OS X Yosemite :: Clearing Duplicate Computers In Shared Finder Sidebar

Dec 8, 2014

In the Finder sidebar under shared computers, we seem to be getting duplicates.  Admin Mac (1), Admin Mac (2) (when it's the same computer).  How do I clear out this list so that we don't have 13 Admin Mac's on our list?

I have gone through and turned off sharing preferences restarted computers and turned Sharing preferences back on.  I now see the correct computer but can't get rid of the duplicates now.

Info:
MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), all computers on network

OS X :: Finding Shared Computers In Sidebar - Not Shown

May 21, 2009

I saw all the other threads asking about how to get rid of misc. computers in the shared section in the sidebar. I'm wondering why a computer won't show up and am asking for other ideas since I've exhausted my own. I'm working with a Mac Pro, a Macbook and a Mac mini. The Mac Pro can see everything else, and the Mac Mini can see eveything else, but the Macbook does not see the Mac Pro (even though it does see the Mac mini). I need the Mac Pro to show up on the Macbook.

Here's what I've done:
updated all 3 to 10.5.7.
Repaired permissions.
Turned off firewalls.
Renamed the Macbook (as they were both called "xxxxxx's Computer").
File sharing is on, on all computers.
Tried "connect to server" to see if it would reinitialize a search for new shared computers.

OS X :: How Do I Remove A Shared Device From The Finder Sidebar

Mar 6, 2009

I've googled and search here, and I just can't find the answer to this.

I renamed one of my computers at home. Now both instances of it show up in the Shared section of the finder sidebar and I can't remove the old one. When I do a Get Info, it shows as a PC Server, but I can't actually access anything on it. Is there any way to keep this from showing up?

OS X :: No List Of Shared Computers In Finder

Jan 13, 2009

I am having problem with my Mac Air. For some reason when I go to Finder, there is no list of Shared computers. However, when I open Finder on my MacBook Pro it shows all shared computers in the area. From my MacBook Pro I can see the shared Mac Air, but nothing in shared of Mac Air. All shared setting on on MacBook Pro. Plus there more shared computers on the network. I think something wrong with Mac Air settings.

MacBook Pro :: Finder Closes When Try To Access Shared Computers

Jun 6, 2014

I'm running Mavericks on my late 2013 MacBook Pro. When I try to access a shared computer on my network, the Finder window closes as soon as I click on the computer I want to access. File sharing is turned on on the target computers, both iMacs, one is running Mavericks and the other is running Mountain Lion. The iMacs can access the MacBook Pro and each other without a problem. Firewall is not on on the iMac. Is there a setting I am missing

OS X Yosemite :: Keep Folder From Network As Favorite In Finder Sidebar

Dec 8, 2014

Is it possible to keep a folder from a network as a favorite in the Finder Sidebar, even after the networked computer has been restarted? In the course of the week, the folders I place in my favorites remain (we keep our computers on all week), but we shut down on the weekends, so come Monday morning, all of the networked folders are absent from the sidebar. I'm attempting a work-around by creating folders in my user/Home that then have aliases of the respective folders, then placing that in the sidebar, but I'd love to avoid this work-around.

I'm on a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac, but the computer I'm trying to remain linked/favorited to is a 2.8 GHz Quad Core tower (both running Yosemite).

My MBP and MacBook don't show up on my "SHARED" sidebar on my Mac Pro, which is running 10.5.8. But the Pro shows up on both laptops, and I can connect to it from both. The Pro shows a PC in the house when it's on, so it's working for that. But I can't get my Macs from it.

I just noticed that on the left side of each folder, there is a section titled "Shared" and it is showing what looks like the computer names of two PC laptops from someone I know. I have never actually done file sharing with these computers, so I'm not sure why they are displaying here? Why do these display here? I come in contact with lots of people all day long and I do not see their computers in this list.

OS X Yosemite :: Sidebar Icons Displaying Incorrectly

I recently used LiteIcon to change how my folder icons look (because the oversaturated blue folders in Yosemite are ugly, in my opinion) and in the process, it messed up my sidebar icons.I did this one time before I updated LiteIcon and it did the exact same thing but I thought they would've fixed this since the update.

one of the most convenient things for me as a photoshopper about Snow Leopard was to be able to have sort cuts in the finder side bar under "Places" so i could just drag the image i wanted to open to the left onto the App icon and it would open it from there.  NOW I have drag it to the dock to open or open the dropdown menu... both slower.  I am not happy about this.... My finder window's sidebar appears to be locked and I cannot resize it.  I've read that when putting my mouse in the line between the sidebar and the files area to the right it should change to a bar cursor that I can then use to resize the sidebar.  But the cursor never changes when I do this so I cannot resize the sidebar.  Any suggestions to re-enable this?
