OS X Yosemite :: Cannot Right Click On Desktop To Make Folder
Dec 8, 2014
Since I installed Yosemite, I cannot right click on the desktop to make a folder, I cannot drag any files or folders or anything to it or use it at all. It's nothing but a slate and useless. I figured it was a bad install so I reinstalled it today and got the same behavior. I wish I could revert to Mavericks and I tried with time machine but it wouldn't let me.
I have a MacBook Air and when go to double click a folder on my desktop nothing hsappens.I can select it but double clicking does not open it. This also happens in some of my applications as well.

I can't open a personal folder on my desktop without using my keyboard or right clicking then open. Is there a way I can change settings to just double click top open a folder or file?
My workflow entails repetitive tasks that would be so much easier if I could set Leopard's (Safari's) default double-click functionality to select ALL text within the Google search box instead of having to use a triple-click. Does anyone know how to make this change to Leopard/Safari?
Anyone come across a problem where all the desktop icons disappear? I also cannot right click on my desktop to bring up a contextual menu, my machine appears to be running faultlessly apart from that. I have run Onyx to reset permissions and have checked the disk but cannot seem to find anything wrong.
I've had a number of problems after installing Yosemite. One is that when I click on a drop-down item in the main Finder navigation, the first click of my trackpad seems to "release." I have to click a second time to take action.Â
Other problems after installing Yosemite have included booting only to reach a gray screen with the cursor in the upper left corner ... that's as far as it got. I've also had my screen images become something like a pixel puzzle ... rips, tears, and disintegration. I've done clean installs and reloaded content from a Time Machine backup and that has mostly, but not completely, resolved the problems. These problems, including the need to click twice described above, have occurred on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro.Â

I just bought a used Macbook Pro. How do I make the changes to make it personal. Example the iTunes comes up as the old user and I have to have his password to make changes on the laptop. Also I cant make a right click on the pad. Is that normal?
I have got many photos of a sery and want to rename it all with one click only (instead of clicking through it all in single actions and wasting time).
How can I rename many pictures/photos all together with one click only? -
1) I have OS X Yosemite
2) Aperture
3) Automator App
to use for this purpose, but I do not see through with any of it.

On Yosemite, when I click on a link (say on the New York Times), a new window (for an online seller - normally Jabong, Online casino etc) always appears. The link does work but it is annoying to be dealing with a new window with each click
i've been having a problem with my iMac that i just noticed recently. when i click on the desktop it used to make the finder my active application and would let me right click for the context menu with add folder etc. but i noticed the other day that it no longer does this. i don't know if i've disabled it somehow or if there's some kind of bug/glitch going on.
When I perform a Google search and click on any of the links that show up, Safari will always open that very link in the same window. How to make Safari open each link I click in a new tab?
Once in a while when I tilt my MBP, the hard disk will make a brief click noise. Also, I can trigger the noise by closing the lid, and then tilting the MBP. Is this normal? Is this just part of the built-in accelerometer?
Wondering if I could use a projector and display what is running on "Desktop 1" to an audience while I take notes using an application running on "Desktop 2" without disturbing the audience with my note-taking.Â
This doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to create a thread about it to find out what's going on.
I usually keep my desktop empty and use it to store stuff I'm going to process in the next hour anyway. Sometimes my desktop is absolutely empty, but when I navigate to the following path: UserDesktop, the files do show up.
So I was just using my computer normally when I was suddenly having an issue where I could not click on anything. I was forced to hard restart but it did not help. I am still able to navigate with the trackpad or my mighty mouse (wireless) but clicking with either does nothing.
After some searching I have reset the pram multiple times and have also done command+S at boot and run fsck. Resetting the pram worked once, but only for maybe 5 minutes. During that time I ran a permissions test, it corrected 2-3 things but that is it. I have tried booting from the leopard cd but it spits the cd out.
My Big Disk Extreme (1TB) was working great, until the other day, while on it started making a repetitive "Click" sound. Im assuming this is somehow related to the drive spinning and whatnot, but the problem is it wont mount on the desktop, nor can i find any way to "reset" the hdd. When on, the blue light works just fine, it does not turn Orange or anything. The drive just clicks and wont do anything...
When i click an icon on my desktop it doesnt open i have to click it more then once and sometimes i have to click rapidly fast and more then once for it to open.
None of the applications on my desktop will open. I click on them and nothing happens. I tried to restart, shutdown and power off holding down the power button.

My macbook desktop is frozen, only desktop. Everything else works fine. I logged into my other account on the computer I have, the desktop is fine, I can right click the desktop and it will bring the menu up, however, on the side that I use frequently, I cannot right click on the desktop, NOR can I drag anything to the desktop. All my software is up to date, I tried booting up in safe mode, I also used the force quit and relaunch, restarted computer many times, still nothing. Also weird about this is that itunes deleted itself earlier today, I had to re-download and install it again. The problem is happening since then. Finally, I read somewhere I may need to re-boot my computer with the lion CD; however, I don't have the CD I downloaded from the app store!
I just got a new Mac today and I have a problem. When I click on applications and then for example click on my music folder, it all opens up in a preview and then if i select another folder in my music folder that opens up like a preview as well. Its pretty cool but is there a way for the folder just to open when I click on it like with Leopard?
start up the computer and all is fine it is really cool how you dont see the black screen or anything it is all smooth looking with the setup boxes but when it gets to where you should have the normal desktop this wierd program comes up instead. i cant see the start button or my computer or anything it is like some kind of other program on top of it that i cant quit. i have tried everything but when i click shut down it just shuts down the whole computer not getting me to my desktop.
