I got a mac mini back in february, i think it has a 1 year warranty on it but the thing is i bought the keyboard seperately so im afraid i may need a new one if i cant fix this. Yesterday my right and down arrow keys stopped working. I checked under them and they look perfectly fine, they just dont respond.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe LEFT and DOWN directional arrows on my Mother's MBP just stopped working. All other keys work fine. Does this generally mean I will need to replace the top case? Has anyone out there experienced keys not working, then working again? Could it possibly be the connection to the logic board? Or some dust in an undesired location?

My arrow keys do not function any more, when you press the down arrow key the whole page scrolls up, left arrow scrolls everything to the right and right arrow scroll everything to the left, and the up arrow doesn't do anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with my cursor on my macbook. Since a recent software update I've not been able to move the cursor in any app. The only way it moves is when I type. I use the arrow-keys to quickly move around menus but that is impossible. I have looked at all the settings I can think of looking at, but nothing makes any difference. Helen BTW the OS is 10.6.8

I'm a multitasker, like many others out there. When I surf I like having many tabs open in my browser. My browser of choice is Firefox due to one single reason: Firefox allows quick switching between tabs using CMD + # (nr.). If I want to jump to the fifth tab in Firefox I simply press CMD + 5.
In Safari this key combination opens the fifth bookmark in my bookmark bar.
Question:
Is there a way to "quick switch" between tabs in Safari other than CMD + SHIFT + ARROW LEFT/RIGHT (which gets stuck in text field etc.)?
Safari is otherwise quicker than Firefox on my Mac, so the decision to only run Safari would be obvious if it wasn't for this small thing.
Does anyone have a good solution out there?
I spilled some water on my laptop this morning but it wasn't a lot and seemingly nothing happened. Then several hours later all of the sudden my delete key and arrow keys are not working. I can only assume this has something to do with the spill. My MacBook Pro is over 2 years old and I'm pretty sure the warranty is long expired. I definitely can't afford a new one or expensive repairs. Is there anyway to change the function of my keys? In other words can I change say one of my shifts or command keys into a new delete key ?

Last night a friend of mine spilt a very small amount of soda onto my macbook. I immediately wiped it off and powered down the computer. Today, when I turned the computer back on, everything works fine, however, a few of the keys are sticky (the space bar, arrow keys, shift button, and 2 others). Is there anyway to remove these keys to try to clean them? This is the current generation Macbook.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't backspace anymore. And just now, as I type this, I noticed if I press delete I -forward- delete, and I can still highlight text and delete it that way. How do I change the delete key to backspace? Also, my arrow keys used to move the cursor within text. now it just scrolls the page up and down.
View 4 Replies View RelatedVery often I need to search a single track in an album and then I start my browsing just from that point, using the arrow keys. i.e. I did like this: select the search filed, type the keywords, select the track, empty the search field, press twice the tab key (one to activate the left column, the second one to activate the tracklist), in order to activate the selection I made and, eventually, use the arrow keys to browse the collection. Since some time ago, once that I've done my search, when I press the tab key, it activate the left column and then the tracklist, but it do not unselect the search field and so, if I use the arrow keys, the menu of the search field appears and there's no way to leave unselected the field.

I have Spaces set up to "switch directly to a space" using command+# For some reason, however, Spaces will only switch directly to Space # No matter what applications I have chosen for Spaces 2, 3, and 4, Spaces will NOT directly switch to them using the shortcut. I can still switch to them manually with command+arrow keys, though. It doesn't matter what application I choose as Space 1... I can directly switch to it. But the other 3 spaces just won't allow me to directly switch. (Yes, there's applications open and active in each of those spaces.) Anybody encounter this or know what's up?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using spaces ever since I bought my macbook pro and found it very useful. But after installing snow leopard, I haven't been able to use it properly. I currently have spaces enabled and have 2 spaces... when I activate spaces to show all spaces, I used to be able to switch between them by clicking on the space that I wanted to move to... however, I can't do that now. Every time I want to switch between the spaces, I also go back to the one I was already on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYou move the mouse over to the scroll bar, favorites bar, minimize, etc... and the mouse is stuck in the wrong icon, be it the text pointer, hand pointer, window resize pointer... when it should be the arrow. It is such an obvious bug and I can't believe Apple hasn't noticed this.

I've been searching in vain around the internet for a few days now for a way to change the hotkey for switching between spaces (by default, option-arrow keys, though I have changed it to command-option-arrow keys) to option-tab and shift-option-tab. To be more specific, I'd like option-tab to switch to the space to the right, and shift-option-tab to switch to the space to the left. I have downloaded BetterTouchTool (http://blog.boastr.net/?page_id=1722), and it can assign any shortcut key to the simple option of bringing up the spaces interface itself, but I can't find a way to assign a different shortcut key to actually switching spaces. Interestingly, using that app, I was able to assign a five finger swipe (which blew my mind, by the way) in the corresponding direction for which space I wanted to switch to by assigning the gesture to the shortcut key for switching spaces (so, five finger swipe to the right is assigned to command-option-right arrow).
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I upgraded from mac os 10.5.3 to 10.5.5, and now whenever I play World of Warcraft, I can't use the keyboard shortcuts to switch between spaces. Since I am an AVID spaces use (particularly when playing WoW), I am determined to find an elegant solution to this beyond reinstalling an older version of leopard.
That being said, on Windows I would start tinkering with the registry, seeing if there is a setting that may have been switched for full-screen applications that prevented the use of the shortcuts, etc. And, after doing some digging, I did find some basic files for Spaces (Resources, XML .plists, etc), but couldn't find anything like the registry where the settings are laid out.is there such a thing? If so, how do I find/tinker with it?
I realize that you're encouraged NEVER to mess w/system settings blah blah etc... I've got everything backed up on the machine and could format/reinstall without any issues.
In Leopard, is there a command that I can invoke from within a shell script which will cause the desktop to switch its view to a specified Spaces window?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhenever I assign shortcut keys to Spaces using the Expose' & Spaces panel in System Preferences, it seems that in a day or two the shortcut keys no longer work and System Preferences shows them as being unassigned. I thought there may be a conflict with another shortcut but there isn't - at least according to the Keyboard & Mouse panel in System Preferences. This happens on both my MBP and my iMac as well as on the PowerMac I recently sold. I've tried other keys and combinations but with the same results. I've also experienced this in all versions of Leopard including the current 10.5.7. I'm using F8 to activate Spaces, Command + Option + Arrow key to switch between Spaces and Command + Option + Number key to switch directly to a Space. Has anyone else experienced this?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just noticed... I can't seem to switch between spaces anymore by pressing control-1, control-2, control-3 and control-4.
Usually I had it setup that my email at work was open on 4, web up on 1, chat on 2, and 3 was my "hey, I wasn't fooling around" blank desktop. Has anyone else noticed it stopped working? (might have been when I upgraded from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6?)
I checked in the spaces config, I just saw the settings to use the arrow keys with the control, option, or apple keys.
If I select from the menu bar another available wireless network (one without a password for example) and then switch back to my own wi-fi network, am I still safe?
Did the fact that I connected to another network present any risks?
I did not send any private info during that time, any risks of getting hacked?
Sometimes restarting is not enough: you need to power off your Mac, wait for a little, and power it on again. It could be a script which act like the "schedule" program in system preferences: it would switch off the Mac immediately, the add 1 minute to the current time and switch it on again.

I've been using itunes for a while and it just messed my entire music library up! I've found something that is more Winamp style for me named "Cog". Now my problem is that I want to control it with the F7, F8, F9 keys which are the rewind, play and forward keys, but when pressing any of them it works both on itunes and cog player. How can I disable the Itunes link to it? I want it to control only Cog player.
