is this the same case with snow leopard?
or does it really come with a serial number?
I was advised by the Apple store that I need not worry about spy/virus intrusion issues on my Mac mini. However, do I need to worry about spy and virus intrusion when activating the Parallel program and using the Windows XP side of my Mac mini .... i.e., similar to the threats that I had to protect against on my IBM PC computer???

I like to putter around in my local coffee house and leave my mb pro cabled to the table when I go to the head or wander off in a fog. I'm thinking of inventing my own security system -- or maybe having a machine shop drill a hole. or calling Steve and asking him why he created this problem in the first place.

It came with a carrying case, but I want a little more protection, like a snap on case? My cousin has a MacBook Pro and has one. And I want one exactly like it! But I haven't been able to find a similar one for my PowerBook If you don't know what I'm talking about, look here: [URL:...]Something along those lines. I've been looking for one for awhile but I can't seem to find one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using a Moshi ClearGuard KB protector for a while but haven't been happy with the fact that it gets cloudy over time and requires frequent cleaning to restore. I bought the Marware keyboard protector shown here because it looks nice and shouldn't have the same issue with clouding. My only issue with it is that it doesn't fit properly over the enter and shift keys, so the wording on the protector itself is not lined up with the wording on the key below. Does anyone else own this protector? Does yours have the same issue? I'm trying to figure out whether mine is defective or if it's a design flaw.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty satisfied with the Marware cover, although it can be a little frustrating when typing quickly..I'm wondering if I should go back, return the Marware cover and pick up the iSkin.
So, for those of you that have any of these in comparing..which do you think is the best?
And yes, I did search and am aware threads like this exist..but I couldn't find any comparing all three, only iSkin vs. Moshi.
I am new to MAC and love it! Have questions about Bootcamp and am hoping I am posting this in the right spot. Hubby has now decided to switch to a MAC but he has a couple of windows based programs that he needs to run, he will not use the windows side for e-mail or internet. From my research it seems like you need Windows XP with service pack 2 already installed to use bootcamp, is this correct? If so I am having difficulty finding this inexpensively since we rather put the money into the computer rather than XP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the Mac world and will be getting Snow Leopard in September. Is this upgrade more comparable to a Windows service pack, or is it like a new version of Windows?
View 2 Replies View Relatedpersonally I thought that the family pack was for if you had 2+ Macs to install Snow Leopard on. I didn't really care for upgrading my mac mini so i just bought the regular Snow Leopard for my Macbook Pro. Out of curiosity i tried installing SL on both and it worked.
So what are the differences between the regular Snow Leopard and the family pack?
I've had my Macbook Pro for nearly two or three years now and I never really had a problem with the battery. However, I recently got a new charging cord when my old one broke. Since this time, when I have the charger plugged in and go to remove the battery pack (to conserve energy) it just turns off the system like it's in sleep mode. It'll only come back when I put the battery back in. I also got a new battery a few months prior to the new charger, and I can't remember if I took the battery pack out with the new battery and the old charger. So I'm not sure if it's a problem with the new cord, or the new battery.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing my iMac today working away and all of a sudden the screen went black, there was no power to the computer at all. I have checked the fuse and that is ok. I am getting power to everything else. I reset the SMC as per Apple instructions on their website. Again nothing.Â
I then left it turned off for a good 5 mins and then turned on the power. The fans turned on and the mac then chimed, the creen came on and I thought everything was ok. Then the computer turned off, fans and hard drive sped It didnt even start booting to the Apple logo or the log on screen.Â
I am thinking this is a power issue within the computer and this will need to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My iMac is a 2008 21inch iMac. It is connected to a APC UPS which again all power ports are working, as I have tested that with a desk lamp. What I do normally is turn the UPS when I have shutdown my Mac in the evening and then power it up next day. While the UPS is doing is power self test I then boot the Mac, I am wondering if I should just leave the UPS turned on all the time and just unplug my iMac when I am not using it. Sometimes I do pop it to sleep last thing at night, but recently I just turn it off. Â
It has had heavy use so I am wondering if it is indeed curtains and I need to buy a new iMac. Maybe it is an excuse to buy a 27inch one! (Would be nice)Â

i use two mac (both intel - a macbook & an imac), and want to upgrade them both to leopard, but am unsure on which version to buy.
can people please tell if a) i would be correct in saying that the only difference is the licence agreement, therfore the only diff in buying for me is how compelled i am to user-licence properlyorb) there is proper security features like phoning home etc. so i need to get family pack
i get this error when i try to install service pack 3 on my boot camp partition
"there is not enough disk space on F: to install service pack 3. setup requires a minimum of 4 megabytes of free space or if you also want to archive the files for uninstallation, setup requires 4 additional megabytes of free space. free additional space on your hard disk and then try again."
I recently bought a Mac and I want to install windows XP using bootcamp. I have installation discs for XP from my previous computer and i want to use them to install xp on my mac, however I was reading through the bootcamp manual and it said this: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc (Service Pack 2 is required for Windows XP installations). Does this mean that to setup windows using bootcamp there can only be one install disc? I seem to have 2 installation discs and I'm confused about whether or not they can be used?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking to buy the iWork family pack with some friends so that we can install it on our macs and divide the price up, it's a lot cheaper!
But, in the apple site they say this:
Quote:
Install the iWork Family Pack* on up to five Mac computers in your household.
So my question is:
Can you only install it in your household? Is there any way the software knows the 5 computers are not in the same place?
Or can you install them in just any 5 computers?
AND- Do you think it's a good idea to buy it now? I don't know if there's a new version coming soon
EDIT- I read that the only difference between the normal and the family version of iWork is the licence. So if I buy the cheaper one, can I still install it in more computers and never get cought? Or will it stop working after I install it once?
I bought a new Macbook Pro 15-in. late 2008 model battery on March 26th, 2012, but a month later I was never able to turn on my Mac again while using that battery.
-The battery is unable to charge and my Mac is unable to run without a battery pack inserted.
-The LED light on the charger keeps a constant green light, but the Mac will not turn on. Also, checking the battery, by pressing the silver button, it states that the battery pack only has a few "juice" in it left.
I'm now currently using my old Battery, and everything seems to be working just fine.Throughout the time of having the new battery, I always avoided overcharging it. Only 2 times where I fell asleep and it overcharged. I never continuously charged it, I only charged it when it was less than 10% of battery left. Although I wait to charge it only when it reaches below 10%, my mac becomes inactive for a few days. That's about all the information I can give from what I know. I'm unable to check the specs of the battery because the mac will not start. I'm really worried about what went wrong because it hasn't even been a month yet, and the battery died on me.

The installer from this DVD will not launch on my Mac Mini. The store I bought it from won't let me return it so I'm stuck with it. Is there anything I can do to get this damn thing to work? I get a black screen after it huffs and puffs and then dies.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a 13" uMBP pretty much as soon as they came out.
I am now noticing heat in the power pack - so hot I'm barely able to hold it once it has been plugged in for, say, 15 mins.
I also think that the battery is now getting uncomfortably warm in a way it wasn't initially, although nowhere near the temperature of the power pack.
Has anyone else experienced this or heard any reports of similar incidences?
I've just tried DivX for Mac [URL] but found out that it doesn't support .srt subtitles. I'm already using Flip4Mac for .wmv files, but I'm looking for a codec pack to play all other codecs like Divx, Xvid, H.264 with subtitles support for .sub and .srt files. I know that Perian is a good one, but is there anyone better?

Last year, my roommates and I got together and bought the snow leopard family pack for us all to upgrade with. We are now getting ready to move out and go to separate parts of the country. We would all like to have a restore disk. My questions is, what is the legality of making a copy of the snow leopard family pack disk for each one of us?
