OS X :: Using External Display With Native Resolution
May 18, 2009I have a 24" external display and since 10.5.7 I cannot use it with the native resolution (1920x1200), the maximum I can pick is 1920x1080.

View 2 RepliesHere is what I am working with.
White MacBook (Late 2007)
Sylvania 22" LCD TV (1366X768 resolution)
Mini-DVI to HDMI
SwitchResX
So the problem is that the native resolution of the TV isn't a normal one. Called Apple. No help. Called Sylvania. Told me to call Apple. I've tried using SwitchResX to set the resolution to 1366X768 and have tried variations found on other websites (1368, 1360) but every time I restart it reverts back to 1080i. While 1080i works, the problem is that it is very hard on my eyes, and the text is hard to read, something I am assuming will hopefully be fixed when I get it to work at the native resolution.
Will a MacBook Pro Retina 15” (mid 2014) support the native resolution of 3840x2160 at 60Hz over a Display Port connection?
Info:
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
I have a Samsung SB970 S27B970D 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor with native resolution of 2560x1440. When I connect it to my 2012 13" MacBook Pro via mini display port to DVI, I am unable to get anything better than 1080p.
Here's what System Information shows for my displays. Intel HD Graphics 4000: Chipset Model: Intel HD Graphics 4000 Type: GPU Bus: Built-In VRAM (Total): 768 MB Vendor: Intel (0x8086) Device ID: 0x0166 Revision ID: 0x0009 Displays:Color LCD: Display Type: LCD Resolution: 2560 X 1600 Retina: Yes Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Mirror: On Mirror Status: Hardware Mirror Online: Yes Built-In: Yes Connection Type: DisplayPortS27B970: Resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Display Serial Number: H3HCA00500 Main Display: Yes Mirror: On Mirror Status: Master Mirror Online: Yes Rotation: Supported Television: Yes
As you can see, 2560 should be supported.
Also note that we have two different MBPs and two different Samsung monitors (same model, ordered at different times) that do the same thing.
Here are my hardware specs:
Mac Pro 1,1
NVidia 7300GT (I need a new video card, anyone want to sell me one? [=)
2 x Samsung Synmaster 2494SW (native resolution 1920x1080)
Update:
I booted into windows 7 and I am now able to get both native resolutions.
Though, I am still unable to get both native resolutions (using DVI to DVIs) inside OS X for some reason. In OS X my second monitor is displayed as "VGA Display" and it completely black.
I am not sure why it works in bootcamp using Windows 7, but not in Snow Leopard. I am guessing this is a problem with the OS X configuration.
I am connecting my Macbook on my HD TV but the osx does not detect the appropriate native resolution. MY Samsung TV has a native resolution of 1365x768 but the osx only detects and offers 1280 or 1920 (they both look really bad on my TV). I used a mini-DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI cable. I also tried, without success, to create specific display settings using SwitchResX and DisplayConfigX. (10.5.2) I know that there is not a big difference between 1280 and 1365 but still, it's very annoying espacially that I my old PC with XP detected the right resolution as soon as connected it...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Hyundai W240D 24" LCD monitor and it works perfectly in Windows Vista SP2 64 bit running under Boot Camp but when I restart the computer to use Mac OS X it only shows 1920 x 1080 as the maximum resolution rather than 1920 x 1200. I have zapped the PRAM, repaired disk permissions and run fsck -f in single user mode and still the problem persists. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI read this in a post elsewhere and am looking for a new 24 inch + monitor on a budget. I could ideally use the monitor for music work on my mac, my xbox and snes and for watching tv. "If I may offer one bit of advice about LCD monitors is that they only run optimally in their native resolution. You will need to get a large enough monitor to support this resolution for comfortable viewing or you can end up with tiny desktop icons. Reducing the resolution will likely degrade image quality." What does this mean given I have the unibody macbook pro 2.8 released around christmas 2008 with the best the better graphics card (whichever one that was).
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhich will perform better on wow or any game, an imac 20inch or 24inch with the same spec of 2.66ghz 9400m 4gb memory?
They're both are almost identical but the native resolutions are different.I'm comparing a 20inch imac resolution 1680by1050 to a 24inch 1920by1200.
So I'm guessing the 9400m will do better on a 20inch imac right?
Since the 9400m is not all that powerful so I'm guessing it can't do well on the 1920by1200 when gaming ?
I was waiting to buy a new Macbook Pro but as soon as they were released today I said "meh" and decided maybe I should buy a brand new iMac and keep my Early 08 MBP. I want to get a new Mac in preparation for the upcoming launch of Steam on OS X and just because mine is long in the tooth for Windows gaming.
Anyways... I just had a thought and was wondering if any owners could clear it up. The resolution on the 27 i7 Quad Core seems ENORMOUS for a middle-grade ATI GPU. Are you able to game on high settings for semi-modern games like L4D2, TF2, etc. at the 27"'s native resolution? What are your thoughts on it as a gaming machine. It seems like the 27" will obsolete itself quicker than a i5/i7 21 inch (if one ever comes out) due to the screen resolution size.
I'm a hardcore gamer that is a stickler for quality, and CRT is still the gold standard when it comes to a perfect image (not to mention the ability to run many resolutions without any quality degradation), but LCDs have come a long way. I'm likely making the switch to Mac (using Boot Camp for the few PC games I play, I mostly play consoles).
The iMac is the best fit for me but I'm concerned, when new games come out that exceed your system's specs you generally turn down the resolution to procure a quality image with a decent frame rate. 1920x1200 is a very high resolution with a lot of pixels, how much worse does the image get when turning the resolution down? Since it won't be at its native resolution I've heard that lowers image quality, but I have no personal experience since I've never used an LCD.
I have an 28 inch Dell LCD screen that has a native resolution of 1920x1200. Does the MBA support that resolution through the Mini DisplayPort? The specs on the Apple website list the following:
"Supported resolutions: 1280 by 800 (native), 1152 by 720, 1024 by 640, and 800 by 500 pixels at 16:10 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio; 720 by 480 pixels at 3:2 aspect ratio". But I read that the MBA can also do higher res.
I'm in the market for a new external display. I believe I have 3 options with the Thunderbolt(not mini-display)port on my Mac.Using my mini-displayport to VGA adapterUsing my mini-displayport to HDMI adapterUsing just a thunderbolt cable.I believe that there are Thunderbolt displays on the market (AOC has a 21:9 one I believe).
What is the maximum resolution for an external display for my MacBook Pro? Does my mac support 4K? Does it support 21:9? Specifications of my MacBook:
-MacBookPro9,2
-OSX 10.9 Yosemite
-13" mid 2012 not retina
-250GB SSD
-16GB RAM
-Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB

I have a Macbook Pro I bought new in June 2008 (Not Uni-body). It's a 15 inch with the standard options. I want to make a desktop setup on a budget and I'm wondering if my MBP will fill up this display at the complete resolution (1920 x 1080) and if it will function completely with the peripherals on the monitor. [URL]. Here is the display I'm looking at. Seems like a good deal, but I haven't done a lot of shopping around. I don't do graphic design and as I said, I'm on a budget, so the Apple displays are out of the question.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 22" display (the x223w) that I have been using with my old powermac g4 for a few years and its been great. I recently got an Aluminum macbook and wanted to use the display with it at my desk. I got a cheap mini display-port to DVI adaptor from amazon and when I plug it in, the display looks a bit fuzzy! It is set to the same resolution as when it was hooked up to the powermac, but everything looks a bit bigger (doesn't this mean the resolution is lower?) and the text especially looks a little fuzzy. Is it the cheap adaptor? I have it set to 1680X1050 on both computers. I feel like I just want to adjust the sharpness, but the display doesn't have that option. Also, it seems weird since it looks fine with the powermac.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have my MacBook hooked up to an external monitor of 1920 x 1080 resolution. I don't use the MacBook screen at all. Every time I turn on my MacBook it displays on the external monitor as it should, but at the MacBook's 1280 x 800 resolution, which obviously looks nasty and stretched on the big monitor. I fix this by simply putting the Mac to sleep and pressing a key on my keyboard to wake it up again; and it loads in the proper resolution. Is there a way to make it display 1920 x 1080 on boot up without having to sleep and wake every single time? Keeping my MacBook in sleep mode when not in use isn't an option.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" imac and have been using an apple led cinema display with it. I have had no problems with the display until today. Yesterday I installed windows 7 via bootcamp and had some trouble with the second display being detected but after downloading all of the bootcamp updates it worked fine. Today I restart my computer back into OSX and the display does not work. I tried resetting the PRam or whatever but that didnt do anything. When I go to system preferences > display there is no longer an option to detect display and there are no longer options to change the screen resolution.
I spoke with an apple tech who has me installing an update but I dont think she really knew what was going on and I doubt this will work. When I reboot back into the windows partition the display works during start up and I see the windows logo. So I dont think its a hardware issue (also the display still works fine with my macbook pro). But as soon as startup finishes I get a black screen. Under the control panel windows still recognizes that there is a 2nd display attached and you can still drag items over to the other screen, I just cant see anything. All black.
I have a 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (24" early 2009) iMac running OS 10.7.3 (Lion) to which I have connected an Apple Cinema Display as an external monitor using a Mini Display-to-DVI adapter. The iMac is set to 1920 x 1200 resolution and the Cinema Display is at 1680 x 1050, and everything looks great until I turn on mirroring. When I do this, the iMac screen loses its nice crisp screen resolution, but the Cinema Display still looks fine. Strangely, the pull down menu for displays in the menu bar still claims that the iMac is at 1920 x 1200 and the Cinema Display is at 1680 x 1050, but I don't think this is the case. Is there any way to keep the iMac at the higher resolution while mirroring?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to write an AppleScript to change the resolution of my external display from 1920x1080 to 800x600 and back to 1920x1080 (it has a few issues and this fixes them, but I'm tired of going into System Preferences to do this all the time). I can get the script to open up System Preferences and option-click the scaled button (so all of the different resolutions come up), but I can't get it to select anything inside of the box where all of the different resolutions are (I can't find what I'm supposed to refer to it as anywhere and if I find something it doesn't work). Here's the code I have right now:

I have a 15" Mid 2012 MacBook Pro (non-Retna) running OS 10.9.3.
I've just bought a MBP 15" and am wondering if I can connect a 24 inch monitor too make it a extended display. Can someone make a recommendation on what monitor (24 inch) display to buy? And Which connector to get so I get full resolution on the external display?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased the mini display port to DVI adapter and a Belkin DVI to HDMI cable, to plug into my MacBook & Samsung SyncMaster 2032MW monitor. However when I connect this all up the display resolution is appalling, blurry and doesnt fit the screen. I have tried all the available resolutions turned mirror-mode on & off and its still shockingly bad! Also tried this on my LG TV and still the same. I have a Dell laptop which I connect via HDMI and the resolution is amazing. I thought the MacBook would output the same?

I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
I own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've connected two LG 22 wide displays on my Mac Pro using both dvi and vga connections, because I have a vga splitter to split the image on the second display to three additional displays. The problem is that the recommended resolution for the display is 1680*1050 (which the primary display has ) but I don't have that option on the list of suitable resolutions for the second monitor. I'm totally new on Mac and probably asking an easy question, but I'm out of options now. How do I get the right resolution on the second display?

EDIT: Apparently, the color profile I was using is also missing from System Preferences. (Color LCD)
I have a mac pro 2x2.66 intel I'm running os x 10.4.11 (i know i'm going to wipe and install soon) I have a 27" apple led connected with the atlong dp400 first, the issue doesn't seem to be hardware related and is user specific.
I have two user accounts. I have been using the monitor and converter for a few months now and it's fine.
A couple of days ago, i logged into user1 (screen res is set to 2560) then I logged into user2 (the res was set to 1920) and user2 was fine as usual. I decided to change the resolution to 2560 and the screen flashed but instead of taking me back to the desktop, it logged me out and when i tried to log back in, it hangs while loading the finder. actually, it logs me out once and then the second time, just hangs. it opens a few finder windows that I had open but doesn't load any desktop icons and then, just hangs.
I can log into my user1 account and even another that I made for guests but never use... I just can't log into user2 now. I have been googling and couldn't find the exact problem but i tried some solutions to things that sound similar. Because it seems to be user specific... By logging in with Terminal, i was able to move some preferences out of the users preferences folder and try to restart. plists like; [URL]
but it hasn't worked... I'm hoping I'll be able to get into this account, as i have some info I need to export before i wipe this machine and reinstall. and getting access would be the least troublesome way...
So I tried to set up bootcamp on my 10.5.6 17" iMac. the windows installation failed because of a bad disc so I restored my computer using my OS X disc and time machine. Now my display in OS X is being forced to 1024x768 and I cannot change it to anything else. It looks terrible and there are some artifacts... Any idea what the heck happened?
