OS X V10.7 Lion :: Why Do Messages Disappear After Read Them In Mac Mail
Mar 7, 2012I have set up my email account in Entourage and in Mac Mail. It is a Rackspace email account. I can retrieve messages from my email account in both programs. When I read a message in Mac Mail, it immediately disappears after I close the message. The messages remain in my Entourage inbox. In other words, after they are read, POOF! it's as if they never existed in Mac Mail. Â
Is there a setting I am missing? why this would happen in Mac Mail but not Entourage?Â

Jun 28, 2014I'm having some issues with my Macbook Pro that just arose today. Randomly, when I'm on Safari, the screen will flash a little and the icons at the bottom will disappear. They will come back in a couple seconds and pop-ups that I usually only get when I first log on will appear. Safari also refreshes the page I was viewing. I did a little research and thought the issue might be google drive, but I do not have it installed on my Mac.

Apr 22, 2012Some of my desktop icons "disappear" intermittently ( not always the same icon(s)). still appears but the icon is blank. I can still click on the blank spot and the app will launch.
Oh and my personal "Avatar" photo also reverts to an earlier choice ( intermittently ) as well. Can change it to the one I want to use but it reverts back to the old picture also from time to time ...

Jan 27, 2009All the documents, files and icons displayed on my desktop keep disappearing and then reappearing whenever I do anything - though especially when I save or update something, create a new folder or rename a document/file. Sometimes they don't reappear at all and I am forced to restart the system.
I use a Mac Mini Power PC G4 (1.2) with OS X 10.4.11 and I have an external hard drive which I use to save most of my files and documents onto.

Jul 25, 2010I just got a new flash drive and it worked fine on my iMac yesterday, and now suddenly it no longer appears on the Desktop or anywhere else on the computer that I can find. But when I pulled it out of the USB drive, it said the device was not removed properly, so it must have recognized something was connected.

May 3, 2012I have a bunch of flash drives I need to format for work, and we want to put our company logo as the icon for each drive. We wanted to format them as MS-Dos Fat so that they'll be readable and writeable on both Mac and Windows computers. But when I format them that way and change the icon, it displays as a generic preview JPEG image instead of the real image or even the default hard drive icon.Â

I managed to fix it so the icon will display properly in Snow Leopard, but in Lion the drive still mounts with the generic Preview thumbnail.Â
Is there any way I can easily format a flash drive so that a) it will be readable and writeable on Windows and OSX machines and b) have the icon for the drive appear correctly on Lion, Snow Leopard, and windows machines?Â

Jun 30, 2012The Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.

Jul 26, 2010I've been using my MacBook Pro for about five months with no problems. It's equiped with VMWare Fusion, and I do most of my work there in windows. Saturday, morning, all of a sudden, I started getting the "application quit unexpectedly message" with nearly every application I tried to open in both platforms (Safari and the entry to VMWare). I haven't added any software/hardware lately, and the computer worked well Friday evening.
Any clues as to how I might resolve the situation from here would be greatly appreciated.

Jul 18, 2010I am running mac os X version 10.5.8 and I find that mail will download not all my mail and will not send from any of my mailboxes.
I have set up mail with my googlemail account my mobileme account and my yahoo accounts. all are set up as stp and I have set them up according to all the online help lines. I have had mail set up for many months now, and have been trying to fix this problem for a long time now off and on.
One thing that I have tried is changing the outgoing port number from the default to 587, but still no joy.

Feb 9, 2010watch Youtube vids using H.264 MP4 codec instead of flash. As most of the videos I watch are recent uploads (last year or so) they have SQ and HQ H.264 version available. As Flash eats up system resources worse then anything I can think of at the moment, I am trying to find a way to force the videos to play in MP4 format. I know ClicktoFlash has this option for Safari, but I am trying to find out if there are any other ways to do this without user input (for playlists). I use YousableTubeFixURL for Chrome and Firefox which has the option to do this, but no matter what option I choose, it always plays using Flash. I know FF doesnt have a built in MP4 player, but I though I heard of a way to get VLC or Quicktime to play it.

Feb 8, 2010I have upgraded from a OX 2.8 to 3.9. I now have to use two browsers to use the internet. Safari to have access to my yahoo mail account, and fire fox 2.020 to load information on my business website.
I have not been able to use shockwave flash or flash player on the up load. When I was using OSX 2.8 I could add pictures to my business website and etc., I had no problem viewing the slide show I had on my website, other than the system was a little slow. I have an ibook G3 128 +512 ram, total. 900 mhz, 12. inches and white case. The systems requirements indicate that I need to upgrade to tiger OSX 4.0
I know there are some issues using Fire Fox with OSX 3.9. When ever I tried to access my yahoo mail from Fire fox, the system would crash.
Other than getting a new laptop, any suggestions? I tried to down load Shock wave from the old apps web site called Camino. I get an error message that the plug in cannot be loaded sussfully I have tried load flash Player 7.09, but get a message that it can not load. Could this be because of not enough space on the drive. Maybe I am not loading it correctly. Shouldn't I be able to click it to install it in the right place without having to try the different files.

OS X :: Applications Disappear From 10.5.8?
Apr 14, 2010Yesterday, around 6 pm, I lost two Applications: Adium (an IM client), and Adobe Acrobat. Adium was open at the time. I received an IM message, went to click on it, and nothing happened. Then I noticed the icon was grayed out. I opened Applications folder and it was gone. A spotlight search revealed nothing.
Just now I noticed Adobe Acrobat was missing. A look at Time Machine told me that it happened between two consecutive updates at 3:45 and 7:30 pm yesterday, so I assume it happened roughly the same time Adium blinked out of existence.
but it seemed related to an OS X update issue. I have a unibody macbook (not pro) that shipped with 10.5 and the only only updates I have done are minor (to 10.5.8).
A disk utility scan verified my drive as being OK and a virus scan with Clam AV (just to be safe) revealed nothing.

Jan 11, 2011I was using a program which opened my console and then I noticed in my console had messages referring to a couple of programs I removed a long time ago by dragging them to the Trash. It seems to be reporting thousands of messages every minute for one of the programs with the message "User or app not found." recurring.
This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?
