Mar 7, 2009I installed Acrobat but does OSX come with a native PDF viewer already?

View 15 RepliesSometime in the last several months, Safari (now at v5.1.2) on my Mac (OS X 10.6.8) stopped being able to view PDFs natively. It will download PDFs if I make it do that, and then I can open them in Preview or Acrobat. But when I try to open any PDF from any website within the browser, I get a blank page (or the current page) with the PDF control bezel overlay, which looks like this:
But the PDF content never appears in the browser. This happens with any PDF file, such as the one at [URL]
The Adobe PDF plugin was removed from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins a long time ago. So that is not the cause of the problem.
Google's Chrome browser will display PDFs in the browser. Firefox will download them and open them in Preview. It is only Safari that is giving me trouble.
Here are my hardware specs:
Mac Pro 1,1
NVidia 7300GT (I need a new video card, anyone want to sell me one? [=)
2 x Samsung Synmaster 2494SW (native resolution 1920x1080)
Update:
I booted into windows 7 and I am now able to get both native resolutions.
Though, I am still unable to get both native resolutions (using DVI to DVIs) inside OS X for some reason. In OS X my second monitor is displayed as "VGA Display" and it completely black.
I am not sure why it works in bootcamp using Windows 7, but not in Snow Leopard. I am guessing this is a problem with the OS X configuration.
The new OCZ enterprise drives offer native AES encryption, it seems the key is based off your bios password. Now tell me if this will work on the 2010 minis and EFI firmware password?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am connecting my Macbook on my HD TV but the osx does not detect the appropriate native resolution. MY Samsung TV has a native resolution of 1365x768 but the osx only detects and offers 1280 or 1920 (they both look really bad on my TV). I used a mini-DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI cable. I also tried, without success, to create specific display settings using SwitchResX and DisplayConfigX. (10.5.2) I know that there is not a big difference between 1280 and 1365 but still, it's very annoying espacially that I my old PC with XP detected the right resolution as soon as connected it...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Hyundai W240D 24" LCD monitor and it works perfectly in Windows Vista SP2 64 bit running under Boot Camp but when I restart the computer to use Mac OS X it only shows 1920 x 1080 as the maximum resolution rather than 1920 x 1200. I have zapped the PRAM, repaired disk permissions and run fsck -f in single user mode and still the problem persists. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac mini (older Intel 965 graphics chipset, not current Nvidia), which I'd like to use as a PVR system, recording live TV, playing back video on my TV, etc. I have a Hauppauge card to capture the digital TV stream (I'm in the UK - freeview). Is there a system like MythTV for Mac OS X, that is a bit more polished (and that will make use of my current hardware)? I've tried using MythTV under Linux, and while it works, it's very unpolished. I can't find anything better that's even Mac-only.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have recently switched platform from Win XP machine to Mac (MBP w/ OS X 10.5.5). I have license for Photoshop CS3 on Win. Cost or switching to native Mac version of CS4 (can't migrate CS3... need to upgrade + migrate) is approximately same as purchasing Parallels or Fusion plus WinXP to run my current Win CS3 version. I am satisfied with CS3 and don't look forward to learning modified interface and tools of CS4. I think it will come down to speed. Will native Mac CS4 run faster than comparable program w/ Win on Mac (Parallels or VM Fusion)?
View 6 Replies View RelatedBy that I mean, are there three resolutions for the 24" LED ACD that are not blurry, or will every resolution other than 1920 by 1200 look bad? I was hoping to run it at 1280 by 800 to increase the font size and help my utterly horrible eyes.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI read this in a post elsewhere and am looking for a new 24 inch + monitor on a budget. I could ideally use the monitor for music work on my mac, my xbox and snes and for watching tv. "If I may offer one bit of advice about LCD monitors is that they only run optimally in their native resolution. You will need to get a large enough monitor to support this resolution for comfortable viewing or you can end up with tiny desktop icons. Reducing the resolution will likely degrade image quality." What does this mean given I have the unibody macbook pro 2.8 released around christmas 2008 with the best the better graphics card (whichever one that was).
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhich will perform better on wow or any game, an imac 20inch or 24inch with the same spec of 2.66ghz 9400m 4gb memory?
They're both are almost identical but the native resolutions are different.I'm comparing a 20inch imac resolution 1680by1050 to a 24inch 1920by1200.
So I'm guessing the 9400m will do better on a 20inch imac right?
Since the 9400m is not all that powerful so I'm guessing it can't do well on the 1920by1200 when gaming ?
Here is what I am working with.
White MacBook (Late 2007)
Sylvania 22" LCD TV (1366X768 resolution)
Mini-DVI to HDMI
SwitchResX
So the problem is that the native resolution of the TV isn't a normal one. Called Apple. No help. Called Sylvania. Told me to call Apple. I've tried using SwitchResX to set the resolution to 1366X768 and have tried variations found on other websites (1368, 1360) but every time I restart it reverts back to 1080i. While 1080i works, the problem is that it is very hard on my eyes, and the text is hard to read, something I am assuming will hopefully be fixed when I get it to work at the native resolution.
i have read the old thread but it seams very risky and dangerous. is this way safe? [URL]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently noticed that when finder is invoked from other programs, for example gmail attachment dialogue box, the icons look noticeably bigger than if finder was opened on its own. I have no clue why this is happening.
Please take a look at the attached file. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I routinely transfer files bigger than 4GB between Windows and OSX. Right now I use ntfs-3g and macfuse. It seems to work, but every now and then I get file transfer errors, like error -36. The jump drives are fine, and the files are OK since I can transfer them to the PCs without a problem. With the "hack" that enables native NTFS R/W for Snow Leopard, I notice people have to enter the UUID of each volume for it to automount. Isn't there a way to set it up so one can just pop a jump drive in and have it automount? I'm dealing with DV files, and each machie is on a different network - different site so I'm pretty much stuck using removable drives.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was waiting to buy a new Macbook Pro but as soon as they were released today I said "meh" and decided maybe I should buy a brand new iMac and keep my Early 08 MBP. I want to get a new Mac in preparation for the upcoming launch of Steam on OS X and just because mine is long in the tooth for Windows gaming.
Anyways... I just had a thought and was wondering if any owners could clear it up. The resolution on the 27 i7 Quad Core seems ENORMOUS for a middle-grade ATI GPU. Are you able to game on high settings for semi-modern games like L4D2, TF2, etc. at the 27"'s native resolution? What are your thoughts on it as a gaming machine. It seems like the 27" will obsolete itself quicker than a i5/i7 21 inch (if one ever comes out) due to the screen resolution size.
I tried ordering a MacBook pro 13'' with my native keyboard to the UK from my home country, this proved to be impossible through apple so I would like to replace my keyboard to my native tongue (swedish) to correspond with the language settings I have set. Is it possible or am I better off buying keyboard stickers?

Native support for Apple's new multi-touch Magic Mouse will require the unreleased Mac OS X 10.6.2 or later, the new hardware's user manual states. Apple's new mouse works with both hardware and software to sense finger position, gestures with fingers, momentum of movements, and more. According to the Magic Mouse manual, the hardware will require Mac OS X 10.6.2 or later. Those on Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later can install the Wireless Mouse Software update 1.0 to obtain the same features. The new Magic Mouse, when purchased separately, has a wait time of 5 to 7 business days. That would imply that the release of Mac OS X 10.6.2, the latest build of Snow Leopard, could be released very soon. Over the past few weeks, three betas of Mac OS X 10.6.2 have been sent to developers. The most recent build addressed a glitch that sometimes deleted user data when logging in and out of a guest account.
The latest build also fixed a number of GraphicsDrivers issues, including a problem where 1080p content played with QuickTime Player X could stutter. That could prove important for owners of the new iMac models, which have 16:9 aspect ratio displays. The new 21.5-inch iMac has a 1920-by-1080 native 1080p display, while the 27-inch iMac exceeds that with a 2560-by-1440 pixel LED-backlit screen. The Magic Mouse manual explains how to understand the hardware's indicator light, pairing of the bluetooth device with a new Mac, replacing the batteries, cleaning, and use of the mouse.
I'm a hardcore gamer that is a stickler for quality, and CRT is still the gold standard when it comes to a perfect image (not to mention the ability to run many resolutions without any quality degradation), but LCDs have come a long way. I'm likely making the switch to Mac (using Boot Camp for the few PC games I play, I mostly play consoles).
The iMac is the best fit for me but I'm concerned, when new games come out that exceed your system's specs you generally turn down the resolution to procure a quality image with a decent frame rate. 1920x1200 is a very high resolution with a lot of pixels, how much worse does the image get when turning the resolution down? Since it won't be at its native resolution I've heard that lowers image quality, but I have no personal experience since I've never used an LCD.
I use Yahoo mail (have been for about 8-9 years). I now read my mail through the web, download it to Mail on my iMac, iPhone and now iPad. I like using the native Mail applications on each device rather than going to the web, but I use the webpage when I'm at work. When I want to delete mail that I don't want. I do like leaving it on the server so I can check old e-mails from any location. Is there a way to manage all of this so I don't have to delete about 20-30 unneeded mail messages from 4 different places? It becomes pretty annoying seeing that same message that I deleted twice before show up on another device (along with 100 others) if I don't check a device for a few days.

Is there a native HTML web page editor in SNow Leopard?
I just moved from a PC to a MAC and would like to work on my web site pages.
I am sure many of you heard that Snow Leopard was supposed to have native read/write for NTFS partitions. Apple supported NTFS R/W in older SL builds but I guess decided to not to go with it for some reason, however support is still present. For this, you need to modify your /etc/fstab file to mount NTFS partitions for read and write.
First, uninstall NTFS-3G/Paragon if installed.
Open Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
Type "diskutil info /Volumes/volume_name" and copy the Volume UUID (bunch of numbers).
Backup /etc/fstab if you have it, shouldn't be there in a default install.
Type "sudo nano /etc/fstab".......................
