I made a change to my spam setting (move spam to spam folder) and since then my mail quits everytime I start it up. I'm even able to get to the preference for it but it just quits.
The resolutions offered here are complicated.
Is there a way to just RESET mail? Or even re-install the OS?
Foolishly, i excluded my ~/music folder from my Time Machine backup, and when i restored following a recent system drive meltdown, i lost all of my iTunes library files - the .itl, the Previous iTunes Libraries, the .xml, everything. However, my media was on a different drive, which is still spinning. Additionally, i had my library synched to my iPhone, and i had Matched what iTunes could Match to the cloud. So i have all of my media locally, i have most of my media in the cloud and or on my phone, and i have most of my playlists in the cloud or on the phone. What is the best way for me to put my data back into iTunes and return to normalcy? In that i have an empty library right now, i have turned synching off on my phone. What i most want to get back is playlists. What i secondly want to get back are playcounts and ratings.

Wondering if I could use a projector and display what is running on "Desktop 1" to an audience while I take notes using an application running on "Desktop 2" without disturbing the audience with my note-taking.

I have a G4, dual 450, 1G Ram running 10.4.11. Recently after downloading and opening an .rar file, a file named .DS_Store appeared on the desktop. I have since deleted the .rar file, but cannot delete the .DS file. It is appearing now in all of my programs, including my camera when I plug it in. I've tried ClamXav, MacScan, and DnsChangerRemovaltool, also What'sKeepingMe, but nothing can remove it. Info says it's a document, 16 KB, and it reads as date created the last time I turned the machine on. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new to the Mac. I have a Macbook Pro 2.2GHz. Today, a file keeps popping up on my desktop. It is named .DS_Store. The icon looks like a text document. I won't open it cuz I'm afraid of what it is, lol (Windows still clogging my brain). Anyway, I can drag it to the trash and delete the trash, but after a bit, it reappears.
Any idea how to get rid of it?
I have just bought the new Mac Mini,but when the screen comes up it has a football icon in the middle of the screen below that it says type in password (To get to your Desktop}
I hadn`t a clue what the password was so Looked in my book at all the passwords.
I tried them one by one then I struck lucky I typed in this password which I new that it wouldn`t work but to my surprise it worked.
how I can to the desktop without these passwords. In system preferences you can change it,but it says then you will have to remember two passwords.

It's an email address. I can't select it or delete it. Changing the desktop picture doesn't work. It doesn't cause any problems, but it's annoying.

My desktop icons disappeared (on Yosemite). I switched "View/Sort By" to "Kind" away from "Snap to Grid" and they show back up, but then if I move them back to "Snap to Grid" or "None" they disappear again.

I've only got 21 GB left on my iMac out of 639 GB or something (I save a LOT of videos and audios). My computer is running soooooo slow so I'm thinking that it's just got too much in there and too close to the max capacity to run faster. Am I right? Do I need to delete things or purge or what to free up storage?
I've already deleted a ton of files but I think they are saved in more than one place which means duplicate files all over the place I think? Not sure.
But I can't always save something to the folder I want to save it in, it goes in my downloads folder where then I have to move it to the appropriate folder to save in an organized manner. I've deleted most of my downloads folder and many videos but I'd rather save them somewhere instead and not just rely on YouTube to host and save them.
I have an online data backup system too, Carbonite, but I'm not sure I can save other things there that then are not still on my computer?
I could save things on a hard drive but will that really solve my sloooow computer running issues?
Not sure what to do?

Since I installed Yosemite, I cannot right click on the desktop to make a folder, I cannot drag any files or folders or anything to it or use it at all. It's nothing but a slate and useless. I figured it was a bad install so I reinstalled it today and got the same behavior. I wish I could revert to Mavericks and I tried with time machine but it wouldn't let me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy office needs to be able to move email folders out of Outlook 2011 and into our documents to free up space.
We do however need to ensure that the emails are kept in date order when moved out of Outlook - is this possible?
So far, every time I've moved emails into a desktop folder the date created automatically changes to the date that I've moved the emails. Is there a way to retain the original date, aside from opening each email to check the date?

I have a MacBook Pro using latest OS and had been having trouble with my wallpaper changing back to default settings. After reading this support thread: URL...., I followed the instructions to install the following file in this
directory: Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ The file called autodiskmount.plist had the following content (all following the directions of the thread above): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" URL....
After trying to restart the laptop, it has now been stuck at the grey screen with the apple logo and the rotating circle. I have tried using disk utility and repairing the start up disk. Doing a safe reboot does not work.

I got this forever looping combination of folders in my Trash, and now it won't let me empty the trash. It's kind of hard to explain, but if I open the trash, there is a folder in there called "RaceImages 11.36.24 AM [7/3]". If I drill into that folder, it goes on forever like this....
"RaceImagesThumbs > Desktop > RaceImages > RaceImagesThumbs" and on and on, repeating for basically ever. I could drill down to eternity and still not be able to delete the trash. I've drilled down through that repeating sequence a hundred times and still not seen an end.
If I attempt to empty the trash, it first says "the operation can't be completed because the item 'ML1_2014' is in use.", but I don't see that file. If I click continue, it says it can't be completed because the item "Desktop" is in use, and from there my repeating folder nightmare starts. Clicked 'Continue' a 100 times and the same sequence of folders as above are "in use".
Tried "Secure Empty" the trash, tried the finder menu "Option > Empty Trash". All to no avail...same error messages.

Recently had a problem after loading yosemite on our 2009 Mac mini, it won't remember passwords or get email, we've started seeing error messages such as " keychain login cannot be found to store". I tried to do a keychain repair and it fails saying "no such file or directory". Deleted the keychain and created a new one and i get the same errors.

My job entails working with well over 100,000 images and up until we upgraded to Yosemite, we had no issues locating a file while typing the name into Finder. Now when this search is performed, the search returns the files alias only. Normally we would be able to open the parent folder, but that option is gone from the list.
