?

I can download Windows 7 using my university's website, but all instructions for installing Windows using Boot Camp require using a CD. Is it possible to do it with it downloaded on the desktop, or do I need to put it on a CD/DVD somehow and then use that? I'm not sure if I can put it on a CD (with the stipulations of the University share program).

Since the installer can't find a previous version of Window, it's asking for a install CD for the previous version. I do have a Win 2K Pro install CD, but I can't eject the Win XP CD from the Mac Pro drive to put it in.

Feb 4, 2007I used BootCamp to partition my iMac's HD and install Vista. After doing so, I remembered I have a USB 2.0 80 gig hard drive with nothing on it. Would it be possible to put Vista on that? I'd prefer to just move the partition if possible, if not, I'd reinstall Vista. I know the Intel Macs can boot from USB, I just don't know if they'll boot Windows from USB.
