Sporadically when I hit the key to lower the display's brightness level, instead just dimming it one step down it jumps all the way to the lowest setting making it completely dark. I have had my MBP for about 8 months and never had this problem until the last couple days. Does this have to do with the most recent OS X update? Anyone else having this issue??
View 2 RepliesI came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

As the title states. I am looking for an external display that matches the display on my black MacBook. I want one with the same gloss finish as my MacBook, this way I can calibrate both screens to look the same. That way when I switch screens it doesn't look different.
Anyone know of a screen that looks identical to the (previous generation) MacBook? I was thinking of getting a Samsung T240 but it has a different finish. How are ASUS screens? Any screens out there that have the same gloss finish?
I have a 2007 santa rose mbp and recently I have been having display issues. Out of nowhere is seems that my display just goes black. You can tell that the screen is still on because of the backlighting; its just the picture that seems to disappear. However, the computer still seems to be working fine. I can remote screen share and use the computer normally as if nothing happened. I have no idea if this is some kind of a hardware or software problem... Can this be an indication of the 8600M GT dying?

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy screen (AOC) goes black about 7 min. after I stop using the keyboard. The Mini light stays on. If I hit Space Bar, my music starts right up. But nothing on the screen. The only way I have been able to reactivate the screen is to shut down - manually - Mini and restart.

I've got an 08 Mac Pro with a 30" ACD hooked up to it as well as a 24" Apple LED display (via a MDP to (DVI?) converter) and I'm having some problems. Basically, sometimes the screens go black. It can be when the computer turns on, that one (never both) doesn't turn on... or, when waking from sleep, or, one just goes black at some point. I ran TechTool Deluxe on the Mac Pro and the GPU passed the test just fine. FYI The converter is USB powered.

Initially started with my MACPRO not waking up from sleep and has to force the shut down with power button. Finally realised it was due to my Epson scanner connected via USB...
The main issues now is with the display, black screen on startup. I can still control the volume and disk eject/close, just no display. Force shut down with power button numerous time but futile. Finally solved it with SMC reset.
it becomes an on and off issues... and continuously I solved it with SMC reset.... sometimes needed 2 or 3 resets to get it to work,and finally for the past few days... SMC reset can't solve it either... no display on startup, and same thing I can control the volume and disk eject/close. Have tried my monitor on other mac and it worked fine.
Now this is strange. if I let the mac cool off totally,after a SMC reset. the display will comes up fine...
well was using my macbook and he display suddenly went black on me. I charged and restarted with no luck I usually get a quick flash and then it continues to start up. now if I look closely the system is working properly becasue i can see my log in screen very faintly in the back ground. Does anyone know what my issue may be?

Do anyone know if it is possible to buy a skin/coverfoil/etc to cover on the alu frame around my MBA display?I have found a lot of pages/webshops that provide skin for the front/back and trackpad, but nothing for the frame around the display.
I was browsing the internet, not doing anything major, put the computer to sleep, came back 10 minutes later... black screen. I messed with it for an hour or so and determined that the video card went bad (I'm guessing. It's a mid 2007 macbook pro with the nvidia geforce 8600m. My secondary monitor remains black as well). In the midst of totally freaking out, I decided to activate the voiceover utility, enable screen sharing (after figuring out a slew of keyboard commands I didn't know about), and logged in from my girlfriends computer.
I immediately closed all the windows and applications that I had inadvertently opened during the blind wtf session, and opened up system profiler to see if it is recognizing a video card. Well, it is! It's listing the video card as a GMA x3100! Is there a secondary card in there? Cause if there is, it's not working either. Or is that just a default they would put in if it doesn't recognize a video card? Doesn't seem likely. Or, because I'm using screen sharing, is it picking up my girlfriends card? It's not, because she's using a GMA 950. Maybe it's splitting the difference?

It first started doing this about a week ago, but after a manual restart or two, it would start up properly with the display working. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 19-inch Envision EN9410e LCD flat panel monitor. Right now I did a mirror display setup. The native resolution of this monitor is 1280 x 1024. When I went to System Preferences to change it to that resolution my LCD monitor shows the Snow Leopard desktop but it's in the middle of two black bars. I had to revert to 1024 x 768 resolution to not have the black bars show. Is there a way I can change it to the native resolution and not have the black bars on the top and bottom show up on the screen?

I have a core i7 MBP with the high res display, and when the display is showing black, a horizontal green line appears on the screen. It is only visible when the screen is showing black or another very very dark color, and the line is not visible with the screen off. It isnt something on the screen, as rubbing it does not affect it at all. I cannot post a screenshot of it, because it does not appear in the screenshot (it does on my screen, because the line is there physically, but on other monitors it is not visible).

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use external display with my Unibody Aluminium Macbook Pro (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 2.26Gh, snow leopard). Cable setting I use is quite complicated as it is: macbook: minidisplay port>hdmi> DVI D : display. Display is LG Flatron W2242T (4:3).So I hooked everything up and macbook detected display without any problem. The problem arises when it comes to resolution. Maximum resolution I can set (and in fact the only except 800xsomething) is 1152x870 and not only it is to low, but also it does not respect 4:3 ratio so it looks quite bad. So bad, that i cant really work on a setup like that. When I try to change resolution to any other, Display goes black. I tried using some apps, but they dont really work.

So I've got my MBP that I've had for about 4 months, the thing is. It just recently started to have screen flickering issues. I'll be sitting doing w/e as usual and all of a sudden the display goes dark, almost black, for a second, then comes back up again. I have yet to find any trend in when this is happening, but it is definitely happening on battery as well as plugged in, but it seems to be getting worse.any one have any idea what this could be, something I can fix on my own, or should I take it in?

For the past few weeks it has been going to a black screen when trying to wake it up from sleep. Either I've put it through too much work lately editing all these photos and its really tired. So, often it wakes up normally and functions fine, well, not really. It is seemingly very slow. It requires a lot of time (more than before) to open up a program or it gives me the "spinning wheel of death" when trying to go to a different page on the internet or open up a folder on my desktop. Amongst other things that require it to think. So It's just a lot slower in general than before.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 6 year old PowerBook G4 12" (Model 6,1) hooked up to a 20" VGA display using the Apple Mini-DVI to VGA adapter that came with the computer. Perfect performance for several years. I now want to hook up my early 2008 Black MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz. (Model 3,1) to the same monitor. The "Mini-DVI" connector on the MacBook computer does not mate with my adapter! It is real close in size and shape, but is obviously a different connector design.
The MacBook manual says the display port is a "Mini-DVI". The older PowerBook manual also says it's display port is a "Mini-DVI." Apple's site implies that the two computers require the same adapter, but that is obviously wrong. Some of the product reviews say that the Apple information is wrong, but no one has posted the correct information (part number). Is there an adapter for the black MacBook to VGA? I've spent all afternoon searching (including here an MacRumors) for the real part number for an adapter. No luck. I have also tried several Apple phone numbers and the chat forum, all with no results. Does anyone know what I should order to adapt the MacBook display port to a VGA cable, and from where?
My 20" Cinema display doesn't light up. It flashes 3 lights: short,long,short, which I believe is the error code associated with having the wrong power supply plugged in. Display has worked fine for the last few years and this is the power supply which came with the display. The periferals (keyboard/wacom) are getting power and the display doesn't work regardless of if they are plugged in or not. The display was working fine, then the powerstrip it was plugged into was switched off accidentaly. Now it no longer functions. I don't know if the power cord is dead or the brick, but some power must be getting through.

My mac is fully up to date and I can't seem to work out why this keeps happening?
