Im trying to get all of my itunes and files onto my PC from my mac. Would the best way to do this be through an external hard drive? Will the external hd be cross compatible? I can't do it with an iPod becuase it's formatted differently right?

This, of course, results in having two copies of each song after the import is done. Before I disable this option I'd like to know what you think are the pros and cons of having this option enabled/disabled.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Lacie external hard disk that was originally formatted for PCs. I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod.
The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod?
I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldn�t be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I didn�t want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to �look for� every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. I don�t know if I was able to make my question really clear�

I need space on my computer - video files take up most space and I have a bunch of music videos in my iTunes library. My question is -Â
If I upgrade to iTunes Match - would that mean I can then delete files on my computer in my iTunes library and still access them later?
I want to transfer my iTunes files from a PC to an external hard drive, and then I want to run iTunes on a Mac PowerBook from the external hard drive. Getting the files on the external hard drive doesn't seem too hard. I'm just not sure about what I need to do for the second part. Also, will any external HD work for this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been removing a bunch of bloat from the iTunes library, and one of the things I did was transcode my 10 GB or so of lossless audio to 256 kbps VBR, then delete the lossless files. The problem is that since the transcode creates new copies of the audio files, I ended up with

Once the transcode was complete, I deleted all of the original lossless files from library and my computer, but I can't get rid of the 1 on the end of the remaining filenames. I seem to remember File -> Library -> Consolidate Library to have worked on an earlier version of iTunes, but it doesn't seem to do anything now. My library is set to keep things organized, but that doesn't seem to be working for files already in the library.
this morning i was adding some mp3's to my itunes library, the same way i have been doing it for the last 2 years. all of a sudden my itunes just stopped adding my songs i tried importing it i tried dragging and dropping , literally everything i could think of, i never used a mp3 converter for my songs before , so i highly doubt i need one now, since i have been downloading my music in the same way for the last 2 years. how i can get my itunes to add my music again ?

I am trying to download audio books from my public library and then install them on my mp3 player. the file format is odm.
What is the process for doing this and what software is required?

-At home I already own a 5 year old Mac Book Pro, upgradable to Lion, beat up on the outside, could change hard drive myself. Â
-Also own a iMac which has a new 1TB hard drive I put in there. This machine is not upgradable to Lion. Connected to this iMac is a 1TB external back up drive which backs up this iMac. Â
I have right now about 75GB of music in my iTunes right now (on MacBookPro), plus about 600 Cds to be ripped and imported at some point. I am considering using Amazon Music Cloud or iTunes Match at some point but....I may will still want to have a backup of my music anyway? and it may be I may not like playing music off of clouds? (because it relies on my intenert connection....)Â
So if I was to store my music collection.....should it be on:Â -The old iMac; use it as a jukebox? Can I control the iMac and its iTunes from new laptop? (iMac is 10.4.8 which may have sharing limits?)-Is this practical? Â

I purchased songs from iTunes Store. Files are on my computer, but did not automatically go to my Library. So tried to manually drag and drop files to my Library and they still won't go there. The songs will only play in my Purchase List and Recently Added. I turned off iTunes Match and Genius and still no luck.

I have an older MPB (mid-2009) and an new MBA (late-2010). Planning on getting a new MBA after Mountain Lion comes out sometime in July. That means moving files from the MPB and the MBA over to the new MBA at some point. In preparation of that I want to get all my iTunes files onto the current MBA. Trouble is that I have used both the MBP & MBA to import music or videos as well as purchases into iTunes on both.
Without totally screwing things up what is the best way to get iTunes files (purchased or imported) from one Mac to the other without losing or corrupting things? I already have a problem that there are movies on my iPhone4 that will not remove even though they are not checked when I sync. How do you join iTunes from 2 Mac's? Do you have to deauthorise one?

in the past I was able to add files to apps on the iPad (who offered that option) via the Apps tab on the device and then selecting "add files". The apps menu has disappeared from iTunes 12, so is there still a way for me to load documents into the app via iTunes? Or did Apple just break the ability to move files and out of apps on iOS?

The description tells me to go to itunes and select the apps tap and at the bottom of the page there is "file sharing" section. Then just select oplayer hd in the list and add files from there. My problem is that I cannot find the file sharing section at the bottom of my itunes.

yesterday i downloaded itunes/quicktime updates, restarted. today i went to play music and got the (!) icon on all of my music. i did a spotlight search for songs/artists, returned no results... where did my music go? 6k songs are missing!
I didn't delete my music, I checked my trash, which hasn't been emptied in a few days. the last time i listened to music with itunes was yesterday.
iTunes 9 won't play any .m4p songs withough them skipping and itunes freezing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, I ripped my DVD's of Battlestar Galactica to iTunes. I select them all and get info and change metadata. All of them change except for one file, that refuses to change. in this case, the album artwork won't change from the first frame of the video to the DVD case picture from Amazon.
I did them all at the same time and all in handbrake, but this one file just won't accept the change. I've checked the file permissions and it seems to be set correctly.
I have another ripped CD that no matter what I do, none of the songs will accept changes to their metadata.
Anyone seen this? Solutions? I tried deleting it from itunes and re-adding it but still no joy. At a loss?!
So I deleted the Plist files because iTunes would constantly crash when it was "processing" the TV show I was downloading after it reached 100% on the download. SO very annoying. Didn't realize deleting the Plist files also deletes all of the preferences and just about everything else except the music, video, etc. files themselves. So I have all of my iTunes files on my external hard drive where they have always been, but how do I point iTunes to it?

I just dragged a bunch of mp3s to my iTunes. It added them because I saw it saying "copying files" and then "determining volume."But they aren't in my library!I closed iTunes and opened again. Not there.I used iVolume and it sees them and adjusts the volume.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOk so yesterday I logged into my account on my computer and clicked itunes to open it. Instead of going to my library it said It cannot find my music library and told me to locate it. I clicked "Locate" and it went to my finder. We have had an external drive for the the past 6 months and I had been storing all my itunes on the external drive AND on the normal hard drive. So when I clicked the locate button, I chose the itunes library in my external library. Now my library is setup like it was about 2 years ago, complete with ipod nano games, playlist, and songs I have deleted. when I click a song to play it says "Cannot locate file." If i go into the finder and find the normal hard drive, and go into itunes media, I can double click the songs and play the songs in itunes. So I have no idea why all this happened but Is the only way to get all my songs back, to delete all the songs that cannot be l0 located and drag my whole library thats stored on my normal hard drive into itunes?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have the vast majority of my iTunes library on a NAS device. When I first got my MBP I set the library's location to the folder that I had moved off one of the desktops to the NAS. Everything works fine.
However, it seems that the library location will reset itself to the local location on the MBP (possibly whenever I run iTunes when I'm not on this network). So, if I add files to the iTunes when I'm not on this network, they get placed into the local library.
every time I drop and drag files they auto play once completed how to disable that?

For some weird reason iTunes starts to add every file twice. And I don't mean that it just keep the original, it actually adds the file two times in the iTunes Music folder.
I just added 300 Beatles Songs but now it added every single song twice...I have 600 songs now. This happened now and then before and its REALLY annoying. Especially when I need to delete every single file manually. The show duplicates just shows both files but I still need to highlight every 2nd file and then delete it.
I am completely new to all things mac and I've just brought the new MacBook, so please speak in simple terms when replying!
