Mac :: Is There A App Or Screensaver To Monitor Built In Isight Without People Knowing

Mar 6, 2009

i leave for long periods at work. I have to step away from my computer. And to be honest I don't trust anybody in my office. Is there an app for like that iphone that I can use to connect to my laptop at work to monitor the isight and listen into the mic without the green light going off?I would love to know if such an app exists or if theres a possible way to do this w/o people know my laptop is in surveillance mode.

Intel Mac :: How To Call People From Built-in Speakers

Apr 7, 2012

how you can call people from Skype™ with no microphone, but only from speakers? My friend wants to know this, he apparently wants to use some soundboard, and if you call from your speakers, the person you are calling can only hear the soundboard but nothing else like background noise or anything.

He's been bugging me to find this out, lol. He has a MacBook Pro 15" OS X Lion.

PowerPC :: How To Turn Off G5 (No ISight) Built In Display

Jan 28, 2010

I have an out-of-warranty 2005 iMac G5 running OS X 10.5 in my bedroom. The screen is very unreliable to the point where it stayed off all the time or gave weird colors and I had to purchase an external monitor (via mini-VGA). I have installed (successfully) spanning tools to allow both extended desktop (2 dual monitors) and mirrored display (2 monitors showing same thing).

However, after hooking up the external display, the iMac's bright display lights up my bedroom. I want to turn OFF my built-in display (i.e. no backlight) and have my external monitor act as my main display --- avoids having two displays eating electricity. Is this possible? (using any Terminal commands?) I don't want the computer to sleep, just to turn off the main display (even manually removing wires will work, if I can find a how-to guide on this!)

MacBook Pro :: How To Get The 1280 By 1024 Stream From Built In ISight

May 31, 2010

I've been looking around all afternoon and can't seem to find out how to get the built-in iSight on the new 15 inch April 2010 MacBook Pros to take pictures and record at 1280 by 1024.

I've seen numerous places link me to Mac Daddy World, but that test app is only yielding 640 by 480.

Many places have also recommended to use Quartz Composer, but my knowledge of the program is limited, and I was still only able to get a 640 by 480 stream.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but it seems on my system if the screensaver runs then the monitor sleeps, the screensaver is still running when i go to wake the monitor. does that mean its been running the whole time wasting cpu cycles and drawing more power than is necessary? you'd think it would stop.

OS X :: Cursor Disappears After Screensaver / Monitor Sleep?

Feb 22, 2008

Here's a weird problem I just got on a new (refurb) MBP.

Sometimes (not always) when I comeback to my MacBook after it's gone to screensaver then display sleep (though not full system sleep) the cursor is invisible upon wake.

I know the cursor is still there, but it just can't be seen on screen. If I go down to one of my hot corners, the associated action still happens (in my case sleep the display / activate screensaver -how ironic ), and if I roll over the dock I can bring it up and magnify the icons as I roll over them.... all with no visible cursor whatsoever.

In fact, I only get a cursor once I click on an app and either launch it or bring it up from being minimized / hidden.

This has never happened on any machine I've had before, but by all indications it's a software problem, nothing to do with the hardware.

It's a new 15" MBP 2.2 Ghz, 4GB Ram running Leopard 10.5.2 with all updates (even the recent keyboard update).

A search on this brought up someone else on another board with the same problem, but then the issue got clouded with discussion of dual-monitors or external displays (neither of which I use).

I'm going to go fix permissions right now, but I was hoping somebody here could ID this and help me figure it out.

OS X :: IMac G5 17" ISight - Monitor Won't Turn On?

Jul 10, 2009

iMac G5 17" iSight
1.83GHz
2GB 667MHz SDRAM

My monitor has turned off and will not come back on. Clicking noises and a slow operating speed occurred a few days ago. I have tried this SMU Reset Process below:

from [URL]

1. Turn off the computer by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu, or by holding the power button until the computer turns off.

2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.

3. Wait 10 seconds.

4. Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.

5. Let go of the power button.

6. Press the power button once more to start up your iMac.

Upon completing step 6, the computer turns on only to feature the fans spinning at maximum speed and still no monitor display.

Is this a Logic Board issue? The iMac was purchased for $1700 in 2006. Would repair costs be so high that just buying a new iMac would be the better way to go?

OS X :: IMac Resolution For Old People?

May 14, 2010

So my parents just bought a 21.5" iMac which has replaced their aging PC that came with a CRT(!!). The first thing they noticed was that the resolution is too high. Obviously, lowering this makes everything blurry but of course, no such problem with the CRT where they had nice big text and icons.

Surely there must be a way around this? Some software solution perhaps? They've zoomed in with Safari but that doesn't help the rest of the system and is a real pain to do it for every individual app.

Its understandably difficult for them to understand why something so many years advanced of what they had, can't do something so simple as changing resolutions. I even had a hard time exaplaining that this was an LCD issue, and nothing to do with a mac.
