OS X :: How To Connect With Server For Accessing Shared Drives

Jul 8, 2009

I'm sure this thread is floating around here already but I'm a little too frustrated to look. I'm having trouble connecting my Mac to a network server at my office in order to access a shared drive on the network. I can't seem to identify the network share path to fill in the Server Address: field on the Connect to Server window. I have the IP address for the server but am uncertain if it's the same thing as it doesn't seem to be working. Also, I'm not certain what drive syntax the network is running on; whether it's a ftp, afp, or smb.

OS X :: Bunch Of Shared Drives Or Folders Showed In My Finder Under Shared?

Feb 19, 2010

A couple of months ago I was at the head office and connected to the in house Wifi. When I did, a bunch of shared drives or folders showed in my finder under "Shared". I figured no biggie, when I got away from the head office they'd go away. But they didn't. And I can't figure out how to get rid of them.See attached photo.

Hardware :: Accessing Data From SCSI Drives

Feb 5, 2008

I could use some help getting data off of my old Mac II ci System 7.1 that I stored some 12 - 13 years ago, I think. The reason I stored it was the Super Drive (floppy) was erratic - worked sometimes and not others. I had the drive replaced, but the problem persisted - someone told me it was probably the floppy drive controller, but I never dug that far into it at the time. I suspect the box has Applenet, but I never used it or any other networking scheme with it, except dial-up modem.

I started reading here about problems associated with accessing SCSI drives, which I assume mine is - it was the big 100 MB! How do I access the data from it? Or, give me a starting link for researching it, please. After I do that, how do I read it or convert it into something I can use in Mac OS X? I had Great Works word processing, spreadsheets, and drawing programs, and some AppleWorks data, along with FileMaker Pro 2.0 (or 2.5, but not 3.0).

OS X Server :: Why Do My Shared Macs Vanish From The Server

May 25, 2008

I'm running 10.5.1 server on a G5 and plain old 10.5.2 on two other Macs. When I reboot the server, the other two Macs appear in the Shared section in the sidebar of a Finder window. I can mount their disks and share their screens.

After some indeterminate time (days, sometimes hours), they disappear from the sidebar. I can ping them and I can mount their file systems via "Connect to server ...", but I can't get to their screens. I have two PC's and a Linux box and they never disappear. And on each non-server Mac, the server and the other non are always there.

Why do my shared Macs vanish from the server?

IMac :: Home And Net Shared Drives Appear On Desktop?

Dec 11, 2009

I'm using SL, and these do appear to be hidden files. But they are drives (shared apparently, blue with the people on the drive as the logo) and if I click get info it says under server: file//localhost/home. The "net" drive appears as file//localhost/net. Sharing and permissions says - you can only read. I definitely don't run any servers, just browsing for the most part. I haven't noticed this drive until today.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: ICal Server Shared Calendars "403" Error?

Jun 13, 2012

We are currently running a 10.7.4 Server with 10.7.4 clients. The problem is with the calendar system's sharing funtion. Some users will consistently receive an error message "403" Stating that the user does not have permission to edit the item when they edit an item or change an existing event to another user's shared calendar. After some troublshooting I found that if I made the claendar in question the default calendar in iCal, I was able to create vents without problem. I have tried removing the problemed users from that calendar's list of shared users, and changing permissions back and forth from Read to Read/Write without any success. There are no iCloud or MobileMe accounts on any of the client machines, a pertinent negative as searching for a resolution to this issue yeilds many similar problems related to those services.

Summary:Creating or editing an event in a shared calendar within iCal (while not the host of sdaid calendar) results in a error code 403. However, when the user in question changes their default calendar to the shared calendar, there is no issue creating new events. The issue is only persistant with a few users. Other users have no issue manipulting existing records in the same shared calendar.

Configuration:
OS X Lion Server (10.7.4)
iCal service is configured properly
Clients are all running 10.7.4

OS X :: Unknown Computer/server Showing Up Under Shared?

Mar 4, 2009

I have 3 macs and a PS3/Xbox 360 all running on a protected wireless network at my house...our iPhones also use the network when necessary.

Right now I am on the MacBook Pro, my iMac is on in another room, and all other devices are off. Usually under shared from this computer I just see my iMac in finder because I allow sharing between the 2 computers... but I noticed something odd that I've never seen before. Something else is showing up under "Shared". It looks like another computer and says "mac001b639f####" I didnt fill in the last 4 characters just in case this ends up being some sort of personal info that I shouldnt be sharing.

OS X :: Connect To A Windows 7 Shared Folder?

Dec 4, 2010

So basically, I was given a decent windows machine for free, and I'm trying to convert it into a place where all our family's files can be accessed.

However, I'm having a real tough time trying to connect to the windows 7 computer. I've tried Go>Connect to Server and put in "smb://" then the IP address (192.168.1.105 in this case), and I get the error message saying I should check my IP address and contact my system's administrator.

Now, the part that baffles me the most is that in the finder left hand sidebar, I can see the homeserver and the other computer on the network. When I try to connect to either one of them, it takes a good 15 minutes then the computer gives up, even when I connect with the administrator username and password.

Is it a problem with my computer? I've got them all on the same workgroup (MSHOME) and are connected to the same router.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Group Shared Folder Name?

May 16, 2012

I'm running OS X Server 10.6.8 and I created a new group in Workgroup Manager and I'd like to share a group folder for that group. I created the share and when I go to set the path for the group folder, Workgroup Manager keeps sticking the actual name of the group onto the end of the folder name I'm using. I have an example below since I know it is probably hard to understand what I'm trying to describe. On the group shared tab in Workgroup Manager, it asks for a Path name. My group name is Test and the folder I want to appear on the dock for this group is called Help. For the Path name I enter Help, since that is the name of the folder I want to appear. When I save the changes and go back to look at the information I put in, the Path now says Help/Test and when I log in, I have a question mark on my dock instead of the Help folder. This used to work in 10.4 without any problems. Now 10.5 & 10.6 want to call the group shared folder whatever the name of the actual group is.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Cannot Connect To VPN Service Unless Server Is Locally Logged Into

Jun 27, 2012

I work remotely a lot.  After I upgraded to Lion server, I am unable to connect to the VPN service remotely unless I physically go over to the server (mac pro) and log into the desktop manually.

Previously, if my Snow Leopard server restarted (due to power failure, etc) and it re-booted up to the login screen, I could still logon to the VPN remotely as the VPN service would always startup (at the login screen) without a user having to be logging in.

Now, with Lion Server (10.7.4), if the server restarts, I cannot login back to the VPN. I have to get someone to go over to the server and manually login, then I can access VPN just fine. (I do not, and will not turn automatic login on on my server due to the huge security risk.)

How do I get the Lion Server VPN service to startup before or at the logon screen even if no user is logged in?

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Server Admin Cannot Connect

I'm trying to using Server admin on a remote Mac to manage our xserve. Both are running 10.6.8 and I've installed the Server Admin tools onto the mac. Both the Workgroup manager and Server Monitor work OK on the mac, but whenever I try and connect the Server Admin it always comes up with the error : "The login information is incomplete for this server or is not valid. The server failed to accept the login information you provided for <servername>. Check the name and password and try to log on again" I can't connect using the server name, FQDN, or IP address. The macs are all using OD and AD and I've tried both AD and local OD accounts (all administrative) but to no avail. DNS is working OK and I can resolve the server-name with dig and dig -x. I can screen share the server so connectivity isn't the problem.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Run A Shared Wiki Calendar On It - External Users Can't Login From Interbet?

The server has a FQDN  ourserver.name.private. that points to 10.x.y.z and the reverse lookup points to the server name.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Connect To Server

Apr 30, 2012

I am running multiple services with the latest version of OS X Server (10.6.8) on my MacMini (web, vpn, mail, ichat, ical, address book, etc.) . Everything has been working fine for the last year and no changes have been made to the server, settings, ISP, or DNS, with the exception of installing the latest system software updates. Now, when I try to open my websites or connect remotely via VPN I get a "cannot connect to sever" message.  All other services are still working as they should. The server is hooked up to an Airport Extreme via a cable modem with a static IP. I have tried the following thus far:

1) checked all cables and they are plugged in and seated properly.

2) restarted the server, airport extreme, and cable modem

3) turned Web services off and on again in Server Admin

4) checked the DNS via the web and my site addresses are pointing to my static IP address

5) checked the Airport's port mapping to make sure Web Service was still on

6) checked my websites SSL certificate to make sure it's current and enabled

7) tried disabling SSL

8) created and enabled a new self-signed SSL certificate

Recent log activity shows:

Apr 29 11:38:49 xxxxxx-corp org.apache.httpd[47667]: Syntax error on line 13 of /etc/apache2/proxy_sites/0000_any_8443_localhost.conf:

Apr 29 11:38:49 xxxxxx-corp com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[47667]): Exited with exit code: 1

I'm assuming the "key.pem' does not exist or is empty" part is the issue, but I am a novice and have no idea what that means.
