Mac OS X Lion Server :: ICal Server Shared Calendars "403" Error?
Jun 13, 2012
We are currently running a 10.7.4 Server with 10.7.4 clients. The problem is with the calendar system's sharing funtion. Some users will consistently receive an error message "403" Stating that the user does not have permission to edit the item when they edit an item or change an existing event to another user's shared calendar. After some troublshooting I found that if I made the claendar in question the default calendar in iCal, I was able to create vents without problem. I have tried removing the problemed users from that calendar's list of shared users, and changing permissions back and forth from Read to Read/Write without any success. There are no iCloud or MobileMe accounts on any of the client machines, a pertinent negative as searching for a resolution to this issue yeilds many similar problems related to those services. Â
Summary:Creating or editing an event in a shared calendar within iCal (while not the host of sdaid calendar) results in a error code 403. However, when the user in question changes their default calendar to the shared calendar, there is no issue creating new events. The issue is only persistant with a few users. Other users have no issue manipulting existing records in the same shared calendar. Â
Configuration:
OS X Lion Server (10.7.4)
iCal service is configured properly
Clients are all running 10.7.4Â

iTunes sees calendars we have set up in the office (those being shared, coming from iCal Server - Lion), but it will not sync that data to our iphones. I tried this at home where I have my personal computer's client iCal app get calendar data from our work server. It won't sync that either, though iTunes does see (in the sync list) the calendars.

I have set up a Mac Mini server to address the calendaring needs of my company. I have also turned on the iCal service using the Server app in the Lion OS. While the shared calendaring functions for individual users of iCal are great, my company is in need of general office calendar for postings of things like vacation times, company holidays, special conferences, etc. Is there a way to configure the Mac Mini server to allow the setup of such a calendar?

I run 10.6.8 server in a VM with Parallels Server for Mac. Lithium pinged me early Monday morning to tell me that my calendar server wasn't reachable. I found it had kernel panicked. After resetting it and verifying the directory structure and permissions, it booted fine. But availability or free/busy wasn't working for all users! The events were all there. Invites could be sent and received but when a user checks for availability when creating events. they see the daily work hours grayed out but not anything corresponding to a scheduling conflict. Â
Things I have Tried:
- bounced ical server
- Rebooted the server
- checked the owners and permissions for the data store hierarchy. (_calendar:_calendar 750)
- checked for xattrs on .ics files in several calendars
- deleted .db.sqlite for several users in several dir in their calendar stores
- in the past I have found that some iTIP invitations seem to get "stuck' causing problems with an individual users free/busy and deleting the inbox resolves this so I deleted several inboxes
-I moved a copy of the data store to a test server and pointed several clients at it.Â
The issue persisted in all of these cases without any change in behavior with one exception; somewhere (i lost track of where) during this process users also lost their delegation preferences. I'd love to find out how and where that is stored so that it can be restored in the future. It seems pretty fragile...Â
I found one way to restore the functionality; copying a users __uid__/<GUID>/calendar out. . Moving all the folders under <GUID> out of the way and dropping the .ics files into ical with their account configured in that instance. Although this worked for selected users, I have many, many users and calendars so this solution would be suboptimal. Â

I'm running 10.5.1 server on a G5 and plain old 10.5.2 on two other Macs. When I reboot the server, the other two Macs appear in the Shared section in the sidebar of a Finder window. I can mount their disks and share their screens.
After some indeterminate time (days, sometimes hours), they disappear from the sidebar. I can ping them and I can mount their file systems via "Connect to server ...", but I can't get to their screens. I have two PC's and a Linux box and they never disappear. And on each non-server Mac, the server and the other non are always there.
Why do my shared Macs vanish from the server?

new to this forum, here to seek some help. I would like to run ical server on my mac mini to synchronize my ical from my laptop and i would need to give access to my colleague for her to do some scheduling. Hmm, is it possible to do so on a mac mini? I was managing my ical previously via mobile me but my colleague can only read but not write directly. And i dont wish to accept the invites from her to add to my ical every time. Will running ical server do the job? and even if its on a mac mini?

is it possible to share a server calendar (read only) to a person that is not in the LDAP directory of the iCal server?
I can't find a way. Either in the sharing options I get a "?" at the user, or, if I take the complete URL I've to log in.
But I want to show this calendar to someone not inside the LDAP users (i.e. user@somewere.de instead of user@here.de)Â
My setup: iCal Server 10.7 connected to a LDAP masterserver.Â

I installed Lion Server on a MacMini to run a shared Wiki calendar, and all is quite well, I got the Wiki calendar page up and running and the iCal clients have successfully subscribed to it.The problem: external users can'tl log in from the internet. On our LAN they can reach the Wiki Home page at http://10.x.y.z/wiki but how do they log in from the internet ?We have a DynDNS host name, but [url] brings up an empty page.I forwarded port 8080 to our server. I did checkip -checkhostname and it looked alright to me. The server has a FQDN ourserver.name.private. that points to 10.x.y.z and the reverse lookup points to the server name.Â

Invitations for external (not users on the server) is not working. All mails are handled by ISP, including the iCal servers account. The "Allow invitations using email addresses" is checked, and setup with a working mail account at the ISP.  By looking in the logs for iCal Server I get this:[URL]This is leading me to think that the server must be trying to log in at the ISP with it's own credentials (given in the "Allow invitations..." setup) but trying to send with a users mailaddress as sender. This is of course not allowed by my ISP, since everyone could potentially send mails from each other, but how do I change iCal to send the invitations from iCals account?

We have installed a very new Mac mini 2011 with OS X Lion Server and we added four users there. This four users should share their calendars with each other so the system is designed as a CalDAV- and CardDAV-server. We have set up all necessary nameserver entries, installed all updates.Â
On our Lion workstations (Mac pro) we connected iCal with our new Lion Server, works like a charm, but only for two days.Â
Since yesterday we get 403 errors on MOVE (only). Means one creates a new entry at the calendar and try to "move" this entry to another users calendar. Immediately after storing we get "Server reports error" and "Answer: 403 in action CalDAVMoveEntityQueueableOperation" (translated from german). At the servers logfile we found only one entry per move which says:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - username [04/Apr/2012:19:23:20 +0200] "MOVE /calendars/__uids__/96C658FB-6B37-416D-B16C-7663E61E5770/60c71d0d-d3ac-4efd-8c2 6-5beb164c65c3/01F30AFE-6E4E-44AF-ABAF-4F051895E694.ics HTTP/1.1" 403 154 "-" "CalendarStore/5.0.2 (1166); iCal/5.0.2 (1571); Mac OS X/10.7.3 (11D50d)" i=2 t=48.5 or=1Â
We have checked all other logfiles and are unable to find any hint for this error.Yes the sharings are set well and we can reproduce this error. As an act of desperation we deleted all calendar entries, deleted users, restarted the server, re-created the users and calendars - same thing as before.Â

I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

SSL enabled for CalDav and Web -> iCal 3 does not connect?SSL for Web only: iCal can connect but Wiki calendars are not accesible (calendar permission is greyed out)?SSL disabled: everything is working?we run Lion Server 10.7.3 and a number of Lion clients and also a few Leopard clients.I thought that it should be possible to allow iCal 3 to connect without using SSL but I found no way doing this.It looks like the server enforces the use of SSL connections only and that iCal 3 does not support SSL.Â

I recently updated my Server running 10.7.0 to version 10.7.3 and single-sign-on no longer works for my users. The 10.7.3 Lion Server System is bound to our Active Directory Server running on Win2003 R2 Server. I tried un-binding and rebinding the system but.. no luck. When a user now tries to login to our shares via AFP with SSO credentials they recieve the message Â
I can run the id command from terminal on the OS X server and it is seeing AD users. Unfortunately, no one can log into the server shares via AFP with an AD user.Â

I am desperate for help because whatever I do I cannot get my own certificates to work. When I first set up Lion Server a so-called Intermediate CA and a corresponding SSL server certificate was automatically installed and that works fine. Now, I wanted to create my own Certificate Authority (CA) and a leaf SSL server certificate.[URL]First I created my own CA, and then I created a new certificate with the Server App (ID type "leaf", certificate type "SSL server". (see screenshots below), and I had it signed by my own CA. When I checked the certificate it said "valid".Next, I exported the certificate from the keychain (as .p12) and then I went to Server App's "Import a certificate identity" to drag and drop the certificate onto the window. So far so good.
When I opened the list of certificates (Server App -> Hardware -> SSL -> Edit ) the new certificate showed up once, and after the Server App had tried to install the certificate it simply did not show up any more. I have copied the important parts of the certificate below (private parts have been cropped). The common name and the DNS name are "myserver.domain.private", and yes, DNS is working fine.(I stopped started services and re-booted in between creating and importing the new certificate.)Â

Since installing Filemaker Server 12 on our Lion Server 10.7.3, the Webmail is no longer working. I know with previous installations of Filemaker Server I have been asked whether I wanted to keep the system version of PHP or install PHP which comes with Filemaker Server, but I don't recall being prompted about it on this occasion. Previously I had always opted to retain the system PHP.
[code]...
And from the WAN I get just a screen saying webmail is turned off and that I can turn it on by using the Server app on the server (It is already checked in the server app).Â

With any Unix machine, one can run at the command line:- apachectl -S This will show all virtual servers configured in Apache, and will break if there are any obvious problems in the httpd .conf files. It's very handy for testing a new configuration before restarting the server. With Mac OS X Server though, this doesn't work properly. Sure, I can run that command and see a virtual server or two, but with the introduction of the server Apache wrappers, the command line tools read a very different configuration than the `serveradmin` tool does.
e.g. Wrappers like:-<IfDefine MACOSXSERVER>
....
</IfDefine>
or <IfDefine WEBSERVICE_ON>
[code]....
ps. Running `sudo serveradmin stop web && sudo serveradmin start web` really compared to `apachectl graceful`; it's painfully slow and doesn't provide a way to test a custom configuration before attempting to restart.

not quite so dire if you clicked this wondering ??? And why is this bing posted on Server forum? Well it happens to be on a server and I am trying to iron out what happens when you completely trash the system and start over. This problem occured in a subdirectory on one folder. It (the triangles ->) are there for all the other folders. However, there is one folder I had on a backup (backup, meaning still being a previous version of Lion) that at one point that any group of folders I place into it. there is no browsing triangle that lets you go down furthur. Yes you can open the folder and go further in, so its not prefs that I am aware of. Â
At this level...Triangles Here Still? Triangles still here. (Must say in Cookie Monster voice if you've watched the "Cookies done yet" bit you might giggle or at least be mildly annoyed.)
If you browse from this part of the hierarchy you get the expected behavior...Triangles Here Still? Triangles still here. however if you open the folder here is what you get...Triangles Here Still? (uh oh).
[Code]...
Anyway, sorry for the "less professional" candor of this post, but I have kids and a wife, and they think I am boring at times, and I love them - and while I am struggling with this, I am thinking of them, and obviously not with them. Ok Universe, this is where I need you the most: I'm counting on you do to something or say something to make it all better. Ok...Go

I know this issue is kind of old, but there are so many flavors of it, that it is hard to find exact match. I've been having problems with single account, and it happens that this account has admin rights. Emails get pulled/deleted from user's mailbox within 10 secs after arrival. There are no other devices that may be pulling those emails, however, I've noticed something strange in the logs:
Jun 4 13:47:43 osxserver dovecot[173]: imap-login: Login: user=<xxxx>, method=CRAM-MD5, rip=192.168.0.123, lip=192.168.0.123, mpid=406, securedÂ
I don't know if this event is normal to run on server itself, but seems it runs only for this one account that I'm having problems with. There is no imap client setup on that server, and based on my time stamps observations I'm pretty much convinced that's what's deleting my emails.

The girlfriend and I are consolidating machines and want to try a software based approach instead of a plug and swap approach. My goal is to have only a Desktop + iPad and she have her MacBook. The issue is that we also want to keep it limited to one monitor, etc. on the desk but she is in grad school and will have need for the larger screen and keyboard. My question is can I set up her laptop to use a Mobile Account and assuming she logs off on that before going onto the Server, can she then log in to the Server desktop and use that Mobile Account locally there? So sometimes use the Mobile Account on the laptop, Sometimes on the Desktop. From my days managing a small network, this seems plausible but could also be fraught with problems.
