New-out-of-the-box computer. I've tried creating new network connections -- and other configuration - but no internet pages open. The screen message says "You are not connected to the Internet."

I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro, and today I've been unable to connect to the internet via ethernet or wi-fi, unless I'm in safe mode. Then everything seems to work as it should, which makes me believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware problem. I've tried making a new account with administrator priveleges, but that doesn't solve my issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can connect to the internet under my normal user account, rather than in safe mode? I should note that I won't be able to get my hands on my repair CD or perform a clean install of OSX because that stuff is at home, and I'm in college. Also, I'm at a university and don't have a router. I just use the campus-wide wi-fi. Finally, my roommate has no problem accessing the internet in our room via ethernet or wi-fi, but I do. View 5 Replies View RelatedNew to a Mac and I just received my new MBP Retina two days ago. I am having a strange issue where right after i turn on the computer it will connect and drop my wifi connection over and over again. If i turn wifi off and back on again it fixes the issue.
I have the latest updates for the MBP so not sure if this is a hardware issue or a software bug. My router is also brand new from Linksys and is working flawlessly once i do the above steps.

Whenever trying to connect to a WPA2 Enterprise WiFi network, I only get an IP address when it is the first time. (Authentication in itself works fine, it is getting an IP address that is the problem.) What I mean is the following:
1. I start up the computer
2. I connect to the network just fine
3. Suppose now I turn Airport off
4. Then I turn Airport on again
5. Now it doesn't work anymore! I still get authenticated (PEAP) fine, but I now get a "self-assigned IP address" and can no longer connect to the Internet.
6. When I restart, the same happens, i.e., "go back to step 1"
It seems as if the computer keeps a wrong cache of something, which is only cleared after restart?
It is not a big deal, would have been worse if I couldn't connect at all, but still quite annoying that I have to restart every time.

I have no trouble using WiFi at home. But when I connect my new MacBook Pro to WiFi networks at cafes, airports, and hotels, I can connect and a page or two will load without a problem. But a minute or two later, the WiFi signal appears to be fine but no pages will load and e-mail messages can't be sent or received.
If I turn WiFi off and reconnect to the same network, I can load another page or two and then it quits working. I don't have this problem when connecting to the same networks on my iPhone, so I'm assuming there's a problem with my computer or its settings.

This problem never happens with my MBP - and it is running a CCC Clone of the same 10.7.x system. But whenever I restart my iMac 20.5" it never automatically connects at startup. I always have to touch the wifi symbol in the menu. After that I don't need to select my home network - it will then find it and connect. But until I do that it doesn't connect. This has happened ever since I've gotten this iMac. Also annoying is that the sound output upon startup always defaults to my Logitech headset regardless of how I left it set in Sound settings.

I've had my Mac for 3 years and never had a problem with Airport Express. If I did, I would usually turn it off and then on again and it solved the problem. The last two weeks I've been using a wi-fi hotspot near my home until I get a proper internet connection at home. Suddenly, my internet stopped working. The airport recognzies the link and still connects but the internet page says i'm not connected to the internet. I've tried using diagnostics and it says it can't fix my problem. In diagnostics, the first 3-4 lights turn on, but the last two are either yellow or red. I've changed the time to make sure it was correct, I've re-started the computer several times and it still doesn't work. I don't know what it is that is not working. The airport recognizes the signal, yet I get no internet connection. And I haven't downloaded anything recently.

However, my computer is not loading webpages, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. It just all of a sudden stops and the blue bar won't go any further. I tried running the safari under the guest account and it worked fine.

I got a very weird problem. When I connect my computer (Macbook, Mac OS X Leopard) via cable to the router all my applications work with no problem. I can browse the internet, visit the itunes store, receive mail, get updates on my dashboard.
But when I am connected to the internet via wifi (on the same router) I can still browse the internet while all other apps cannot connect to the internet. Itunes says it cannot connect, mail says it cannot retrieve any mail etc.
I have tried on a different router at a friends house. Same thing. Everything works via cable but wirelessly only the browser works and nothing else.
MBP dropped connection and now all I get is an exclamation point where it used to show full bars. This happened right during a time I was online using Chrome! I tried restarting the MBP, resetting the router (or whatever that is called), removing and addine AirPort under System Prefs but nothing works. I'm using the iPad 2 to access the Internet and write this, so I know it works. My iPhone also connects just fine. Just the MBP that suddenly dropped and cannot connect.

Recently got the new Mac pro and the internet connects briefly via (wire less) and then disconnects after 30 secs. I notice the DNS server switches numbers. After this happens I no longer have internet connection.
Connecting via ethernet is no good either. It doesn't connect at all. I did do a migration from another system. I am wondering whether the setting were saved from my previous system and are getting corrupted with the new system.

I am haveing and issue conencting. The probelm is when an ethernet connection is working Wifi is not, when Wifi is working ethernet is not. The issue is the netowrk control panel says Im always connected through wifi and ethernet 100% of the time but Safari or Firefox will not load a web page. It is strange because in Terminal I can ping any website. I'v restarted the router, the computer, I have even reloaded the OSX Lion. I have al the most up to date definitions. From a little bit of reasearch I see this is a ongoing issue and it is very frustrating. It is not a netowrk issue all my other devices work perfect when connected to wifi. 3 windows machines ipad iphone etc. Is the network card bad on the late 2011 macbooks?

I am using a Mac Mini with a Realtek USB wireless dongle to connect to the internet. The software and drivers appear connected perfectly and i see the wireless utility and I can access my wireless network, which says signal strength 100%. I connect to it and it accepts the wireless key. Says connected. Then after a few seconds the connection is lost and it says 'Disconnected'. A few seconds later it connects then disconnects and this continues indefinitely but Safari never allows me to access any webpages.

I recently around 3-4 weeks ago update my Mac Book Pro to the new Yosemite software and everything was going fine until I got onto my internet! i was connected to my home wifi and everything was fine! Click into something and said I wasn't connected..! I looked up to see the wifi had disconnected! So i thought it was just a fault in my wifi modem, i manually clicked my wifi again it connected. It wasn't until after the 6th time it happened that i realised it wasn't my network and that it was my laptop! now everytime im watching a movie online or youtube its get disconnected and I have to continuously manually connect to my network! This happens every 2-3 minutes and had been frequent since I have updated! It's super annoying as it interfers with my regular web surfing and have looked for and tried so many things to fix it and nothing seems to work!

Macbook Pro (Mid-2012) Which I purchased 4 months ago.
It keeps dropping the signal about every 5 minutes, only on my home network. It's only this device too, since my phone and all of my roomates' devices are unphased. (streaming videos like it's no big deal)
This started happening after we lost connectivity with the snow a few days ago here in Seattle. I have tried all sort of troubleshooting, including the DNS thingy and restarting the router.

After upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1, my MacBook Pro has been randomly disconnecting from the WiFi access point. Nothing has changed settings-wise, and none of the other devices have the same issue. Here's my log when it disconnects:

My problem is at home the wifi works great but at work or on a public network it disconnects every minute. Only happened since upgrade to Yosemite. I'm aware lots of people are having issues with WIFI since upgrading to Yosemite.

I've been having Wi-Fi issues with Yosemite (both 10.10 and 10.10.1), but only on my home network. All other wi-fi connections have been strong/reliable. I also ran the Yosemite beta from July (I think) until the full release, but did not have any similar issues with wi-fi.

I have already tried 'forgetting the network' and Deleting the system config stuff. I still get this random drop. My computer is unreliable. Dropping during an online exam is bs because it screws everything up.
I have never experienced Wifi drops in my life and I am starting to get annoyed with this.
My keyboard and mouse is using bluetooth... Does that have something to do with it? Should I just install and use Windows instead?

What I found was that there were 3 different WI-FI networks on my iMac and I would like to know just what they belong to? One is called "Orangecat", another is "wildchild" and the last one is also "wildchild-guest". What these accounts are associated with and if they are part of the internal configuration of my iMac?

this evening, a neighbor's xfinity wireless network kept flashing what appeared to be web pages on my MBPro screen. They weren't attached to any browser I was running.
I'd close these pages (ads to join xfinity) but they'd keep coming back. Then I noticed that I'd been booted from my own wireless network, and xfinity was the active network!
It feels predatory, this behavior. How can I set up our Macs to prevent this ever happening again? When I join our wifi in our home, I don't want any other signal to elbow in, so to speak.
Or, if there's some kind of interruption in our wifi signal, I don't want some other network elbowing in.
However it happened, how can I set it up such that, if I didn't authorize a wifi network, it will be prevented from joining me to it?

I think there is an icon error in OS X Yosemite. The third icon above is slightly larger than all the other icons, distorting the WiFi signal when searching for a WiFi network.

The bluetooth badly interferes with the wifi - with bluetooth on, wifi download is around 1mbps; without bluetooth it instantly jumps to 10+mbps. Problem is - I need to work on an external monitor with the bluetooth keyboard and trackpad.
Have tried altering wifi channels etc.
