My arrow keys do not function any more, when you press the down arrow key the whole page scrolls up, left arrow scrolls everything to the right and right arrow scroll everything to the left, and the up arrow doesn't do anything.

I'm not using an apple keyboard and the way OSX has re-maped the functions is really screwy, so I'd like to set them myself. Can it be done through iTunes or does anyone know of any application that will allow this?

The LEFT and DOWN directional arrows on my Mother's MBP just stopped working. All other keys work fine. Does this generally mean I will need to replace the top case? Has anyone out there experienced keys not working, then working again? Could it possibly be the connection to the logic board? Or some dust in an undesired location?

I am having problems with my cursor on my macbook. Since a recent software update I've not been able to move the cursor in any app. The only way it moves is when I type. I use the arrow-keys to quickly move around menus but that is impossible. I have looked at all the settings I can think of looking at, but nothing makes any difference. Helen BTW the OS is 10.6.8

I spilled some water on my laptop this morning but it wasn't a lot and seemingly nothing happened. Then several hours later all of the sudden my delete key and arrow keys are not working. I can only assume this has something to do with the spill. My MacBook Pro is over 2 years old and I'm pretty sure the warranty is long expired. I definitely can't afford a new one or expensive repairs. Is there anyway to change the function of my keys? In other words can I change say one of my shifts or command keys into a new delete key ?

Last night a friend of mine spilt a very small amount of soda onto my macbook. I immediately wiped it off and powered down the computer. Today, when I turned the computer back on, everything works fine, however, a few of the keys are sticky (the space bar, arrow keys, shift button, and 2 others). Is there anyway to remove these keys to try to clean them? This is the current generation Macbook.

View 4 Replies View RelatedVery often I need to search a single track in an album and then I start my browsing just from that point, using the arrow keys. i.e. I did like this: select the search filed, type the keywords, select the track, empty the search field, press twice the tab key (one to activate the left column, the second one to activate the tracklist), in order to activate the selection I made and, eventually, use the arrow keys to browse the collection. Since some time ago, once that I've done my search, when I press the tab key, it activate the left column and then the tracklist, but it do not unselect the search field and so, if I use the arrow keys, the menu of the search field appears and there's no way to leave unselected the field.

My computer is Mac Pro, 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, running Mac OSX Version 10.5.6. I am a big time user of search (or spotlight) on my Macintosh and I have been using for years and through all the updates. I loved the recent updates to spotlight and I was able to search not only my HD but also the network drives where all of our files are located on an Mac Server.
I am the IT person of this small graphic design firm and everyone in our office work on files that are located on a Mac Server. We only keep the applications on our own client computers. Spotlight or (search) was function perfectly up to a few weeks ago but recently when I need to search something on our Signage A, Signage B, Signage C or Print A, Print B or Print C, drives where we keep our files. The search does not bring no result. This is a problem not only with my computer but there are a few computers in the office with the same problem.
What can I do to resolve this problem and be able to search again on my network drives where I keep all the files we are working on. If this function is no longer available with spotlight or search box of the finder window. Is there another software we can use to search for files and folders on our server. Since there are a few people working on the same files sometimes when the files are moved it makes it difficult for the next person to find them, in that kind of situation search was working wonderfully and I need for that to work again.
im on a mac pro running 10.5.6 and the search function doesnt seem to be working very well anymore. I am talking about the little search box in the top right corner of a finder window. I type text in and it just doesnt find the files I am looking for. I can browse to them and locate them but search wont find them.
Is there some way i need to be re-indexing my HD from time to time? I would expect this for spotlight but I thought the finder search was different...
I'm switching from a PC to a Mac. I have a PC utility called "My Function Keys" that allows me to "program" the function keys to do a combination of keystrokes. For example, I can set up F9 to do a copy and F10 to do a paste, so I don't have to do the Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V, or I can set up F2 to type my address, etc. Is there a similar utility for the Mac? what i mean is how can i remap the volume keys above the numpad so they are used in this order: mute, volume down, volume up like on the macbooks for F17, F18, F19 respectively instead of volume down, volume up, mute like on the old white apple keyboards for F17, F18, F19 respectively. if it is possible i would then just switch the volume keycaps around to match the mapping.
i found this article about modifying the com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist to change the expos� and dashboard keys link. it says near the bottom that it may be possible to remap the volume keys but the author did not know the values... damn so close! does anyone know the values for the volume keys or know of any other way to change them?
Does anyone know how to use the function keys while in Fusion? I'm using Autocad and need functionality of them while using it within Fusion, but they activate OS X functions. This, and enabling "pan" with the middle mouse button, rather than dashboard, seem to be the last two hurdles before I can fully use the Mac for my work.

When you press the key 2nd in on the top right, which is also volume up and f12, when you press it on its own, is it supposed to control the volume or control the f12 assigned in expose for example. Mine was working normally it was controlling volume as I expect it. Now all my top fn keys control fn if you press them on their own.. to control volume I have to press fn?

I have already unchecked, �Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys� as standard function keys� in System Preferences and it didn�t fix the problem. Also, under the keyboard shortcuts tab I have clicked the �Restore Defaults� button. This also didn�t fix my problem.

Example, f12 now goes to the desktop instead of actually increasing the volume and f11 is the dashboard instead of decreasing the volume, etc. I am not sure if an update or something got installed or what. I have tried going into keyboard under system preferences and restoring defaults but that didn't work. I also tried powering the keyboard off and on and still a no go. When I did the latter I realized that this was the problem; all my function keys stopped working, I cannot control volume, eject, brightness, anything. I have uninstalled Realplayer from the Windows partition and the problem persists. I have tried to look into the systems folder and drivers, but I really don't know what I am doing and I don't want to make it worse.

I've done a complete reinstall. I've downloaded the x64 drivers. I've tried everything, and yet my function keys (sound, brightness, eject key, etc) just won't work! They did work when I just used the original disc that came with my MBP. They all worked except the eject key when I only used said Leopard disc. So, when I tried the x64 disc, everything went kaput, including my sound. I have since got that working, but now neither my function keys, or eject key, are working. Can someone give me a step-by-step of what they might have done to get around this, with links?

Well when I was playing music in iTunes, the function keys to skip, pause, and every other function key does not work. The volume keys move my windows and pull up widgets. I dont know if the mouse has anything to do with it, but I imagine it doesn't because I disconnected it and the problem remains.
