Applications :: ITunes Keep Adding Files Twice?

Dec 15, 2009

I have a MacBook Pro with Leopard and the latest iTunes.

For some weird reason iTunes starts to add every file twice. And I don't mean that it just keep the original, it actually adds the file two times in the iTunes Music folder.

I just added 300 Beatles Songs but now it added every single song twice...I have 600 songs now. This happened now and then before and its REALLY annoying. Especially when I need to delete every single file manually. The show duplicates just shows both files but I still need to highlight every 2nd file and then delete it.

Applications :: Adding Files To Multiple ITunes Libraries?

Oct 3, 2010

Is there a way to add files to multiple iTunes libraries simultaneously?

I currently store all my media on a network drive; so I don't want to copy the same file to multiple locations. Instead, after the DVD is ripped I'd like to have the movie added to two different libraries. Simply copying the iTunes library from my primary computer won't work. The library on my primary computer, has all my personal song ratings and playlists. The second computer is connected to a TV to be used as a HTPC and is more of a family computer. I would like to be able to maintain different playlists for this computer.

Essentially is there an easy way to make sure any new files added (or modified) to my primary iTunes library are also added to another iTunes library?

OS X :: Adding Files To ITunes...Does It Copy The Media? Or Just The Location?

May 22, 2010

I am still pretty new to Mac and OSX and i had a question about itunes.

Ok, So if i add say 1 album and 1 Movie. Lets say the the album is in My Music folder and the Movie is in My Movies folder.

Now if i go to add to library in iTunes and add them then i am done. If i go and delete the 2 files from the folders i notice that the album and movie is still in itunes and still playable? How is that if i deleted them from the folders on my Mac?

Does iTunes actually COPY the movie and music i add to its own folder? so that way if i do delete it from my mac, its still in a iTunes folder somewhere?

Like with windows, WMP copies the location of that media, So if i add a album and later delete it from my PC and go and try to play it in WMP, it will say NOT FOUND or just no longer show it.

Reason i ask this is because i do not want to have double of everything on my HD and take up more space then i should...

Applications :: Adding Notes / Comments To Files In Finder?

Apr 17, 2010

I don't mean tags, but short comments attached visually to files within the Finder? like a sticky note. I have huge image archives, and want to add short comments to certain pics / files, which are visible by an icon as I scroll through.

I'm not after a third-party solution, I prefer to access my images via Finder (which I find the best and least-fuss image browser since Snow Leopard), just wondered if anyone had made such an app?

Applications :: Adding Folders To ITunes (Not As Easy)

Mar 23, 2009

I want to add 18 cd's in one folder to iTunes so I just dragged the folder into iTunes but iTunes took every song and placed it as an album instead of making it a compilation. Is there a way I can take all the songs of one cd and turn them into a compilation without having to "get info" every file? Cos now I have 300+ albums all with one song since the artists are all different. I know I can get the info per file and change it there but I don't wanna do that for all those songs.

Applications :: Adding Second External Hard Drive In ITunes

Dec 6, 2008

I'm on Tiger 10.4.11, and the latest iTunes. I have an external hard drive on which I keep all my music files, managed by iTunes. I'm running out of room on that drive. At some point, it is not practical to keep increasing the size of the drive, as the reliability goes down. I'd like to keep my drives to 1TB or so. So, the other solution is to add a second external hard drive, where all new music files can go to. How to do it, so iTunes doesn't freak out? Here's what I'm thinking - could you guys help make it work?

I thought to add the second drive and then in iTunes preferences -->Advanced---> iTunes Music folder location CHANGE to the NEW drive. That way, I'd have iTunes copy all new music to the NEW DRIVE. Question: Now, how do I go about having iTunes reference files on the FIRST drive, so that the Library is up to date, and when I select something to play from the FIRST drive, iTunes knows how to find it?

Applications :: ITunes Not Adding / Play Music - Played In Past

Jan 18, 2009

I've run into an odd problem where iTunes (v8.0.2.20 Windows Vista) will not add, play or do anything with audio files (mp3) that it has previously played in the past (same version of iTunes). It played it one day, then the album disappeared and will not allow it to be added again, it does how ever work perfectly in Quicktime player, Winamp, WMP and other players. When I use Add Folder to Library, I get a quick "Processing files" dialogue, then it disappears (Same if I drag the folder into the library itself), and when I try to play the files individually, nothing happens at all. I've tried everything short of reencoding the files, which I want to save as a last resort (So as to not lose audio quality) and Ripping the CD again isn't an option since I no longer have the original after my car was broken into.

Applications :: ITunes Library Management - Adding Movie And TV Shows

Aug 6, 2010

I now want to add my video media library to iTunes so that all my digital media will be in one place, and I can organize and search shows by genre, artist, etc. First, all my videos are .avi, so I figured that since iTunes accepts only .mp4 I have to convert ALL of them which will take SOO LONG. Any easy way of batch converting? Should I even store my videos and tv shows in iTunes, or do people do it differently? (I want to do something other than just putting them in folders)

But my main question is, because I store all these videos on an external drive, I simply want to link them to iTunes and keep them in their original paths, since they won't fit locally. I can accomplish this by simply un-checking the advanced preference option of copying the files to the default location, but that means I have to turn this off and then back on each time I want to import video. I understand this is not a HUGE deal but wanted to see if this was the proper/most efficient way of going about this.

Applications :: Adding To An Existing Itunes Folder On External Hard Drive?

Jan 15, 2009

Okay here's the thing: I (not so long ago) copied my entire itunes library to my external hard drive. Now I have updated my itunes library on my powerbook, and want to make sure that I back up the new songs/albums I have. The problem with this is that I have always found that when I drag the itunes folder from my powerbook to the itunes folder on my external drive, it asks to 'replace the itunes music folder'. I don't want this as there are some albums that I have stored in my folder but not on my itunes library and still want to keep them stored.

Is there any way that I could just keep adding to the 'existing' itunes folder on my external drive?

OS X :: Adding / Removing Files From MP3 Player

Feb 4, 2010

My System: Mac Mini running OSX 10.5.8. This is a Pentium processor based device and I have 1 gb of ram a 60 gig hard drive and using a seagate 1.5 TB external for all my media and documents. I am also using a windows system keyboard and mouse (I just replaced my old windows system with the Mac Mini). I have two mp3 players: The first one is made by LG (its sold under a different brand name but it was built by LG) the device shows in the finder's "get info" as MS-DOS (FAT32) format and has 4gb storage space. The other is sold under the Disney brand name the format is MS-DOS (FAT16) it has 1gb of storage space.

I am using each as a USB mass storage when adding and removing mp3 files. I am used to doing this in the windows environment, and I realize that the OSX environment is not the same so I am confused as to how I can successfully delete files from the devices and add new files to the devices. So far this is what I am doing

1. Tether device with USB cable.
2. Open device in Finder window.
3. Highlight files I would like to remove then select "move to trash".
4. Select "empty trash" to clear space on device.

At this point the finder window will show the space has been freed on the device for me to add new files. When I attempt to do so the device says there is not enough free space to do so. Please save the "get an ipod" comments. These devices are for my 10 year old and 8 year old, they were gifts they received and I am not going to buy a new device for them.

ITunes For Mac :: Unresponsive When Adding To Library?

Aug 22, 2014

last week I have begun getting problems whenever I attempt to add folders of music to my iTunes library.  Until now, I have been able to add large folders of music to iTunes, no problem.  Now it seems that no matter what the size of the folder, it goes to the rainbow color wheel as if it is loading, and ultimately freezes without adding anything to iTunes.

I have made sure I have the most recently updated version of iTunes, and that there are no random files within the folder (i.e.  .dat's or .m3u's, etc.), just mp3's. But it still continues to freeze and become unresponsive every time.

iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

ITunes :: New Folder Created Upon Adding New Songs

Jul 25, 2010

Upon adding new songs to my library, iTunes creates a new folder, gives it the same name as the folder "above" and adds the songs I want to add in this new folder. I deleted the whole library. I have a folder "Greatest hits" with about 20 subfolders for each artist. I added the folder "Greatest hits" to the iTunes library, Itunes creates a new folder for every individual artists in the root directory, copies the songs as well but the cover jpg remains in the "old" folder...
What to do?

OS X :: Stop ITunes From Adding Songs Automatically?

I've been trying to figure out how to sort this for ages now, and I just can't get to the bottom of it to save my life. This is the situation. I've just downloaded an album, and it ended up in my Downloads folder, so I moved it to the desktop, then played one of the songs in the album. s soon as I played the song, it opened up in iTunes and then automatically added the song to the music library. I don't want it to do that, I've spent the last couple of hours sorting out my library, adding album artwork, name changes etc and the last thing I need is things getting automatically added to the music library and cluttering and messing things up.

OS X :: Adding Subtitles To ITunes Downloaded Movies?

Dec 21, 2009

I just downloaded iSubtitle, having seen it advertised on Apple's website...I bought it thinking it would be a good way to add external .SRT files to my iTunes purchased movies as my GF is Chinese and we like to watch movies together...fail...it is actually a brilliant little piece of software and it works wonderfully with any other kind of movie file apart from DRM encoded iTunes movies.

So what are my options? Is there a way to remove DRM from iTunes downloaded movies? Should I go back to buying physical DVD's and ripping them with Handbrake? Apple have really pissed me off here for the first time...It's not like I'm wanting to do anything illegal here, just watch iTunes purchased movies with my GF using subtitles that Apple are stupidly not offering in the first place.
