View 1 Repliesnstall Windows XP SP3 on my macbook with a dual boot. I downloaded it from Windows, and have an iso file. I used the disc utility to burn it to a disc, but when I try to use it with Boot Camp, Boot camp does not recognize it as a bootable disc.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a project in iMovie for a few days, and it has been working perfectly. Today, I opened up my project and I could not play the project (the red line would move, but no picture would show up in the upper right hand corner box) and ALL of the options in the "share" tab were gray and unable to click them. Many options in the "edit" and "file" tabs were unable to be clicked as well.
Another project i completed months ago is working perfectly. The clips in the events play/show up on the window in the upper right hand corner
After numerous attempts at booting into safe mode while holding shift on start-up, I tried entering sudo nvram boot-args="-x" in terminal to force it manually. Turns out my mac didn't like it that much.
Now whenever it starts up, it hangs on the gray screen for a bit and turns off immediately, never booting.
I use a text edit file as a to-do list; however, it doesn't play nice. When I click on its icon, it pops up somewhere other than where I want it. I've tried "Preferences" and TextEdit help on and off line. I can't find any info on it. I'm probably not using the exact words that 'help' would recognize. I've tried saying "Simon Says" too, but that doesn't work either.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to add something to the HOSTS file, here is the error message that appears when I try to log in. TextEdit[190:c0b] *** CFMessagePort: bootstrap_register(): failed 1100 (0x44c) 'Permission denied', port = 0x4403, name = 'com.apple.TextEdit.ServiceProvider' See /usr/include/servers/bootstrap_defs.h for the error codes. Using: sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts It does open the file, but it is empty. Should it be empty? I can not save it after editing it. But, if i use sudo open -t /etc/hosts OR $ sudo nano /private/etc/hosts It doesn't give me any error, and it also opens the HOSTS file. But its empty! Im using MAc Osx 10.5 Any ideas of what's going on?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI think its the move to Unix-framework that has changed my opinion of the mac OS) and have just bought a MyBookWorld network drive to dump all my media on which is currently on my macbook unibody. Ok, so I know its a pretty crappy product... copying is agonizingly sloooow and is always falling over. I have been trying to enter terminal and use the cp command to copy, hoping I can set it off before sodding off on a long weekend and returning to find the job done. However, I have not managed it yet.
I cannot get the syntax right when trying to copy to the shared MyBookWorld drive. I have no idea about how to locate directories. In windows I could say, for example, C:/users/robsa/my docs/media/tv/the simpsons or whatever, but I have no idea how to do it in OSX. Also, ditto accessing the MyBookWorld directories which I see in 'SHARED' in finder. Again, in windows it would be something like //MyBookWorld/Media/TV/... and so on. I have tried all sorts of different things but nothing works.............
I sent my files from my PC to a MAC in mp4 format. However, I cannot open the files with quicktime (only with VLC) and I cannot figure out how to edit the videos using iMovie because iMovie will not let my import them.

I need to enable short_open_tag. I believe I need to make a change to the php.ini file.
I have tried to open it through terminal through the following comands: cd /etcsudo nano php.ini
got the error message Error opening terminal: xterm-256color.
so then I tried cd /etcsudo pico php.ini and got the same error message.
My Question is, to enable short_open_tag, do I need to edit the php.ini file or not. If I do, how? If not, how to I enable short_open_tag?

Problem I want to Install Boot Camp On my old Macbook Pro, But the "Superdrive" is not super anymore... So I only have the USB option. So I for instance partitioned my Extern HD and installed Lion in hope that it gave me the option to use the USB drive, since Boot Camp 4.0.1 have more options than 3.0.1 But all for nothing the macbook pros s EFI is set to only use the Superdriveport, and not like the Macbook air. I have seen I can use some rEFIt program to go in and change the preferred drive for starup. But I would rather like not to have a to change anything in the EFI with any program.
- So it must be possible to sort of make the Macbook Pro into an Air regarding the drives, if you know any kind of programming, which I dont.

I need a way to quickly remove text from a load of file names. I have ripped my DVD TV show series to my Apple TV and transfered them, but I want to make all the file names simpler that what they are currently. Changing them all through FTP would take ages - so I am hoping there is some kind of recursive command I can use to eliminate a set bit of text from a group of folders.
